To all that came onto my blog - just wish to express my extreme joy at your very enthusiastic responses.

I am still illiterate towards this medium and beg to be excused for any errors or expectations from me. But as time goes by and the systems fall into place, there shall hopefully be a more refined presentation.

What is alarming to me is the number of people that have come on and the logistics of replying to them individually. I will find that perhaps a little insurmountable for the moment. But specific queries and reactions will have to be generalized on a single page. A page somewhat like this which shall attempt to incorporate all the questions and my limited answers.

Some bloggers show interest in my forthcoming films, some on my choices and their extreme reactions to why i did what i did. ‘Bhoothnath’ comes on the 9th of May. A benevolent ghost, very protective of the house he inhabits because of a history of a wrong doing against him, thereby him preventing anyone to come and live there. Until a family with a little boy finds residence in it and how at first he tries to scare them away, but later develops a kind relationship with the little boy, since he is just not prepared to believe he is a ghost but an angel. The child also reminds him of his own grandson, which is part of the back story. Fun and games in the beginning and then an emotional middle and ending with the ghost leaving behind a few values for the little fellow to follow.

There are some messages which harbor on politics, an area i find myself inadequate in, but since this is a platform that is open to and invites reactions, in all fairness i must not obliterate them, even though they are harsh in nature. The subject of the ‘outsiders’ in Mumbai and the comments on recent events, I have substantially answered these in some of my recent interviews and they are there for all to see and read. I do not find any reason to elaborate on them, irrespective of the individuals involved and my own actions taken. That my house was attacked and bottles thrown inside is true. I have video and photographic evidence of it. Police and its high officials have done investigation and reports made. If some feel that this was manipulated they are so wrong. You attribute far too much to my devious acumen. I am afraid i do not possess such attributes. But as i said, this is a free country and everyone has the right to their own speech. If wrong has been done by me, then let the Law of the land prevail. Punish me as it wills. I will not debate it. The questions on my buying land or my farmer status is still sub judis, so i cannot make any comments on that yet. But i shall wait for the judgment to come and whichever way it goes i shall respect the verdict. Jaya walking out of Parliament is also a right of an MP. If there is motive in that, then let the Parliament take action if there is wrong. Amar Singhji is like a family member and his politics or for that matter the politics of Bala Saheb Thakeray or Mr Advani or any other political head, who have friendly and family relations with us, have never been a barrier. They do not interfere in my films, i do not interfere or comment on their politics. Just because Mr Bill Clinton writes to me does not make me a Democrat in the US.

20th April is Abhishek and Aishwary’s 1st wedding anniversary. They are in Miami. He is shooting there for Karan Johar’s ‘Dostana’. On the same day Ram Gopal Varma is having a promo launch for our  film ‘Sarkaar Raj’ the sequel to ‘Sarkaar’ at the JW Marriot Hotel ,Juhu,Mumbai. And i think for the first time in film press history here, we shall be getting Abhi-Ash on a video conference during the press meet, so that they can be in Miami but still be a visual interactive part of the function.

I am presently shooting for ‘Aladin’ on a very elaborate set at Mehboob Studios. Doing an action sequence with Sanjay Dutt. I play the genie and Sanju the negative role. Also on the floor is the tentatively titled ‘Shoebite’, which progresses well. I shall inform you of the other projects presently.

IIFA is in Bangkok this year in June, on the 6th7th8th.

The ‘Unforgetable Tour’ is in July August. Lara and Bipasha have opted out for personal reasons. But we now have Akshay Kumar, Preity Zinta, Madhuri Dixit and Shahid on board. They shall perform at specific centers.

And i have just returned after witnessing an incredible show by Shiamak Davar at the NCPA in Mumbai. Oh..what can i say..such a magnificient experience. The singing, the dancing, the colors just so uplifting and joyous. There was an entire spirit of participation from the audience, packed to capacity. But the most moving moment was his emotional tribute to his Mother who came on stage… and…an entire section devoted to physically and mentally challenged children. He dressed them up just like members of his troupe and performed with them and made them an important part of his show. So humane a gesture. And a show with a beautiful message - that if you believe in yourself, nothing is impossible. His show is titled ‘I BELIEVE’

For now this is it. But i shall go through all the messages and make points to respond next.

There is a moderation clause in the blog and i notice that some readers have expressed apprehension. The site has certain conditions it needs to adhere to, in order to respect and maintain the ethics of this medium. I shall of course try and access all messages and attempt to give it its required reaction.

Good night and may you remain always with the Almighty’s blessings..

Amitabh Bachchan

    Dear Sir,
I never in my dreams would have imagined writing to you. For me you are the biggest biggest bigeesstttttt ever superstar and I am proud to be your compatriot. I am currently in US. Its overwhelming when I think about the massive hold you have on the common people. I am not of political acumen either, but somehow I feel that the films nowadays are paving way for the crimes. A week after “Aankehin” was released, a bank in a village of maharashtra was looted in similar way. People start smoking and holding the cigars in the style that you guys portray on screen. They dress up like you and they want to be like you. Considering all the above facts, has it ever occurred to you that you (and all film fraternity for that matter) should appeal to the people especially the youth of India to fight corruption and any anti-social elements within the soceity, stop abusing the female gender or whatever you feel is important for the betterment of a nation. I have seen your drives for polio. I believe anti-socialism is a bigger disease and its gropping our soceity fast. I think if we need to pass on the message of peace and respect, it has to be someone of your stature, whom the entire nation “looks upon” in every way.
I also want to thank you for all the entertainment you have provided to us all these years and also tell you that for me you will always be HERO # 1

    Mr. Bachchan Saab…
Hearty welcome to the blogging community! Its a fantastic idea for you to join the bandwagon of masses of writers out there in the world, who share their lives, experiences, emotions, views and much more to the rest out there.

Being your ardent followers, both for the quality of work and for the zeal and dedication that you withhold, its our privilege to read about what you think, how you react, how you foresee and how you analyze. There might not be even a single person who realize the impact of BigB, who would’nt sit back in his/her chair and ask … “Hmm…how does he [BigB] get this done?, I wonder how is he able to do this?” etc.

To hear all such answers, first hand from you is truely an amazing feeling. Sitting here in front of an office computer, working for multinational companies, thousands of miles away (Or maybe not in this today’s flat world). Nevertheless, thank you for providing us with this opportunity !

Good luck, in your personal and professional endeavors. You have entertained me all through out my life, I have always been your admirer, not only yours but I also think Jayaji is extremely talented, Abhishek proved everybody he is an actor of great capacity with YUVA and Guru. I will say I like when you said you are only an actor, the real heroes are the people behind the screens, Yet u take the blame and credit for a project. I haven’t idolized you cause human nature is fallable, I am an admirer of yours. its always nice watching your movies on the screen, I grown up watching your movies, and you are as much part of my growth as a being, as the surrounding environment that I grown up in. What I Find amazing is You are so grounded, and modest, when I read your interview, or see it on TV. It shows that you don’t take responsibility for your achievements. What is it with Phenomenal personalities that they tend to be grounded even when they are so high in the stratosphere. IT is said in Sam Veda, Great people leave example by their actions, Common people copy them. I think Divide and conquer rule still applies in INDIA..when will we think of ourselves as one. You are right, It is giving of help, because one who receives it is of human kind first, then of any caste creed, color and religion. Food will give same joy to a Marathi hunger, as one of gujarati. GOD BLess your family, Thank you for taking your time and reading, if you don’t get a chance it is still alright as you people work most hours of the day. Thanks…

It may be the moderation you mentioned but my message seems not to have come through on your first blog entry .. I’m re-attempting here in case this is due to the thread being closed there:

It is not often an opportunity like this rises. I am truly ecstatic at being able to communicate with you. I’m sure many will agree in my saying you are an inspiration.

Since you have mentioned that we are equals .. ‘common and special’ both. I would like to say what has caught my immediate attention above the rest here.

At the risk of sounding selfish, I noted that as well as being able to connect with your fans, there is also a huge advantage here for me (& others like me) who are watching the industry & the evolution it is under-going, looking for their opportunity to get involved, at whatever capacity.

It seemed very humble & courteous of you, considering we all know that you will have a lot to share with us experience-wise, that you’ve already expressed your willing. The fact that you have mentioned you will respond to these questions that we, the people from the outside have, gives me warmth & I’m truly grateful.

I know you have got tons of compliements so far in your life.
Just want to add another - you are what I think celebrities should be like - bigger than life, yet restrained and relateable.
The movies that you appear in now must give you more artisitic saisfaction than the ealier ‘Angry young man’ ones since you are exploring a broader perspective of characters.

Blogging is definitely a great medium to express ones feelings, and when the person being referred to is Big B himself, The pleasure is all ours. Nice to know that there are people who are making the not so fortunate ones believe in themselves. I personally felt that blogging is a way to let out what we feel about anything, may be arts, nature, viewpoints on different socio-economic -political issues. When I read the existence of this blog in NDTV.com, I was quite enthusiastic, thinking about knowing my idol more closely. Although I am a third the age of this Angry -Young -Man, still i feel that this man also has his own feelings, that he might have hidden in pages of diary, the artist inside the actor, the poet inside the Big-B. I feel that before a professional, we all are human beings, and we all have our opinions, memoirs, reasoning and emotions. I would like to request the writer to daily write in this blog as well as be kind enough to give us insight over a great man’s experiences, so that we netizens could derive some benefit from it.
Politically speaking, we all are part of a single country, I hope we could rise above regionalism and could proudly say that we are “Bharitiya” irrespective of religion, caste, color, or region.
Looking upon response from my source of inspiration
Wishing u all he best in all your future endeavors we well as in blogging.

I am not Indian and I only discovered Indian cinema a few years ago.

I wanted to also comment on the chemistry that you and Tabu had on screen. I believed that no other actors could have pulled it off. I love the humor, the intelligence and just everything about this movie. I hope that you will work again together, soon. Both your versatility as actors astounds me. I could only hope that Tabu does more movies because she truly is a gifted actor.

I wish Abhishek and Aishwarya all the best on their wedding anniversary. I hope the technology works properly so that they can be apart of Sarkar Raj’s launch. I’m hoping Sarkar Raj will be a great successful film just like the original.

Madhuri is already confirmed? That is a very good. As far as the Unforgettable tour is concern I think the line up is very good and varied. I’m wishing you and the others much success with the tour.

I’m glad you had a wonderful time at Shiamak’s show.

I want to know the most challenging part about working on Sarkar Raj. And what was the most rewarding part about working on Sarkar Raj?

What is the best part about working with your son Abhishek?

I think almost any good actor with a good film that is promoted extremely well can garner hits in the entertainment industry these days. Do you feel the star system in Hindi cinema is a thing of the past? What are your feelings on Hindi cinema these days?

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,

It is amazing to be finally communicating with you. To say that it has been a long lasting dream would be an understatement. Also, to say something cliched like “You are my hero; my most favourite; You are legendary, etc.” would be demeaning according to me as the immense goodwill, faith and wishes I have for you are much more superior to mere words.

I wish you all the best as I firmly believe that it is YOU who will force the rest of the world (Global cinema and not just Hollywood) to take Indian cinema seriously. I am honestly irritated by terms such as “Indian movies are very colorful; very entertaining; we love the song and dance” when one realizes that most of them are just trying to be diplomatic and politically correct. The truth is that they are yet to acknowledge us as technically and creatively as good as them and I look forward to seeing you fight it out. All the best for Shantaram, and Komagata Maru. I am aware that The Last Lear has already wowed audiences abroad. Look forward to seeing the movie on Indian shores soon.

    Thanks and god bless!

I have two kids aged 5 and 8 and they are huge fans of yours. They have now seen Amar Akbar Anthony and Sholay like 10 times. (That’s more times than I’ve seen them combined!!!)

Quick question for you. When you sign for the movies what do you ultimately look for? Is it the cast, the script, the director…what appeals to you?

With the remake of Sholay I wish a sequel was done instead. You know..with Daram Ji and Hema Ji as a couple you as a person bent on revenge cause you thought Veeru had left you and you have a son who’s in love in Basanti and Veeru’s daughter and that’s how you two come face to face again….It would’ve been awesome…:o)

Thank you for being who you are and for being so down to earth. Best wishes and best of luck to you and yours.

    God Bless,

    Sukh

But we know you’re taking great efforts and spending a lot of time on this… Whereas, as very concerned fans, we want you to relax as much as you can and to take things easy…

So, Sir, if we can be of any help - say in editing, or in composing some individual replies - please please please… please ask us and we’ll readily-eagerly-happily do ANYTHING!

    The simple address is rajeshkejriwal@gmail.com

I am elated to see that you have started a blog. The long list of queries you are getting must be a priori to you. I am happy to see that you have started blogging primarily because not you are Amitabh Bacchan but you are a person of my father’s age (even few years older). My father is a teacher and going to retire this May from the school. Now, I can quote your example.

As far as, the movies are concerned in which you are presently acting or going to act should be your artistic prerogative. To judge that why you do a particular kind of movies is like asking a person why you work in a particular company.

You have given a lot more information in this blog but what we (let me be specific- I) am looking for thoughts of person- Amitabh Bacchan. I want to know or see some thoughts about the views towards poetry. What as a person he thinks of ‘MADHUSHALA’. Does he ever tries to put words to his thoughts on a paper some fine morning or evening.

Does he think that family, social circle and business obligation weighs more on the mental freeedom (though I know that is a part of life). What he thinks of his own achievments in his own very sense. Does he likes introspection of his own deeds (whether professional, artistic or personal).

My expectation might be weired to some extent but beside getting in touch with your fan base, blog is a digital diary where people write about their personal experience and hobbies but not the schedules. Thoough, majority of people who will be reading your blog must be interested in knowing everything you write.

    best wishes,

    Ashwani Dev

    Dear Mr Bachchan,
Firstly let me congratulate you on taking this step to be in touch with your admirers all over the world. I run a young film distribution company in Poland and organise Indian film festivals all over Poland and soon will start doing the same in Czech Republic and if possible in other European countries. I named it Hello Bollywood. However, I’m aware that you are not exactly fond of the term Bollywood. But here in Poland that sums up Hindi films as most of our viewers are Poles. I’d like you to go through the website if you can http://www.hellobollywood.eu where you can see the list of films. We cooperated with Yash Raj Films and now are coopperating with some other companies as well.
We showcased your film Black here and are going to showcase Hum, Hum Kaun Hai, Geraftar, Manzil and Aankhen. Black is my personal favourite among all of your films till date.
I’d like to do a retrospective of your films and would be extremely grateful if you could come to Poland for even one day as you’ve got lots of Polish fans and admirers here.
I’d appreciate a reply at your earliest convenience.
    Best regards,

The whole issue in maharashtra has been related to “xenophobia” and what understand that it is natural. I am staying in a alien country like US. The local people here feel insecure from the population coming from all over the world, but we cannot underestimate the power of Cosmopolitan nature of any city, state or country. Its wonderful tool towards rapid development. This Phobia can only be treated if the people are mature and literate to understand it.

Let us know more about ‘Sarkaar Raj’ please, whenever you find the time. I had the rare opportunity to watch ‘Sarkaar’ in a theater in my town in Germany - rare, since there are not many NRIs here, and Hindi films are seldom shown. As a fan of your performances, I very much hope your upcoming films will made available to viewers here, too.

As much as you’d like to answer all our comments to your blog - please don’t even try. There will be more to come with every post of yours. No human being has that much time to answer them all. I am sure everybody feels happy to be here anyway!

I read from the newspapers you were being attacked by some political parties for not doing enough for Maharashtra.. You should’ ve made them ccount all those taxes you paid to the state. People who collected the taxes from you, you should point fingers at them ask what they did with your tax money. Be proud and admit the fact you were one of the those payin the most taxes all these yrs. Close the subject like that. If I was in your shoes I’d inquire see how my taxes were spent.

Anyway, If you ever come to Vegas , Id like to meet you..Thanks for your time.. Jetty

  66. Srinivas Ravipaty says:

Mr. Bachchan, I was a little kid when you and Mrs.Jaya Bachchan came to the Taj Hotel in New Delhi in the 80s. I quietly came from behind and asked you for your autograph. Today I remember your much younger face just as I saw you on that night. I still have my little autograph book with yours and Jaya jee’s affectionate autographs.

I am grown-up now, married and I have a beautiful 6 month daughter. My wife is not from India but knows you quite well and we have watched your movies Sholay and Don (several times). I have a copy of Sholay in my closet which I watched perhaps over a 100 times and I know I will most likely watch it another 100 times.

One of your movies that I really like is Ek Rishataa. I liked the fact that the your character promotes common sense, values and respect for a family which was refreshingly different.

But one of the things that really frustrates me about Hindi/Indian movies is
that most movies are a rehash of some Hollywood movie or another Hindi movie or worse yet with story lines that end up nowhere.

I think movies are an excellent medium to change the collective consciousness of people. Movies can motivate people, promote creativity, promote values, promote patriotism or be informative. It is rather unfortunate that only a tiny sliver of Indian movies actually manage to make an impact on the world stage.

There is another genre of Indian movies that harp about the differences between our culture and that of the west. There are differences but packaging and repacking the same and churning out multiple movies is in my opinion is meaningless.

I think one excellent source of stories are comics. Comical as it may sound but JK Rowling’s books on Harry Potter is in one way very similar to Lee Falk’s Mandrake. There are all kinds of Comics, everything from Super heroes to War comics. The characters and story-lines can easily be fleshed out once the broader strokes are known.

The movie Matrix is entirely based on eastern philosophy of a Man’s journey in search of his true self or the consciousness. It is a Hollywood form of Bhagawad Gita where charaters are different but underlying theme is the same which is how one overcomes the mental obstacles(represented by the character Smith) and realizes their true self.

And finally the name Bollywood for our movie industry is the worst way to give credit to our artists. I hope that someone takes the initiative to change the name. Are we so uncreative that we can’t come up with a better name that will stick?

Movies do not necessarily have to show ‘what is’. They can also show the way ‘what we can be’.

I do hope that when you get a chance that you will pen down your thoughts on how our movies can be improved.

Keeping in mind you age factor how do you take care of your health?? People around you pay you for your performances wont be much bothered about your health, they might be more bothered about running their show, so it must be very difficult for you to keep up to all their expectations rite??

    Dear Amitji,

I read with interest the first 2 days of your blog. I often read blogs and send in my 2 cents worth comment. I am disappointed at the way some people in Maharshtra have been treating you. I think they have no clue about the intrinsic and perhaps the magical value that Mumbai brings into one’s life. I lived in Bombay during the early years of my life, almost 8 years. I am a Tamilian by birth, but have only lived in Madras all of 7 days in my lifetime. My father is a retired senior govt official and so we were transferred from many stations off and on. From Bombay we were transferreed to Shillong where we spent 3 years. From Shillong we were then transferred to Delhi where we lived for almost 15 years. After that, I landed up in New York and have since then recently become a citizen. Merely, becoming a citizen of another country doesn’t make me anything. neither American Indian or Indian American. I don’t know if I can still be Indian. So, frankly, I have no roots per se.

What Bombay gave me was one of the best years of my life there. There is something about that place that I have always loved . Bombay belongs to everyone and not just Maharshtrians. India belongs to Indians and not just Punjabis or Tamilians or Gujratis.

Hopefully, people reading your blog learn to appreciate and respect you as an individual and not get bogged down by some handful of people who don’t know what Maharashtra or Mumbai really mean.

    Thank you and regards,

Could I request you to upload a few snippets of you reciting your father’s works. “Bachchan Recites Bachchan” has been my favorite albums of all time. Your rendition of “Agneepath” still gives me goose pimples.

    Good luck and best regards
    Manu Goyal

Honored and Thankful to have lived in the times of your legendary career.

I have couple of questions..generally applicable to successful people of your age and stature. actors, industrialists, politicians etc.

What motivates you to go out and do “it” everyday ? and why ?

    Dear Amitji,

Firstly I would like to say that I am very happy that you have created your blog page to interact with your fans.

The link that I have posted below was a tribute performance dedicated to you. Me and my team performed this at a charity show organised by a society at my university (Queen Mary University of London). I hope you like it.

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2000564559055211573&q=amitabh+bachchan+legend&ei=eSsJSPiXMYv-iQKy-vH7Dg

I also want to know what you feel about the quality of our Indian cinema classics on DVD. I feel that distributors do not do justice to classic movies like Sholay when releasing them on DVD. Sholay also happens to be one my favourite films of all time, I have also managed to read the making of the book. After reading the book, I realised that a huge amount of effort went into making this the greatest film of all time. Which makes me even more sad that such a Grand film like Sholay has been given very poor treatment on DVD. I mean look at Hollywood films they completely revitalise all their old classics on DVD, by providing remastered versions with lots of special features (deleted scenes, interviews). And Sholay is meant to be the biggest film of the Indian film industry? Well the DVD of this film just does not do any justice to it at all.

The reason why I am mentioning this to you is because I feel you can have a say in preserving these classics movies and reviving them on better quality DVD or Blu Ray Discs for our younger generation to see and appreciate.

    Take Care,

    Usman

    Dear Amitabh sir,
I am one of the countless number of fans that you have. I wish you a very pleasant online blogging experience. Also, I am happy about a lot of roles that you have taken up in the latter part of your career. I hope that you get a lot of opportunities that challenge you as a performer. I am waiting to watch ‘Bhoothnath’.

I would like to know that in all these years of donning various roles, has it ever happened that you as the person overshadowed you as the actor on the screen? If so, did you get to know that during the shooting of the movie or do you realize it once the final product is on the screen?

Hope to be a regular reader of your blog.

    Regards,
    Sarang-

I must hand it to you… I greatly admire and respect you.. not because you are a superstar, not because you are so famous, not for your simplicity, not because you are an outstanding actor, not because you have a family and children that is as dignified as you are, not because you are open and lavish in praise for other, but because of the fact that although you are more than twice my age, you still work so hard and seemingly enjoy it as much. And I pray to God to keep you in good health and spirits for a long time.

By the way, a few little suggestions for the blogs:
    1. Make it a little personal (For eg. the visit to Shiamak Dhavar concert). Dont just make it another interview of AB. Blogs are for silly stuff. Something you did today, something you saw today, something someone else did today..
    2. When answering queries/questions, it’d be great if you can keep them a little shorter. In the 2 interviews posted, I only read the questions which had smaller answers :)
    3. Some informal pictures will be nice
    4. Stories from younger days, jokes abt family..

    -Vinod

    Hello Mr. Amit ji

I would like to particularly comment on the term “outsider” I dont believe that anyone is outsider to any particular region in this planet earth. Everybody are creation of the same nature and everybody hold the same equality in terms of being the part of society and the culture. It is there ignorance who have been exploited in support of such misdeed and few peoples personal ego which makes them feel inferior in front of the genuine kindness of your behavior..

Anyways I am not much of a analyst and not much of a blogger (retired)…but I guess this blog will keep me active. I always thought of having a conversation with you.

    Keep it coming and thanx.

I believe you would need to remove/filter out the comments section as it might soon get so overwhelmed that it would be difficult to maintain it.I will be logging in and checking out this blog frequently as it has the potential of being a powerful insight from a the powers to be ;)
