Taj Coromandel Hotel, Chennai  April 25, 2008  12 midnight

Its Kamal Hassan’s film ‘Dasavataram’ and its music release and he has asked me over to attend the function to commemorate the occasion. There’s Jackie Chan, and the Chief Minister of TamilNadu and several colleagues of Kamal. Its a warm friendly event. The few minutes of the promo seen looks awesome. He has played 10 different roles in the film, and all seem so difficult t identify !! Marvelous !!

Back tomorrow to Mumbai and ‘Aladin’ - the song and action work is over and we move on to another set.

The messages continue to pile in at an alarming rate and with greater endearment and love.. just so moving to me. Never expected this would and could happen. The compliments are just so warm and i want to give a general response to them for the moment and say, thank you and that it is still not possible to reply individually, but i am trying to get a team to help me and it shall soon fructify - not to execute my thoughts and work or my blogging, but to be able for me to see all that comes in to  allow me to randomly answer a few.

Satyam, writes on a sensitive  philosophical matter with reason and logic. I loved his comments on ‘lies’ and ‘false’ and ‘truth’ and the combination of the three vocations - politics, media and film. They were well researched and sincere.

Vijaya talked of great minds and divinity and how i should ignore loose talk. Maybe she is right.

But i really have no intentions of illusions. My limitations just like everyone else are there for all to see. Many that write in have expressed similar sentiment - ‘you are above all this, maintain dignity.’

But dignity is getting construed as relevant acceptance of wrong. How to correct that. I invite comment and debate.

Chirag, Ahmedabad, wants a formula of how to get out of bad times. I have none. I just keep moving from day to day. Sometimes persistence pays and all i can advise is to follow that.

Neeta Sharma - thank you for Babuji’s reference and to your readings from the ‘Rachnavali’. The ‘Rachnavali’ for those that do not know is a 9 volumne collection of my father’s works, a collection that lies in almost all the rooms in our house, decorated and referred to almost on a daily basis. We find solace, and explanation and answers and questions in there. Some, due to the poet’s habitual foresight and vision, years old, yet so meaningful in today’s time. We are in the process of reprinting it on a much larger and decorative scale.

Sharad Kumar from Scotland insists on reading a motive behind the invite list to the Abhi-Ash wedding. I find it below my dignity to give explanations to a matter that in my reckoning, is firmly embedded in the private domain. But let me tell you this. Every member of my entire staff with their families, people who have worked and remained with us for over 30 years, drivers, cleaners, kitchen staff, peons, minders, office bearers, security, helpers - formed the major portion of my list. They came as my guests. Not to work that day or help. They were my invited guests. My family, Jaya, Abhishek, Shweta, my grand children and I all  sat with them and looked after them, served them food with our own hands and nothing in the world could have given us more pleasure than doing that. For me they were my most important guests. I did not need anyone else, for they were people who tirelessly have worked day in out with us. Lived through our pain and glory, through success and failure, through sadness and joy and never ever changed. They remained devoted and servile and committed and constant. Their allegiance and sincerity never in doubt.

Abhimanyu Srivastava - you took a signature on your left hand many years ago in Allahabad during the time of my election and now you have grown into a mature writer and want to meet up to show me your work. Write to me at my address in Mumbai at Prateeksha, Juhu and i shall instruct my office to set up a meeting.

A few have asked for me to remove my beard. I am afraid, it is not going to happen in a hurry. Primarily because of continuity in my forthcoming films, but also because i seem to like it there !!

There is concern and criticism on the choice of my films, these days. I shall allow that to gain thought. Maybe there were compelling circumstances, friendly considerations and rank bad decision making. I am human. Mistakes happen. If it has been upsetting for you, it has been equally distressing for me. For this my apologies and a promise to be more careful in the future.

But i have honestly felt that my choices would hardly form the topic of anyones concern. I am wrong then. It is heartening to note that there are people who still show concern.

And… there are no blocks or moderators till now. My instructions have been nothing should be stopped from appearing. If i have opened my house for all to come in, i cannot be choosy.

And this thought harbors close on its heals to my thoughts on discrimination and as one blogger questions, why i keep company of those that discriminate if i do not endorse it. There is reference here to Bala Saheb Thakeray and his dislike towards certain communities. Yes, there are relations with several politicians. High profile celebrities can seldom keep away from them. But i feel if i do not interfere or necessarily believe in their politics, does it give enough reason to disassociate the relation. Has there been any direct endorsement to the politics of any leader of prominence, since i left politics ?? Have i canvassed for them ?? Yes, i did do an advertisement for the UP Government, propagating the beauty and benefits of the State to invite investment and yes it was funded by the Samajwadi Party, the Party in power. But, i did it in the capacity as the Brand Ambassador of the UP Development Council, a body formed to look into the investment profiles of the State. It being funded by the Party, gave it the look of a Party propaganda. But that is incorrect. Where else could it have been paid from ?? The Government paying that amount would have caused debate on the veracity of the usage of public money. Hence the Party.

Some questions have been raised on my land matters and bloggers have led me on to sites carrying articles from magazines on this issue. The Barabanki matter has been summarily dismissed by the Honorable Supreme Court in my favor. That matter is now over. But some other issues are still in court, it would not be prudent to speak about it yet.  Let the final judgement come, either way, and i shall respond to it in great detail, for let me tell you, much like the several other stories that have opened your eyes, this one shall too.

I live by my father’s lines from a poem -

“main chupana jaanta toh jag mujhe sadhu samajhata,

shatru mera ban gaya hai, chhal rahit vyavahar mera ”

If i knew how to hide, the World would have thought me to be a saint.

My unblemished nature has become my biggest enemy.

Namaskar, Shubhratri, ShabhaKhair, Satsriakaal, good night

Amitabh Bachchan

    Salaam AmitJi,
I commented on one of your previous blogs about a film idea, I would really love to know what you thought about it. As a huge movie fan its something i would definitely go to watch!!
I’ve copied it here for you to read if you missed it previously.
I also want to say how sorry i was to hear about your injury and am totally unsurprised at how well you’re doing. You’re an inspiration.

    Copied from day 4 blog….

My name is Jahangir and I’m from London. I have grown up watching your films and I have a great idea for a film AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY 2: HONI BECOMES ANHONI.

The film could star yourself, Rishi Kapoorji, Vinod Khannaji and of course the three star sons. Abhishek, Akshaye, and Ranbir.
The main plot of the film would be something along the lines of; Anthony’s still up to his “under-handed”ways, Amar is the commissioner of police and Akbar is a Qawwali ustad. The twist is that Anthony’s son has more “moral fibre” like his Amar uncle, therefore he joins the police. Amar tries to push his son into the Police force, even though, all he wants to do is sing like his Akbar uncle, and Akbar’s son can’t sing to save his life and looks up to his Anthony uncle in a big way.
Can you imagine what would happen if Anthony came up with some hair-brained scheme to get rich quick for some benevolent cause (his hearts in the right place, of course) and roped in Akbar’s son to help him?

I hope you like my idea. I think it would make a great film, and, although there could never be another Manmohan Desai, I could think of at least three directors who could be suitable to make such a film.

P.S Please make a film with Subhash Ghai sometime soon!!!!!!!

P.P.S Your writing is great, a successful writer is able to convey his voice to his reader through his words. Your father would be proud, I’m sure.

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,

Its really lovely to read your blog. I admire your ability to do so many things at the same time! Its really awesome. I personally feel that, a man of your stature in India essentially becomes a part of a lot of aspects, be it entertainment, politics, social life etc. Do you ever feel that you would have preferred having a life which concentrated only on entertainment? But hey, I am not asking that question because you are doing bad in any aspect but out of general curiosity. I know and you obviously know that you have the power to make a huge impact on a large number of people in our country. So, here is my next question. If you had to invest your energy to do JUST ONE THING that would have an impact on the society apart from films - what would it be? If I got up one day as Mr. Bachchan, I would invest my energies in making people realize and value the fact of India being democratic and make people feel what democracy really means (ofcourse after getting over the shock of being so tall! ;)).

  19. Satyam says:

One of the dismaying qualities I note among those who comment here is that there is not a complete understanding of many of the matters they bring up. Specially when it comes to controversial issues like Barabanki or the Thackerays and so on. I am not doubting anyone’s sincerity necessarily but I think that even as we ‘the audiences’ blame the media for all kinds of politics and bad faith we should be careful to also do some of the hard work of ‘research’ on our own. We should be certain that we know what’s going on with any one of these issues to the extent that we can glean it from all available media outlets. But this also requires going beyond the actual stories and looking into the background of many of the ‘players’ or ‘issues’ that crop up. For example how many have analyzed for themselves the question of how much the Congress have been hounding Amitabh Bachchan and why this might be so? Or that the Barabanki issue was also played out in Mayawati’s dispensation? A government that is hardly charitably inclined towards the Bachchans! Or even the whole question of what the Sena has been upto in Bombay for about 40 years now? What kinds of political campaigns has it run? What have the recent ‘civil wars’ in the Sena meant? So on and so forth. I don’t mean to sound didactic here but I think there is a strong responsibility on ‘us’, the ‘readers’ or the ‘audience’ to also be ethical about these things and really try to acquire as much knowledge about the facts as we can.

It is the easiest thing in the world to launch ‘allegations’ against those who are in public life. Public figures are always ‘vulnerable’ to such gossip mills (of course it’s not just public figures, bourgeois families do rather amongst themselves in this regard!). This is what makes the media so tyrannical when it chooses not to be responsible or ethical. This does not mean that we forsake ‘questioning’. Of course not! But we should be sure about the ground on which we stand when we question. My favorite thinker reminds me that it is ultimately about framing the question the right way. One must be on the right path in terms of launching ‘questions’. The truth in life is always complicated, always dependent on perspective. Which is why there cannot be ‘final and total’ answers. But there can be questions that enlighten and inform. We should strive towards such. And one way to preserve the ethics of ‘questioning’ is in my view to avoid the frivolous. A guest list for a wedding is surely not a metaphysical issue!

The Latin language (excuse me for sounding a bit pedantic here) has a very nice word, fama, from which our own ‘fame’ derives. This Latin word has a variety of meanings which include ‘report’, ‘rumor’, ‘fame’, ‘reputation’. There is in effect a link between ‘rumor’ and ‘reputation’, between what we ‘report’ about people and the extent to which these reports then become part of the reputations of those people. It is therefore critical that ‘rumor’ not form the connecting link between ‘report’ and ‘reputation’. At the same time it is also worthwhile remembering that a lot of our knowledge about others involves an admixture of ‘rumor’ which is why the ethical stakes are always great in these matters.

    Dear Amitji

    Adaab!

You are very right that dignity could be construed as acceptance of wrong. My my view is that it is extremely indignified to accept an attack or a wrongdoing which strikes at one’s self respect or integrity or name. No matter what, one MUST fittingly respond in a socially acceptable, lawful and civilized way.

So it depends on what kind of wrong is being done - its nature, its degree and its impact. Please do not get me wrong here. For that matter, any kind of wrong doing is bad and shouldn’t be accepted. But one has to be practical and pragmatic.

Hence, my response to a wrong would depend on the impact that it has on my conscience, my family, my society and my country and its content and tenor would be driven by what is allowed by civility, the law of the land and available resources.

    God bless!!

    Best regards

    Sir,

This is not against Jaya u’r wife, but Jaya the RS MP. Why does she always speak with utter lack of knowledge/consideration? She always says stuff that are below the dignity/decorum of a RS member. I think that is acceptable for other MP, who has been in politics and grown from strength to strength from grass root level. But, here she comes in as a former Movie star, wife of star of the millennium, and a dignified mother all through these years. But now, whenever she opens her mouth, it looks like she is either complaining about the harassment to her family, or how uncomfortable her family members are when a flood hits Mumbai, or attacking other party people for no apparent rhyme or reason. Again I think she is just not cutout to be in politics. She looks like someone who has nothing to do better at home, and since she had the connections to get into RS, she fancied herself a seat in there.

No hatred against her..I watched Guddi the other day, and fell in love with Kusum:). I saw it once when I was a kid, and didn’t realise then, but it had you too in that movie. That is a sweet movie, and actually seeing you 2 was in a way nice and sweet.

Sir, with lots and lots of respect ——— I promised you that in my next post I will tell you what your makeup man Mr. Deepak Saawant told me about you, it even becomes more relevant now since you have talked about all your staff being present at Abhishek’s wedding.

I was talking to him here in Vancouver during the filming of Aitbaar, when you were eating your lunch inside at the island where the filming was being done. He had so many nice things to say about you—He told me (his exact words) 38 saal ho gaye sahib ke saath kaam karte karte, aaj tak maine sahib ko kisi se unchi aawaaz main baat karte nahin suna. Professionally hee nahin , personal life main bhee sahib ke jaisa koi nahin hai. He told me how you never complain about anything. I can vouch for this, the food we had here in Vancouver (I also ate the same food) wasn’t great, it was oily but you ate the same food and didn’t complain. I had home made pasta with me but I just could not dare to offer it to you but I did offer chocolate to you and you loved it, do you remember Sir?

All these people who have been complaining of not being invited at the wedding, I bet you anything didn’t know that you had invited all your staff and their families. I am not surprised at this at all, when Babujee could ask Jamadaar to climb on the roof and jhanda (fleg) faharao than I am not surprised at your gesture.

Sir, either you didn’t read my previous post or you are planning to surprise me all of a sudden, Sir please that letter that Sir Dilip Kumar wrote you after Black , if you are comfortable to share with us, kindly get it scanned and post it on your blog.

I love you coming on the blog and communicating with us, I don’t have go Google Amitabh Bachchan any more.

Next time I go to India, I will grab Rachnawali. I am so proud to have Babujee’s autobiography and on top of that you were so kind to sign all four parts and I have read them all and still read them from here or there and sometime read it to my mother.

I know God, my mother- my wife – my kids love me and I know the Best human being Amitabh Bachchan, in between all this who am I , it does not really matter.

Sir, kindly ask Abhishek to write something on your blog.

Sir, you haven’t written anything again—how is your back? How are you doing now?

Sir, I am mailing a letter to Ms. Rosy Singh at your prateeksha address ,written by my 11 year old and me. I will be mailing it this weekend.

Sir, would you be kind enough one day to describe how you felt when Mr. Nelson Mandela came to you in South Africa and asked you if you recognised him. You have mentioned that in interviews but I like to know more. What happened afterwards, what did two of you talked about?

With lots and lots of respect, this is Deepak from Vancouver.

    Dear Mr.Bachchan,

I hv just started reading yr blog. Quite interesting & what is most fascinating is that you try to revert on most of the comments posted. This is incredible considering the fact you`re a very busy man. I hv a blog of my own (http://thatslifeshakenbutnotstirred.blogspot.com) but not very often I revert to people`s comments. `m really inspired !!!

I am not particularly a great fan of yours but whenever one watches your movie one just cant stop raving abt yr performance. I often wonder how you play every character with so much conviction - no matter how bad or good the script, character or may be the entire movie is. You always stand out in all yr movies. One just cant forget yr silent frustration in Mili or that suave romantic of Silsila & Kabhi kabhi. Similarly, can we imagine anyone else essaying the role of teacher in Black (although, I feel this character cld hv been slightly underplayed…not yr mistake fr sure……Sanjay Leela Bhansali is in the habit of making his characters sound & act over the top). Now, I just wnted to ask you few questions :-

    1) Not only off late but also in yr eariler films you`hv experimented (Chupke Chupke,Saudagar,Anand,Abhimaan etc) …but, the kind of talent you are…..`m still waiting for that one movie which explores yr talent to the hilt. When do we get to see that movie ???

    2) `m sure not many directors / production houses would want to make such pathbreaking movies in India. Why dont you initiate the process. Look back at our literature, there are so many characters which would beautifully render themselves to silver screen….may be a Mirza Ghalib or may be a remake of Garam Hawa ???

    3) Can we ever see the remake of Silsila with Abhishek, Kareena Kapoor & konkona sen sharma ???

    4) Now, a question which may offend you….but, perhaphs certain cynicims thats prevailing makes me put this question to you….r u truly interested in blogging you`re just helping yr frnd in making his another business venture a success….plz answer this ques at yr own discretion….whatever may be the reason, we are not complaining !!!

Cheers & look forwrd to many more good movies & posts from you !!!

    Thnx & Rgds,

    Abhishek

    Amitji,

Its most unfortunate that even today there is enough motive and benefit for people to allege some thing ridiculous at a personality like you, gain temporary attention and audience. These individuals are at a comfortable position where they have nothing to lose and everything to gain as they are playing the game cross domain as you are not in the same profession. Cant help thinking about some of the ridiculous cases against Sania Mirza either. The fact is our polity has been sinking to new depths, and unfortunately not many are concerned about this. Your attempt to bring out the obvious differences between Public Figure and public official was admirable. The fact that you had to do that is speaks about the unfortunate state of people.

That said, going by your posts over the past few days it appeared that each incident is hurting you really badly. I feel its the time for your supporters world over to get together and organize themselves - and at the very least deter these people from thinking that you’ll be an easy target. Your decision to blog is highly commendable in this regard. Dear Sir,

your story about the wedding of Abhishek and Aishwarya and its guest list just blew me away tonight.
Years ago, on my first visit to India, the biggest ‘culture shock’ I had was seeing so many servants, and being served everywhere I went. You see, I live in a country where only the very rich can afford house servants, guards or drivers. So I sometimes had trouble coping with the way my Indian hosts (and friends!) treated their staff.
Knowing that you invited your staff and their families to your son’s wedding, while so many “important” people had to stay away - wow. My respect for you has just doubled!

You invited comments on “dignity is getting construed as relevant acceptance of wrong” and how to correct that. My 50 cent on that are: Your life and dignity are entirely up to yourself. No matter what you do, what you say or what you don’t say, there will always be those who construe it in a way that is twisted and wrong. If you speak up at every slight to you, people could call you undignified, thin-skinned or a nitpicker. Of course, if you keep your dignity, you do it at the risk of it getting construed as acceptance of wrong. So, in a way, you could always feel the loser, because always someone will affront you again in some way - you’re just that public a figure, and the media is a beast that needs a lot of fodder!

But it all depends on your perspective. You don’t have to feel the loser. It all depends where you look. If you let your life become affected by people who misquote and malign you, it will be a life full of sadness and anger. They will not stop or go away, whatever you choose to do.
If you let your life be defined by people who respect, like and love you, it will be full of joy.

Fighting is necessary, if it is for a worthy issue and/or if you feel like fighting. In my opinion, derogatory media remarks are not a worthy issue, and lifetime can be spend in better, happier and more dignified ways. You have a great family, good friends and millions of fans who adore you, but you allow a spiteful dozen (or so) of rabid reporters to occupy your thoughts and time. Why do you give them so much importance?

Dignity - in my opinion - is neither to keep always silent, nor to fight every time. It’s simply to live your life, choose your films and fight your fights the way you choose, without dancing to the tunes of a few self-styled critics.
As you know. As you did when inviting your staff to your son’s wedding.
    THAT is dignified!

And by the way: Please keep your beard, it looks great! ;)

It’s midnight in Frankfurt too, now - time to stop writing an already much too long comment…

    Good night and Namaskar,
    Elisabeth

well after reading your views in this blog and those things about the media where they actually manipulated the words you said in a slight humorous way into a serious issue[read all your posts] i feel sorry for who ever faced these kind of problems because of media which works for its growth rather than telling truth

And now make a point that they[media] will make it a regular habit or you can say daily routine to read your blog to take out your issues and make them big which are not useful for this country but is useful for their so called TRP. some times i think that why is this that media is given so much liberty where they can turn everything in to their favor.

i am only 18 and have not more than 0.001% of your experience and knowledge of this world and its politics but i can surely say one thing about
media that “some” of the news channel…i think the word “many” would suit well..they don’t even say the news, they make the news,or they just fake it

because i see a lot of national news channels and my regional news channels
[i belong from hyderabad] just fake news that we can clearly understand from it and which in turn creates more news for them to carry on their business

thats all which i wanted to all my feelings which such a great person

You have ruled the box office over 4 decades now and I am sure its not by chance and you have made some wise choices while selecting the script, banners and directors. One choice which always worked for you was Salim Javed combo as script writer. your films, with them as script writer, were like magic. In Baghban, the last scene written by Javed was one of your best in recent years. I am not sure if its possible, nevertheless, I wish to see this combo write a script with you as central character. Another director, I want to see you work with is Mani Ratnam. You acting as a central character in Mani Ratnam’s movie will rock !!

I have often wondered how as an actor do you prepare for your job. Do you think about the role and how to play it out at home? Do you discuss it with your family (you have been blessed with such a huge talent bank right at home)? Do you discuss the role right before the shot with your co-actors, cameramen, make up man, director or anyone who happens to be around you? Do you rehearse? How often?
What happens if the director asks you to do something which you know or feel is incorrect and won’t go with the scene or movie? How do you handle such conflicts?

    Mr. Bachchan,
We are very happy that you broke your siliance and sharing your thoughts. i think the best way to deal with this kind of issue by going on the TV and present a five minutes laugh everyday on the shows like what Shekhar Suman did on his show. I think people are more intrested watching Amitabh bachchan in Funny, Comidian Role then on serious notes.
I think TV today is the best Media to Express your Feelings by your own Funny TV show. It will scare all of the press reporters and every jurnolist who writes bad about you. i assure you that they will think twice becasue at that time they will know that BigB will say it on the Air.
belive me sir it will really get your telant out and you will feel much better.
I am still having trouble digesting a truth about shahrukh Khan the person who can even talk straight without adding his eggo in his statement. hosting an awards functions like Filmfare. this is really a disgras to the film industry that person cant talk clear becomes a comidian on the stage while person with a real telant seating and watching a monkey(shahrukh) duing his trick.
Mr. bachchan you have natural telent of making people laugh via SMS, jokes you should bring it out on the TV so you can stop media barking at you.
Please do something on TV people have a tendency of beliving when they see a same person comes on TV and says something everyday then on internet or on the back stage.
Shahrukh is trying to achive that but we all know that he cant get to your level but if he will continiue people will belive him more since he is always in media either for cricket or for anything he knows how to publically make his presence and beat your popularity. we heard that only reason he bought IPL Calcutta team is becuase amitabh has the highest popularity in that city then any other actor in the world. culccutta is the only city which has Bachchan’s temple all over. he want that from culcutta and he will continue until he will get it. that is waht he does best he know how to take something from you and he is very best at it. as you know that how he took ove bachchans two home / family one is Dharma Production and second is yashraj production.
again we do not want to see bachchan in back seat all the time we want to see bachchan hosting a show and make fun of others in action.
please do something we are tired watching you on the back stage and always defending you self.
Please try to rember two dialogs from your own movie agipath it is a jungle rule and second one is ” baat karni ho to samne …. galat chig banaya telephone.” please come out and do something now days it looks very cheap but any person who wants to become a popular is trying to hit on bachchans so he gets his name out like Raj Thakray and Anurag basu, Shatru, Shahrukh because they know that is is really easy and bachcnan will never say anything. stop these people before they get out your hands. create your own media create your own nespaper but please do not stay on the back stage internt is good but TV is the best to get in every single person’s heart who loves you so much and wants to see you everyday.

People wants to belive who comes out and says something so please befoe it gets too late and you can not control the media do something make people belive in you by coming out on their face not behind the back i think that is what media and people wants now days becasue we know that bachchans are honest and fair.
if you look at the history only funny / Comedy movies are enjoyed all over. everytime we go to watch movies in USA we see people laughing and enjoying so much even though there is no story in it.
we went to see a movie called “Welcome” we noticed people are laughing for no reason and i was just wondering where is mr bachchan with this style ? why cant amitabh make a one funny movie that all people want pure entertainment with some serious sences but majority people only want to laugh since they want to forget thier real life pain . we want to see mr. bachchan having us laugh and make us proud.
please come out Mr. bachchan and hit your telents. we want bachchan in funny roles and as a comidian. it is the best medicine for all .
Sorry for advise but it is my true belive and thoguht from my heart. Please forgive me.
    regards,
    Gopi

    Amit Sir,
marvellous. enjoying your responses and your open communication with all. with this honest and open approach your blog is going to be a place where thousands of your admirers will be gathered daily to interact with you.
everybody does mistakes in life as we all are human. being your well wisher i wish to repeat that politician, by nature, knows only one thing, that is to see his/her own political benefit first. may be i am wrong but many of todays politicians, who show you as their friend, were against yu during bofors time and were attacking you and your parents.
you know life better and deeper than many of us. you are right about your personal relationship with certain politicians. its painful to see you having little wrong impression. how our ideal man cant see which we can see at much younger age with no political experience?
its better to say less on this matter.
case of mr anil ambani is before all of us. he is a businessman first and his major benefits, money, fame etc come from business and all other things are secondary. he tried like you but could not afford to be associated with SP. he had to resign from uper house. he can have relationship with every party but he certainly cant be seen as associative of SP only. he was more wise and took decison at right time. people have short memory and son he can make his image belonging to no political party.
you could have opted same approach but perhaps you are too naive in such matters. Mrs Jaya Bachchan should not have become MP again from SP’s ticket. its not helping any of you. Sahara group can afford to support SP and BJP both because they are a big and rich group and every party will like to keep relation with them but same is not case with you. you are an individual and will be treated like that.
as anil ambani first is a businessman, same way you are first a cinema person. your name, fame, money, everything comes from acting profession and if you take it for granted then its certainly will harm your life.
Raj Bababr was associated with SP, did people care? no because he never had national figure status and he always had political ambitions.
your case is opposite. you have tried to go for cut down in your image which was based on an all india level and you reduced it to a narrow minded party. SP’s politics revolve around mainly a particular cast Yadav and thus SP can never have a national vision and party will always be surrounded by some controversy and you will have to suffer because in reality your own status is bigger than SP. You will not like me but my devotion is for you and not for small parties. For people, its SP who has gained by showing you as their staunch associate and in reality you have got harms.
Cinema, politics, business all demand full time attention and one should understand sanctity of this demand. and truth is this political association is keeping a wonderful actress Mrs Bachchan away from films. now she has little responsibility towards children (mean day to day responsibility) and cine lovers should see more of her in films. How a brilliant actress like her can ignore films?
Will she make any difference in upper house or in politics?
but she certainly will make a lot of difference if she becomes active in films on full time basis. We have missed her all those years when she tok sabbatical because of her family responsibilities.
i hope you will not dislike me for writing in straightforward manner. but as mentioned above. my devotion is for you and not to small political parties.
People have lost faith in politicians. How people can believe many narrow minded politicians when even their party men and long time associate dont know that their leaders actually have been having two families with two wives at same time.
You or anybody dont have to dis own political friends but as they care first for their own benefits and own life same way you should take care of your image also.
and above all, please do what your inner being says. whereever you get inner peace please do that. from a distance we can say, Amitabh Bachchan does not need any kind of political shelter, its a false impression as he is strong because of love of people of india.
May god bring clear and good situations before you.
Regarding your choice of films, yes there were wrong choices.
Perhaps you dont see yourself with proper understanding. People keep a very high image of yours and expect a lot. We understand that you can have best stories, best scripts but somehow you dont demand it.
You may show solidarity behind RGV to give him strength but reality is subjectwise Nishabd and RGV ki Aag both the films were faulty.
RGV ki aag- in Sholay Gabbar Singh and Thakur both are people around 40 but RGV made Jabbar Singh old. That was a clear mistake. Physically dangerous, etc are terms fit for a person under 50 and after that one can play a character like Mogambo or characters played by Ajit in 70s and Premnath in Johny mera naam etc.
You did not ask RGV to make story reasonable and it was a mistake. apart from his treatment to the film, characterization and story were very weak.
such story means a high voltage firesome relation between thakur and jabbar and it was missing.
Not that you did not play it well. like always you tried your best but when character has no substance than actor has to become helpless.
was it not the case in Jadugar? in first 1 hr, you tried your best and did a good comedy but later character had no depth, no dialogue no situation and story was stretched and dragged so what could you do?
Nishabd- for you it was challenging to play such a character but where was the depth in the character? being a good actor you brought wonderful expressions and feelings but where were the situations which could make film a good watch?
First Lolita like stories can look good in reading they never can make a good film. Even Kubrick’s lolita version lacks here and inspite of John Massions presence film lacks.
films are successful when audience may associate with the/any character and RGV tried to focus more on Jia Khan than your character in the film. Her character was not developed properly. why your character shouldlove her character? this had no convincing back up in the plot. it was forced and imposed. There was no natural flow in the story.
we may see in Cheni Kum this flow was there.
If Cheeni Kum also had some sad and depressive feelings of yours shown in Nishabd then CK, could have become a mile stone film in hindi cinema but director remained happy in making a light comedy with a little sad tone with the help of sick girl’s character only.
CK could have made impact like Lost in Translation or Jack Nicholson’s As good as it gets or About Schmidt .
We, your long time fans dont understand this logic of yours that you dont get good offers. You have power to attract good stories.
Great films can be made now at this stage with you as now you dont have to act in formula based films.
You can arrange few films through your own banner ABCL. Your potential is far bigger than what you have used till now because stories and scripts have not used you properly. Your kind of actors can do wonder at this age. You are in a position to affect hindi cinema in new manner.
Is it possible to know how you can be contacted through a distance (from different part of world)?

    with best regards

    Amit ji,

silence is golden. Most big-wigs are advised to maintain their dignity by keeping silent. It works some times but I believe in giving back in the same platter.

Never humiliate anyone, or take initiative to cross the line to enter someone’s personal space but if the other person does this, he needs to be shown the way out. There is always a very polite way of rebounding. For people like you, coming from humble backgrounds, it comes naturally. I have read each n every entry in your blog, and I have to confess that I didn’t find offense in any of your statements. It’s all to do with clarifications and every individual is entitled to do that.

By clarifying your stand, you do not mean ill-will towards anyone. You are simply stating your defense. Although your fans do not need your defense, the people who speak ill of you need to be shut off. By being humble and polite, you are actually taeching them to handle these situations because people who speak bad for others are always spoken of badly by others. (Newtons Law )

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,
It is a treat to read through your blogs especially for the style of writing and the eloquence in which you use the English language. It reminds me of both my father and father in law. I don’t think anyone in the current Indian entertainment industry can match up to you in this regard.

I remember watching one of your interviews with Charlie Rose, it made really proud of the fact that you represented the Indian film industry.

One small suggestion though, if I may, please try to refrain from making any counter comments about articles. To translate one of our proverbs, pelting stone at filth will only splash it back on our face, it is better to ignore it.
I have only recently started following Indian cinema and actors, but you come across as a very well bred person, your language, demeanor speaks volumes about your brought up.

Thanks again for starting the blog…I hope the media will stop all the bad mouthing and cooking up stories about you or anyone else for that matter.

THE INDIAN FILM INDUSTRY, being called ‘bollywood’

I read that you feel “its like abasing the industry”
    [I feel it that way]

Do share what you believe about this [or was it just another media-fib]
Also, If you truly feel that way, Is there something you wished to do to resolve it?

  73. Vishwanath Gupta says:

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,

It seems so unreal to be able to interact with you directly through this platform. To me you are a hero in every sense. It troubles me to see you being put through these cheap publicity stunts. Every tom, dick, and harry thinks he/she can say whatever they want and can get away with it. To an extent you are right in hitting back, probably this is the only language some people understand. Some of your fans may not like it because of the larger than life image you have in our hearts. But the truth is that at the end of the day you are a human and have same feelings as any of us would have if put through similar situation.

I have an amusing incident to tell. I was dicsussing about the state of affairs in India with a colleague of mine here in New York, we both were kind of disappointed with the system, corruption, etc. To me surprise, all of a sudden he says, “Even Amitabh Bachchan is not doing anything.” I was kind of taken aback. I pointed out to him about some of the great work you have done so far like the polio campaign, etc., and that you were not a social servant but rather a human like us. If we have to change something, we have to take responsibility rather than expecting others to do anything.

Another thing that really annoys me is when people talk about the guest list of your son’s marriage. Why in the world would they not understand that it is a totally private thing? Its your every right to invite anybody or nobody. I would do the same if I were in your shoes.

Lastly, I am highly disappointed with the media in India. It has become highly irresponsible, careless, away from truth, and with its own agenda against people like you. Good that you started this blog. If I have to know about anything related to you, I will come here rather than go to any stupid media portal.

We all love you a lot. You and Sachin are the only two role models of the modern day India. The best in their respective fields. Keep up the good work sir and take care.

    Warm regards,

    Vishwanath.

Finally I get to be the FIRST one to write a comment on your post. This is a BIG deal for me, since I’ve been lost in 200+comments that come to your blog.

Coming straight to the point, I think blogging is probably one of the best ways to stand up to your own views, get back at all the allegations. This way, you have your own platform. Yesterday I read a newspaper article (TOI) where some journalist took sections of your blog and made an article out of it (Mr Bachchan reacts!) and today it talks about your injury.

By blogging you are directly interacting with the public, they know what you think and say - nothing ‘filtered’ by the crappy media. And you remain dignified, because you do not fight them on their grounds, i.e. using cheap media and public speeches. You do not bend the system. You just speak out, since just as you said, no one in this country can take that right from you. We are here, to defend that right, on this open platform.

Probably there won’t be a MAJOR shift in the opinion in the media, but it will affect. Slowly, things will get better. At least, you’ll have the satisfaction of fighting back, of knowing that you put the truth out in the open. For those who still believe in the media-politician racket…to hell with them.

Heres wishing you all the best for your health, movies and future blogging!

    Regards

    Dear Amitji,

I envy those you have responded to! Aren’t they lucky as you have made their day?

I think you ought to stop referring to the wedding details now– it has been trivialized far too much. It is your prerogative to decide who to invite and who not to. And in any case, you could only invite only those you could humanly handle!

You famously referred to politics as a cesspool. But inspite of claiming to be out of it, I doubt if you can avoid being sucked into that whirlpool given the nature of your relationships with politicians, especially since it starts at home! Politics is not necessarily a bad thing if it is used to serve the purpose it is meant to do. Sadly politics has simply become a place to acquire power and wield it ceremoniously. I do not like to see you part of this kind of politics. If you use that power to help this country acquire a new direction– yes. But if all it means is mudslinging, just stay away as far as possible.

Can we have an insight into how you prepare for a role— can we for example talk about Nishabd? Ramu’s tale was unusual, didn’t you balk even once before agreeing to be part of this film?
