This has been an overwhelming revelation !!

I would at the outset wish to thank all those that helped me put up this facility, at bigadda.com and compliment them for their efficient and committed working. It seems like a new life altogether.

I have today opened my Blog to find hundreds of reactions and inputs. Frankly i had never expected this. But now that i have , i am committed to respond to them. There are several that need a personal answer because of the nature of their queries or comments. I am going to start doing that as i work on my set, in between shots.

For now as my first communication, i wish for a little patience for me to get used to this facility and its technical operation. And as soon as that is done, i shall be on the job.

This is therefore a general communication, but i will get down to personal responses in a while. Bear with me.

To those that have complimented my family and me, my career and my films - a very sincere thank you.

Some have questioned my films and what they entail in the future - i shall give them some idea of that.

Others have brought valid arguments for debate - namely the obvious plagiarisationin films and my subsequent comment on my dislike for western comparative attitudes - i shall put across my points.

There is a question on the reason for repeating my interviews on the blog even though they have been read in print. Very valid, but with a minor difference. Read the print in the newspaper and then minutely, my official written responses and you will discover that all that i have given has NOT been incorporated in the press. This is not an accusation. Press has the liberty and the right to print, in their assessment what they feel needs to go on their paper. But at times i feel, all that i had to say and the manner in which it was said, can and does give a different mentality to the interview. I would in all fairness therefore, want the readers of my Blog, that take the trouble to access it, be privy to facts as they were portrayed by me. And in the true spirit of fairness allow the reader to judge what he thinks is acceptable or not.

The Blog shall therefore give all of us an opportunity to interact as freely as possible and not have to wait for, or be guided by, another medium, which may not be as easily approachable as this Blog.

In conclusion, for the moment i wish to thank once again all those that came on and apologize for not given them my personal attention. I shall in time.

And one last matter.

Many that have written in, have expressed surprise that i being in an exalted position have considered to talk , metaphorically, to the ‘common man’.

This is unacceptable to me. No one is ‘common’. We are all in God’s world ’special’ humans, each one of us. Each one of us have qualities unique and different from others. I do not and certainly not my family, hold any kind of ’special’ status. I am as ‘common’ as the common man and as ’special’ as him too.

My love and my regards to all the readers for entering my heart and providing me an opportunity to enter yours..

Amitabh Bachchan

good to see your long mail…
i think the gossip columns are really biased in what they wanna sell thru their sites and papers…so its wud be good to read the ACTUAL intws rather than the published ones…am really looking forward to your blog…

though i am a big fan of yours n many others…still i dont understand deep within wat do we get after reading all abt you all!!! thats really funny…your life and actions are in no way affecting anyone else except you…its your movies which establish a connection…
but then , its another way of living in the world of fantasies for sometime to get linked a celebrity in our dreamworld…

i wonder whether you and ur family…abhi n ash in particular look at the senseless news items published regarding them…does it all affect you??or are you too used to such attention…rather intrusion into wats going on in yr family…like supposedly u going to pray for a grandchild or that ash is expecting….etc etc…i realy feel bad for the celebrities who paying such a cost for what they are!

Anyways…it has its pluses n minuses…so may God give you a prosprous, healthy and successful life…

It’s a huge huge thing for us fans to be able to interact with someone who you really look up to, someone who is totally unreachable otherwise. Though, like you said very humbly, nobody is ‘common’ , very true … but you are still Amitabh Bachchan ;-) Nobody knows who I am but everyone knows who you are so that makes you little ‘Uncommon’.
Love reading your blog, you write really well. It’s great to have a chance to read your thoughts directly rather than through some other forms of sensationalized media.

    Dear Mr. Bachchan:

First of all, congratulations on and thanks for giving an avenue (this blog of yours) for your admirers to get in touch with you.

I wish you all the very best for Bhoothnath; though, honestly speaking, I’m more breathless for Sarkar Raj. Quite like Sarkar, there is no doubt in my mind that it would be a first-day-first-show for me - notwithstanding career, family, world and life!

I am also a maker of an English feature film, A. O. D., on digital format (www.cinema.rawat.co.in) and presently the Editor of an English monthly magazine, League (www.rawat.co.in) / (www.league.rawat.co.in). Thanking you and hoping to make at least one film with you before I leave for a better world. :-)

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,

Congratulations on the blog. This is a welcome medium you have opened for us to know more about you. I wish you the best strength and patience in maintaining this blog.

Over the years I have read wondrous stories on the making of movies such as Sholay, The Great Gambler, Pukar, Shaan, Satte Pe Satta and the camaraderie shared on the set amongst the production crew and artists. Stories of almost filmi proportions involving Amjad Khan, Prem Chopra, Ramesh Behl, Daddoo Sippy, Ramesh Sippy, etc. provide a more human face to relationships. Hindi cinema truly reflected India in its complexity, chaos, mediocrity countered by moments of sheer magic.

However post 1988-90, there are hardly few such tales of camaraderie and brilliance. We seem to have moved towards a more corporate, business like efficiency where we have templates for every emotion or response.

Sure - movies like AKS, Khakhee, Sarkar, etc are technically much superior to a Satte Pe Satta or Pukar. But there seems to be no heart behind these efforts. The money and fame they bring in are short-lived - almost clinical.

People remember the character of Babu with more fondness than a powerful well-etched character such as Subhash Nagre. We hardly hear stories of how a director (Daddoo Sippy) shot the comic drunken scene with Amjad Khan for Satte Pe Satta and never dubbed over the original shot. We have excellent visuals and performances in movies like Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and Kaante - but nothing memorable that we can recall today - a bare few years after they were made.

Perhaps it is my perception, reasonless grouse or a sign of ageing.

On the 26th I will be attending the IFFLA film festival in LA - where a documentary on RD Burman - Pancham Unmixed will be screened. It is supposed to have interviews of close friends and associates. Perhaps we need more such ventures to celebrate the human side of Hindi film industry. Instead of remaking a Guddi or Namak Haram for modern times, perhaps a re-telling of the making of these movies might provide movie-makers and moviegoers more insight into the lost art of movie making - with real people, relationships, characters. Perhaps we will re-learn the art to make movies that will actually run in theatres (with paying audience) for 25 and 50 weeks. Movies that may technically not stand the test of time - yet never fail to entertain us in mysterious ways.

    Best regards
    Shashi

Even he is delighted to see your performance ( even though he is fan of Dharmenra). Now my son remember you through “chali chali” song. when ever he see you on TV he says chali chali uncle. I liked the diplomatic reply to Raj comments. We like you to be patient and not as a angry young man. your silence/soft reaction will fetch you a lot of respect. Hope i have taken much of your time. Dear Mr. Bachchan,
At the outset, I would like to thank you for taking time off your seriously busy schedule to write to your fans. I am a 3rd year accounting student, studying in the United States. The part of Indiana that I study in, does not have any facility of showing Indian films, even though we have a huge Indian community here, both graduate and undergraduate students. Getting the opportunity to watch Indian films is very very limited and often we have to travel to bigger cities like Chicago to catch the glimpse of the Indian movies showcased here. I have not seen a movie with you since Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Though recently I did watch Amar Akbar Anthony on DVD. I just wanted to say thank you so much for providing the Indian community worldwide with entertainment as beautiful and as informative as your projects. I do not want to shower you with compliments because you have been a regular recipient of that over the course of your distinguished career. The one thing that I wanted to touch upon is the status that is given to our film actors in India and overseas. I understand that whilst the actors are special, they do not need to be so publicised to the extent where they constantly have to look back over their shoulders for prying eyes. It would be so much better if our actors shared the same privileges as we, the common men enjoy. I know I am asking for something extremely out of the way, but I just really hope to see the lack of a dividing line between the film industry and the common mass. I feel that the life of an actor is way too publicised by the media worldwide. In situations like that, it is important to stay grounded and I am pleased to say that judging by your public persona, you have done an excellent job with that. My hats off to you Mr. Bachchan. I sincerely hope that one day, the local movie theatre not only shows the latest American releases but also popular Bollywood titles as well. Congratulations on everything you have achieved and I will continue to write in, as your blog takes shape. With kind regards,

This blog has been such a nice and pleasant surprise to all of us. It probably is something that we did not know how much we want it when it didn’t exist and now when it’s live, we can’t wait to see the superstar of reel as well as real life opening up to his followers. Even the biggest critic of yours would surely be a great admirer of your balanced, mature, thought provoking and intellectual opinions on various matters.

The sad part in the anonymous world of Internet however is this space would not be spared by some social weeds. Please do not get disheartened if you come across these tiny weeds. Your admirer community is far too larger than those handful weeds.

Apart from topics that you wish to write on, one topic that I would like to hear you on is - where from do you drive the courage and strength to successfully deal with adversities in social life (which probably would have become your friends by now) in an impeccably dignified manner?

    Sir,

as a journalist (but dealing in political affairs, not gossip ;) ) I appreciate your concept of publishing your interviews again in your blog. There can be a big difference between the first-hand statement and the edited version. And there’s no need to be overly politically correct about it, I’d even appreciate if you could point out the omissions to your readers here. It would make it easier to spot the difference, and the intentions of the journalist in question.
Many of my colleagues, in Europe as well as in India, don’t really have the freedom of the press in mind when they edit an interview. Their intention does not need to be malicious, but it’s never without personal bias either. Journalists are, after all, common people like everyone else, each with his own ambition and vanity.

Eagerly awaiting your posts on plagiarisation in films and your dislike for western comparative attitudes!

Please consider movies like The Bucket List, Anger Management, Silence of the Lambs or like Chupke Chupke, Namak Halal. You could be wonderful in such movies. I would love to watch you in Hrishikesh da’s type of clean comedies.
    Wishing you all the best.

And speaking of God, you are the God of Indian Cinema! For me at least! I cannot recall a better actor and performer than you of this generation. People argue Dillip Kumar is better but really i find him highly overrated! He is really avg but he has done great films…so i guess that made him what he is!

sir welcome to the world of blogging
for congratulation please accept one of hafiz` ghazalas from me:

O wine-bearer brighten my cup with the wine
O minstrel say good fortune is now mine.
The face of my Beloved is reflected in my cup
Little you know why with wine, I always myself align.
Eternal is the one whose heart has awakened to Love
This is how Eternal Records my life define.
So proud are the tall beauties of the world
Outshines all the others this handsome spruce of mine.
O breeze if by chance you pass through friendly gardens
    From me to my Beloved, please give a sign;
Ask why you choose to forget my name?
Will come the one to whom an audience you decline.
Intoxication pleases my Beloved and my Lord
To the wine, they would assign, my life’s design.
What if on Judgment Day, no favor would be gained
From eating bread and leaving a forbidden water so fine?
Hafiz, let a tear drop or two leave your eyes,
May we ensnare the Bird of Union, divine.
The sea of the skies and the gondola of the moon
With the grace of the Master, radiantly shine.

    Hi Sir,
This is Vishal from Ranchi. I am a Chartered Accountant and am just overwhelmed by the mere thought that m writing to u. Sir, u just don’t know what u mean to millions of families in India and worldwide. Whenever a reference is made about u, it appears that one is talking about a family member and not a star. This is the impact u have made on hundreds of hearts.
I know that it is not practically possible for u to be in touch with millions of ur fans, this blog seems to be a great gesture from ur part to be connected to ur fans.
As far I am concerned, u are just like family, because not a single day goes without ur mention by me, my family, my parents or my friends. Not a single day goes without ur movies being played in any of the televisions in our house. That’s why I feel touched when the person who has been admired by one and all in my family is being told about these small facts.
When I got married in 2004, u were the first person who was mailed the invitation card. It was not a gesture from a fan but u are hailed as an elder member of our family, so it was obvious that u had to be invited. This invitation was not given expecting any reply, but was only a part of the duty that had to be done.
Lastly, I pay my respects to u and thank you from the deepest core of my heart for being part of me and my family.
    Yours always,

A big thanks to you for giving us your finger to hold on to. Well i would like to ask one simple thing. I’m in the same proffession as you are and my baptism to the world of films was done by your film “Zameer”…. i was in my mom’s lap!! Kindly tell me why are you so inaccessable even to the people to your own fraternity? I have some mindblowing ideas and sincerely feel you suite the character to the T…. but alas only if i some had access to you. Though I had very breifly met you at the Filmfare Awards Nite in 2005. So tell me sir… how do i get to sit with you face to face? IS there no future for future filmmakers who would like to work with you? I know you must be getting hundreds of scripts a day….but you also know a thousand script just dont quite make it to your office desk, just because they dont have any “influence” to cash upon. Amitji, you are the reason for me being in this Film world….Is there anything you can do to help?
Wishing you once again the very best from the core of my heart for this blog and all your future endevours.

    Sir,

Its an honour to have the opportunity of directly writing anything to you, to know that what we write and what we think is being read by you. While one must give due credit to technology, one must also appreciate this gesture of yours.

What do we say to you? I dont know. Since I was born (in 1974) I have grown up seeing your movies, laughing and crying with the characters you portrayed. At the risk of sounding repetitive, I must admit that you are the biggest icon in the field of entertainment who has not only matured with the years but also one who has shown tremendous humility and character in the face of adversity.

Perhaps this medium will provide you with the actual feedback that can provide a new dimension to you as far as your choice of films is concerned. Perhaps this medium will be critical for a few of us to find a personal space in your thoughts. Perhaps some of us can even become friends with you. The opportunities are endless.

How I, Sophocles, plan to fully exploit this given chance is to try and communicate with you on a equal level. Where I can criticse your films if they were bad and where I can thank you for a multitude of brilliant performances. Sophcles, as you are well aware, was a greek thinker - and this is my endeavour too, to make people think.

Sir, best of luck with the endeavour. My only advice is that whenever possible right a few words, otherwise this exercise will be in vain.

Best of luck with the forthcoming bhoothnath! I have 34 years of thoughts about your films and I look forward to the days to come when I can share them with you.

For now, I only want to mention that your role in Aalaap was beautiful. I wish the film had succeeded and you had gone on to do many such subtle and brilliant roles. In my next post to you, I will list out 10 of your most outstanding performances. (you may find all your roles to be different, equally interesting and not to be compared, but I request that you hear what we feel :-) )

    warm wishes

    Good morning Mr Bachchan

I am an avid fan of yours and have been for the last 27 years. I live in UK and have met you on 3 occasions! 1st time when you attended the film festival at the odeon cinema in Birmingham about 10 years ago! My question was the 1st one that was put to you and I had the honour of shaking hands with you too. More recently, I was at DeMontfort University in Leicester when you got an honary degree and then met you at the centre outside Belgrave road in Leicester. I also saw you in Shimla Pinks restaurant in Birmingham when you were doing an interview for Eastern Eye newspaper.

It’s great to see you writing your own blog sir. I think this is a fantastic medium for you to communicate with your fans and tell us your own perspective.

I have a request for you sir. In your earlier movies, if you were wronged as a child and you promised revenge, when you grew up after 25 years, your wish became true. Likewise, I have been watching your movies since I was a child and my dream is to entertain you at my restaurant in the UK next time you are in England.

I know this might not be possible as you are always very busy, but Indian cinema is about dreams coming true………

I look forward to reading future post and wish you all the success in the future and a very happy life.

Be honest to your heart while writing on your blog. Do not use it to build up your popularity. It will then become political exercise - and politics is not your cup of tea.
I was waiting for this day when you will have direct contact with the masses without the intermediary of Media who have done all the harm to you - mostly unintentionally. I feel you have a mission. Remember your film ‘Main Zinda Hu’ … or something like that wherein you are made dummy hero by Shabana Azmiji and then you turn out to be REAL hero. I think the time has come for you to assert your view honestly with the masses without mincing the words. You have nothing more to achieve in your life. YOu got everything. YOu have nothing to lose. This is the best time in your life to take the lead and bring this nation out of the clutches of scoundrels.

You may also write a blog clarifying your stand as to on which side you really are. We are all confused. There is an impression that some of your close politician friends are using you and going too far, much against your wishes and you, our of modesty, are keeping silent. This is hurting you image. And we are also sensitive about it - probably more than you do. Has Jayaji bought her way to Rajya Sabha ? This and similar questions need to be answered head on. I would have liked you to retain your loyalty to Rajivji’s family as that would have been more like a true friend.

To keep a long story short, I have been an ardent fan of yours since I was very young. Among my many hopes and dreams, one of them has been to meet you. I often tell my husband that if ever I have the opportunity, the one thing I would like to do is cook a Bengali meal for you!

I had hoped to see you in person for the first time during your next visit to the US with your son and daughter-in-law for the Unforgettables tour. I am fond of saying on blogs, paraphrasing Emerson on Plato, that ‘Amitabh Bachchan’ in Indian cinema is the horizon beyond which we do not yet see. To praise a signature called ‘Amitabh Bachchan’ is a bit like showing a torch to the sun. But to adequately engage with the effects of this signature is a far more difficult task and one to which the right critical attention has not yet been devoted in India. We still operate within the frame of an event called ‘Amitabh Bachchan’ but we are wholly oblivious to the full force of this legacy. I find it a bit regrettable that Amitabh Bachchan himself is not fully versed in the enormous histories he has helped unleash or is not very aware of his unique gifts as a star-actor or his unique achievements. But it is upto us, the ‘audiences’ or the ‘readers’ of this great ‘Bachchan text’ to become worthy of deciphering it. The Bachchan corpus is a gift to Indian cinema. Beyond this it is a gift to those like myself who have always cherished the name ‘Bachchan’ and considered it sacred in so many ways. This is not unthinking adulation. It is to be always guided by signposts like Deewar and Trishul and Kaala Pathar and Lawaaris and Mili and Jurmana and so many other works that have constantly informed, enriched and entertained.

I have still not ‘addressed’ Amitabh Bachchan here. How does one address a God?! How does one go outside an ‘event’ to think it?

I am however pleased that ‘we’ are being ‘addressed’ through this blog.

For a long time I had despaired of anyone taking on the Bachchan legacy and adding to it in any useful sense. But I now see Abhishek Bachchan doing this in the most remarkable sense. It’s still ‘early’ for him but already I see a remarkable career being laid out. In a more theoretical sense I think Abhishek is writing a thrilling coda, a grand finale to his father’s history. This characterization does not diminish Abhishek in any sense since it takes an out of the ordinary talent to add a chapter or more to Amitabh Bachchan’s legacy. I have felt this for the longest time in the face of considerable opposition. Of course in recent years, with success both commercial and critical, my voice isn’t as much of a lonely one. At the very least I am glad to have Mani Rathnam and Rakesh Mehra (and in fact many lesser names) on my side in terms of this judgment! Rathnam especially has shown a great understanding of what I’ve been referring to here in Yuva and Guru where he is engaged in an agon with the principal Bachchan persona of the mid-late 70s. To my mind the ‘age of Bachchan’ continues…

Its always nice to hear it straight from the heart rather than distorted reports in the media (The Media in this country has gone to the dogs, can’t believe them any more) . Just want to leave you a thought provoking article that might interest you.

Life isn’t about keeping score. It’s not about how many friends you have. Or how accepted you are. Not about if you have plans this weekend or if you’re alone.

It isn’t about who you’re dating, who you used to date, how many people you’ve dated, or if you haven’t been with anyone at all. It isn’t about who you have kissed, it’s not about sex.

It isn’t about who your family is or how much money they have. Or what kind of car you drive. Or where you are sent to school. It’s not about how beautiful or ugly you are. Or what clothes you wear, what shoes you have on, Or what kind of music you listen to.

It’s not about if your hair is blonde, red, black, or brown. Or if your skin is too light or too dark. Not about what grades you get, how smart you are, how smart everybody else thinks you are, or how smart standardized tests say you are. It’s not about what clubs you’re in or how good you are at “your” sport. It’s not about representing your whole being on a piece of paper and seeing who will “accept the written you.”

But, life is about whom you love and whom you hurt. It’s about whom you make happy or unhappy purposefully. It’s about keeping or betraying trust.

It’s about friendship, used as a sanctity or a weapon. It’s about what you say and mean, maybe hurtful, maybe heartening. About starting rumors and contributing to petty gossip.

It’s about what judgments you pass and why. And who your judgments are spread to. It’s about whom you’ve ignored with full control and intention. It’s about jealousy, fear, ignorance, and revenge. It’s about carrying inner hate and love, letting it grow, and spreading it.

But most of all, it’s about using your life to touch or poison other people’s hearts in such a way that could have never occurred alone.

Only you choose the way those hearts are affected, and those choices are what life’s all about.

Namaste-ji Bachchan Saab. Like millions of others, I am a very big fan of yours, and try to read as much as I can about yourself and your career, so I was extremely surprised to find today that you’ve stared this web-site and blogging, therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for giving us a platform to interactive with you.

I am looking forward to seeing your and the ‘Bachchan Fan’ community’s comments by logging on regularly (already have this site in my favourites).

As much as I love you as a person and knowing about your life in general, I love knowing you as an professional artist along with your art in the world of movies, therefore, please can you comment (on regular basis), on your work, your movies, your interaction with other artists, future project, trips down memory lane, etc (by the way – I totally agree with Rohan – you should try your hand at being a Bond Villain, because ‘Bachchan & Bond’ will be heaven for me).

I came close to saying ‘Thank You - for giving us wonderful entertainment over the decades’ to you in person once, when you came to sign your 60th birthday book in Manchester, England, but it wasn’t meant to be. So for now, Thank you once again.

    Welcome shelcome sir!
Like I said before, it’s great to have you in the blogging world and really look forward to seeing more of your blogs.

Like many have said over the past and continue to say it now, you are one of the most vesatile actors. You’ve done every kind of role that I think now it’s probably hard for the directors and producers to offer you something new that you really haven’t done.

Your performance in your old movies has been amazing but I think one of your best was in Baghban. Being a 20 year old, I’d learnt a LOT from that movie. Infact, it was the first movie I took my parents to see in the cinema in a very long time and my mom cried throughout the movie. I think that hows how powerful your performance was. Baghban will always be special to me in a sense that it was the first movie that really taught me about what family and parents are all about. And it’s all because of YOU! So thank you sir!

Recently, I’d read that Jayaji is also quiet a computer person, was wondering if she will also start to blog soon? It would be wonderful to have her aboard among all us bloggers.

Once again, thank you for starting your blog. Truly look forward to reading many many more of your beautiful and thoughtful thoughts :)

Lots of love and best wishes.

I respectfully request your comments on several issues:

    1. The portrayal of “religion” in films in India.

    2. The borderline between the religious and the supernatural in films, especially with respect tp BHOOTNATH.

    Amitji,

    Welcome to the digital world!!!

Sir, I have been living in US for past few years and it is wonderful to be able to reach you now. I admire you from the bottom of my heart and have been your fan for as long as I can remember. So, congrats to you for all your success and wish that you do some remarkable films before hanging your boots!!! You are the best and no one else can even come closer to you.

Before I end, can I give a little bit of advice, if you do not mind. Sir, if SRK or Amir can select their projects with so much finesse and make sure that production values of his projects are top class, why cann’t you? Please stop making silly mistakes and stop appearing in worthless projects and spoil your name. They may be experimental, but choose them wisely. When the whole country was against the remaking of sholay, why would you accept a role in that. Specially, when you had a memorable role in the original? Also, please stop falling in the trap of media. Please stop answering stupid questions. Your earlier dignified silence was a better strategy, I think. That creates less controversies. I wish your whole family could stay away from politics. I know you are not in politics, but Jayaji is. It is not nice to see you answering stupid allegations day after day. Your family aligning with one party was not the smartest thing to do, in my opinion.

I wish to write to you again and it will be simply woderful to receive a reply from you too. I hope you take my words in the right spirit.

    Wish you all the best!!!
