The day started early as always. Somewhere my father’s words haunt me. He rose early every day and after his morning formalities would set off on his morning walk, waking me up to study. If i dithered he would recite in Sanskrit -
“Suryodaya chya ast maye, chasha enam,
Jahaati lakshmi, rapi chakra vartinam”
Surya uday hone ke baad aur asth hone se pahle, jo insaan sota hai, uski lakshmi chali jaati hai chahe woh chakravarti raja hi kyun na ho.
After the sun has risen and before it sets, the one that sleeps, shall loose all his wealth even if he is a wealthy and devout Raja or King.
It has been something that I have not taken personally or seriously, but because it came from my father there is a desire to respect and inadvertently obey it, without considering its content or its threatened conditions.
Somewhere an adherence to tradition and values. To recognize the thought that has been there through centuries. Just an obedience perhaps towards the elder, leaves one enlightened. In possession of some godly belief and some reverence.
So, early mornings are not deliberate, they just happen. Now perhaps through routine and age. But it still smells of a deliverance of sorts.
Bhoothnath was launching a game show through Zapak.com, my eventual website manufacturers and the people that manage my blog. Children abounded at the meet and the eventual media. Questions and more questions on everything but the film.
Salim Khan, the one half of the powerful writer duo of Salim-Javed fame, Salman’s father, the media says, has made detrimental remarks in the press against me. I wonder. He has been a balanced mature individual and the writer of some of my greatest films - Deewar, Sholay, Kala Pathar. Why would he do that ? I insist that until i read what has been said i cannot comment. The press increases its decibels, he says ‘ you are being ill advised by your advisors’, ‘money for advertisements on UP’, ‘intelligence and language’.
Unable to decipher i tell them my comment will come after i have seen the statement.
Anurag Basu sms’s me and explains his stand and that of the media distorting it or cooking it up entirely. I feel he should seek clarification from the magazine that printed his statement. I do not need any proof. Media asked me a question, I answered. The rest is really up to him to justify or not.
Many amongst you desire that i practice the age old dictum of ‘dignified silence’.
Why is it that when you are silent it is looked upon as being dignified ?
Jaya, justifies my stance of asking Anurag to seek clarification from the magazine or at least to express his remorse through them rather than seek conversation with me.
She fortifies her stand by saying -’This is an age old practice. Abuse in public, apologize in private’. Not acceptable. What is the good of apologizing in private when the public damage has already been done. How does this act repair the bigger.
A dear blogger has a dilema. Her daughter likes ShahRukh, and she me. I want to console her with a fact that is quite universal. During my electioneering in Allahabad in 1984, there were political splits inside one family. The women were voting for me ,the men for my opponent ! But a factor that weighed heavily during my short stint in politics and perhaps became the decider in my decision to withdraw was an incident that occurred in Assam. For the Assembly Elections in that state I was sent to canvass for the party. An error of judgment forced my helicopter to land at the wrong destination. It belonged to the opposition. There was instant physical reaction and the pilot advised we make a hurried exit. As i sat back in the plane, a young student broke the cordon, ran up to me, thrust his fist through the glass window and handed me a piece of paper. It read - “Mr Bachchan, I am a big fan of yours, but I am with the opposite party. Please leave this State, you are making life very difficult for me for I am torn between two desires”.
It was an emotional plea and one that I thought of many times over.
I felt for 25 years I had tried to woo my audience to love me as an artist as an actor. And once I had accomplished that I was now telling them to love my politics as well. Not acceptable to me. It was wrong. I was wrong. I was dividing my audience , my fans. I was asking them to sever a leg from their body and donate it to my party. I could never do that. it was distressing for me and still is. My reticence from politics is ruled and governed by that incident and it is the reason why I shall never ever go in that domain again. I would be unfaithful to myself and to my greatest asset - my well wishers, my fans.
I will not mind losing my domain through indifferent work or sub standard performance, but never through force of will.
In Chennai, i took time out to visit a Hospital that had supplied my blood platelets during my accident on the sets of ‘Coolie’. They now run a cardiac facility for poor children. In my speech i mentioned my faith in the Indian Medical fraternity and them being more proficient than the Western doctors. A message from a blogger has taken objection to my comment on Western doctors. I am not deriding anyone. I am merely saying that despite the fact that I had the means to travel abroad for my treatment I chose to stay in my own country and put my faith in the hands of Indian doctors who I have found to be no less in their acumen from their Western counterpart. This is not to take anything away from the talent and expertise of the foreigner. It is merely an expression of my faith in my own countrymen.
I rest now, with the belief that there is warmth and love in the hearts of millions that write to me and who I attempt to answer in as best a manner as possible -
Wit love -
Namaskar, Satsriakal, Shubba Khair, Shubh Ratri and Good Night

respected Amitji, i think Jayaji is right. there is no use of abuse in public and apology in private. You should now take tough stand. Afterall you are one of the greatest actors our country has produced and how come every ‘ tom, dick and harry’ is targeting you. this is unacceptable. I think these people need a Zinedin Zidane kind of headbutt.

Dear Mr Amitabh,
I have grown up watching your movies. Your rise in life is an inspiration and a example to many as to how one can come up being focused with will power and determination.Unfortunately you have been dragged into so many controversies its creating a negative image making you appear like a villan more than a hero.
You are like sweet jaggery , if you stay in the open flies are going to sit on it. Its wise to keep it inside a container likewise if you are less accessible the more valuable you will remain and less chance for anyone to defame you
Since you are a public figure everyone is going to make use of your strengths and laugh at your weakness. You are stressing your mind and body at the wrong age
I read on the news about what Mr Salim said, and surely somethings could have been avoided if given a thought.
I see you as just another person as i never idolize anyone .I get inspired by people whose thoughts and actions make a differance . I liked the inspiring stories of people who won real hero awards organised by reliance hence and wanted to give you my opinion.
The greatness of a person is how he is remembered after he is gone.
I would be glad to hear from you if at all you read my contents.

Dear Amitabh uncle,
Reading your blog reaffirms my belief - like billions’ others - that it is not at all easy being a celebrity, and that too of your calibre. By God, people do not seem to have anything in their lives worthwhile going on that they keep spending - wasting - time trying to harass you. … First, you have to ‘face’ all those crap and then think of giving suitable ‘explanation’ - with appropriately chosen words! … Can’t people simply be thankful to you for giving all those beautiful moments in their lives in way of superb movies and appearances - and now blogs? … But you need not feel betrayed at all. There are billions out there - outnumbering those handfuls of gossip-mongers - who love and respect you!

Dear Amitji,
Greetings from Los Angeles, California.
I have been your fan over 30 years. I am glad for this opportunity to communicate with you. I hope you get to see my comment.
I grew up watching your films. Since I was 12 years, I was fascinated by your films. Your films in late 70 and 80 were most adorable and had big impact on me. I miss those kinds of films today.
I just want to tell you little story happened to me when your film silsila was released in my town. I wanted to see the film first day first show. I went to cinema hall 5 hours ahead of the show and was 4th in the queue. When booking started there was so much commotion, everybody was trying to get the booking window. But some how I managed to get to the window and about to give the money to booking clerk, one man came over me and bit me so hard that he pulled big port of tissue from my back. I was taken to hospital and treated. It took months to heal that wound. After that incidence my family and friend always criticized me about how much I was crazy about your films.
I wish you could work with Prakash Mehra. Prakash Mehra and Manmohan Desai were very successful in brining great performances from you. Looking forward seeing Sarkar Raj and hope it will be big hit.

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
there’s nothing dignified in silence, nor in speaking up. Dignity is in the person who chooses one or the other for a good reason.
On this day 11 of your blog, I’d like to express my hope that there will be a day 51, 365 and 1001 as well as many more. I have become accustomed to check this site for your messages and thoughts every night, and there’s always new food for thought and new informations from faraway India. It’s a wonderful and invaluable connection, to the millions of whom I am one.
In my opinion, Jaya hit the point spot-on. ‘Abuse in public, apology in private’ should never be acceptable. If there’s disagreement, one should discuss it with ’silence in public and argument in private’. If there has been public abuse, a public apology is called for.
And I applaud your decision on not mixing your popularity as an actor with a political party or office. Still I hope you will always campaign for social or political causes, those as you find important and dear to your heart. That’s neither more nor less than everyone would do, without abusing your authority.
Thank you as always for your thoughts and accounts.
Best wishes from Frankfurt, and good night!
Elisabeth

I remember when you took that five year break in the early ’90’s, for me it was impossible to see anyone fill that gap regardless on how your movies were faring back then, the same is now and always will be. Dear Mr. Bachchan,
Kuch logon ke dil mein aapke liye prem aur aadhar issiliye nahin kyon ki aap ek bahut bade aur kaamyaab artist ho. Shayad issilye ho sakta hai kyon ki aapki vibrations bahut shudh maisoos hotin hai. Aaapke saat jaisa bhi ho, ya aapki sangat jaise bhi ho, aapke andar ek “purity” aur “simplicity” hai jo shayad inn sab cheezon, logon, samasyein, aur parstithion se aapko upar uthadeti hai. Duniya ka kaafi vishaal hissa aapko jaanta hai aur aap pe nazar rakhta hai. Lekin, mujhe aisa lagata hai ke kaheen na kaheen aapki nazar Parmatma ke taraf bahut jaati hai. Aur mai yeh aapke rituals, outward religious appearances dekh kar nahin keh rahee. Yeh baat aapki aankhon se nazar aati hai. Ke aap apni banaaee huee fame/glory (along with family member’s name/fame) ko sambhalne mai lagge hue ho, lekin aapke jukhaav Parmatma ke taraf badraha hai aur aap kissi divine/cosmic/alokik cheez ke talaash mai ho. Bahut log galateean kartein hai; galat nirne letein hain (social, familial, professional, educational, etc.), lekin bahut kam log hain jo apni galation ko ek sadhan banaatein hai apne aap ko upar uthaane ke liye. Aapke liye jo mere mann mai respect aur appreciation hai, yeh issilye hai kyon ki aap ek sanskari insaan ho iss non-sanskari industry mai. Yeh daur kya kya immorality lekar aaya hai aur aage ka daur kya kya moral degradation lekar aaye ga - parantu, aap ki koshish hamesha rahe ghi ke aap apne aap ko dharam ke raaste pe chalaaein. Kyon ki aap bhi yeh baat samajtein hai ke sab kuch nashwar hai. Aap uss “amit” ki, jo kabhi mit ta nahin hai, uss shakti ke talaash mai ho. Shayad. Mai galat bhi ho sakti hun. Lekin, aapki aankhon mai se aisa nazar aata hai.
Though you are larger than life in the eyes of the masses, many of those people do not know what life actually is. Thus, their frame of reference become the stars on celluloid. Once the masses realize the ultimate purpose of their lives and where their energies should be channelized, then they will laugh at their folly for idolizing human beings. However, society, high or low, will run after those who are known by others. Once the masses recognize the abysmal holes within their own beings, they will cease to direct their attention to matters and people that bring them down on the evolutionary ladder of spirituality. I think the entertainment industry thrives on the spiritual ignorance of the masses. Lekin, aapko dekh kar aisa nahin lagata ke aapne logon ke adhyatmic agyaan ka faida utaaya hai. In fact, aapke baaton se aisa lagata hai ke aap gyan baantna chaatein ho. I commend you for that. May God always bless you and guide you to His doorstep of inner realization and self-affirmation that You are His Divine Offspring.
I feel honoured to communicate to you via this medium. This comment may eventually get buried under numerous other comments from your fans or foes. However, if God wills it, you will get a chance to read the above. If anything has been offensive, I do apologize for it.
With respects,
Divya (USA)

Dear Mr Bachan,
why do you need to answer to anyone?
You are not an elected member of the media or any party then why you should answer to anyone?
Silence is golden coz they say Silence speaks a thousand words.
People see you reacting to statements one after another hence you become their target. The more you try to prove yourself the more people will try to prove you wrong.
You have done an immense contribution to the film industry and with all these controversies people have started forgetting.
In your field you have reached the summit and there is nothing for you to prove to anyone.
In a democratic country the one law people abuse to the fullest is freedom of speech ie talk about everyone else except them self from politician to a common man.
wish you a healthy and happy life

“Surya uday hone ke baad aur asth hone se pahle, jo insaan sota hai, uski lakshmi chali jaati hai chahe woh chakravarti raja hi kyun na ho.”
Jin ki duniya main ‘Vijay’ ka sooraj hamesha uday rehta hai woh kabhi nahin sote hain..
I count myself among these..
‘Vijay’ is the index of a ‘destiny’, the name that is linked with ‘Bachchan’ more than any other, a ‘charge’ that continues to be active so many years after the founding of the Bachchan event..
I am fascinated by the extent to which you reveal ‘yourself’ in these blogs more than you ever have by way of the media, perhaps with justification! Of course if one can really read the ’signs’ I think you have equally revealed yourself in your legendary portrayals. It is always an error to think that actors simply enact characters. Only mediocre ones do. Important actors whether on stage or in the cinema give their characters a bit of their souls. A great actor performing Hamlet adds to the canon of Shakespearean performance but he does this by also making Hamlet his own. In every great ‘role’ there is a point at which the margins between actor and character blur.
One of the points that I have forever made in different contexts is that your great roles always have a bit of the Shakespearean dimension to them. I find you unique in this sense in the annals of Hindi cinema. Very few actors since have learned this lesson from you. To be Shakespearean in this sense is to be a bit of a ‘double’, to not just be a character on stage or in films but to be one where the audience can imagine another life for the character outside the ‘frame’ or offstage. This is certainly the ‘truth’ of Shakespearean representation. All important performances on a Shakespearean scale are hence quite enigmatic, much as the great Bard’s characters are. But it is only the rare actor who manages this. I find characters like ‘Vijay’ or ‘Anthony’ or Don (the first one specially is rather impenetrable) and many others you’ve portrayed enigmatic in precisely this Shakespearean sense.
I suspect you will disagree with me about this especially when I add the observation that you far outrank Dilip Kumar (and everyone else in the Bombay constellation) by every measure of ‘acting’ accomplishment. I would defer to you in many matters. Unfortunately I cannot do so in terms of film criticism! I will not press this point too much however as we should all be allowed to cherish our ‘idols’ in the manner we see fit.
I am also struck by the fact that many of your posts reveal a ‘quasi-mystical’ language, at least one that is very ‘Indian’ in some respects. I note the ways in which you ‘value’ tradition. I am somewhat consoled by the fact that you also inevitably quote an important poet like your father in this regard. One always does well to seek guidance from a poet or an ‘unacknowledged legislator’ as Shelley would have it. I am ‘consoled’ because I must confess to being otherwise suspicious of words like ‘tradition’ or ‘elders’ and so forth. So much ‘violence’ has been authorized with names such as these. On the other hand we have the example of Gautama Siddhartha who shunned ‘tradition’ and ‘elders’ to become the ‘Amitabha’ (I have not been going in circles!). But then he did not have a poet as father, just a king. Not every ‘Amitabha’ can be ‘bachchan’ to a poet…

Amit ji, I have read all of your blog entries with interest. Such rare ‘clarity’ (genuineness), ‘cut’ (sharpness), ‘color’ (transparency) and ‘carat’ (impeccable character) makes you the priceless ‘diamond’ (darling) of one and sundry the world over. This is the truth, and nothing but the truth. Your ill-wishers realise this too, but wish to ‘benefit’by slinging mud at you. If only such ‘illiterate’ people realised what they are ‘losing’ instead; they are losing their esteem and gaining nothing! Sir, for every ill-wisher there are thousands of your well-wishers who would stand behind you like a rock in good times and not so good times. Hello , i write to you regarding your belief and usage of Sanskrit Mantras, in my personal experience Chanting Mantras gives energy as you must be knowing i am sure. Sir you should sometimes guide politicians i am sure but being in politics is not your job really.
The teacher stays above ahead and beyond the students, not with them.
You are an accomplished Guru of multiple arts and talents, and a very well-read man, your comment comparing indian/ western doctors had nothing wrong…..the whole dear world runsby for and due to indian souls.
This is the land where knowledge itself took seat in the minds of Rishi-Gurus, and they wrote “Vedas” a long time back.
India was, is and always will be the Guru of the entire humanity and the center of human consciousness on earth.
I agree we have a bunch of problems in our daily life, almost all of us have it..
but we are still universally establishing ourself as a nation , every passing day.
we should try and be better indians every day , because most of the rest of the world is going to hell and we have to save planet earth :)))
not to forget global-warming…..we must first unite as a family-earth before we will be able to repair “our planet earth”.

Hi Sir,
Its good to have someone like you from whom one can take so many lessons of life. I have deep admiration for your sincerity, honesty and of course the list of such words is long….
However, it makes me feel sick to see people of such high caliber and maybe age also fighting over things which seem nothing more than ego problems to me. All these word fights far cross the line of decency that I feel senior people who understand the concept of life well should be within.
Further, throughout your blog I saw that you have been taking help of law to defend yourself. I feel it is the emotions of the people and not the law that has been hurt. The nation is no Law book sitting at the centre. You would agree that nation is about people who share a bond with you which is emotional and not legal/verbose in nature. This is applicable to most of the controversies you have faced.
The blog gives a feeling that you have been following a protocol of behaviour simply because it proves you right. There can be many dimensions of looking at things.
Just an attempt to share thoughts,
Love & Luck,
Binal.

Dear Amitji,
unfortunately my English is not very good, but I hope you will understand me. If I do not express myself well, I would like to apologize in advance.
My name is Carina, I am 29, born on the 16th of October and I am living in Germany- and I am a great fan of you. In fact I think I am your greatest fan in Germany. Perhaps do you remember on me? I wrote you a letter and I sent you a little guardian angel who shall protect you from any harm. I hope you have received my letter and you will read this letter and you will answer me.
I admire and adore you. You are a wonderful person and a fantastic actor. Here in Germany the enthusiasm for Bollywoodfilms is slowly increasing. It is very interesting for me to learn something about India, the people and the culture. My enthusiasm began with the film “K3G”. A really wonderful film, a firework of emotions. And when I saw you I was enchanted. Now Bollywood was in my heart. And you:-)
I love your song “Say Shava Shava”. In this song you are dancing and singing so phenomenal. A really grand song. Is it true that this song was composed by you? And will you produced a CD? I would be happy because you are singing so well! It is great that you are singing many songs in your films. Your deep baritone voice is so wonderful. I know that you shooted more than 160 films. Incredible. My absolute favourites are “Nishabd”, “Baabul”, “Cheeni Kum”, ” Baghban” and “Black”. Especially “Black” and “Nishabd”- two masterpieces! So emotional. Though my English is not very well, I could understand the english subtitles. I see these films with my heart. They have touched me and my soul! I never experienced something like this before. I cannot express it. I was thinking a long time about these two films. I like such films very much. I can understand why “Black” got so many prizes. I love “Black”. A warm, visual overwhelming and heart-moving film. Unfortunately “Nishabd” was not a great success in India. I think it is a great pity because it is laudable to show such a topic. I admire this very much- you are doing the things you believe in and you are convinced of. I think this is really great! I love this film. Your performance in “Nishabd” and “Black” is unique. You are playing with such passion. Unbelievable! I love your versatility. You are playing so many characters. And now a ghost. Is there any role you would like to play absolutely? For me you are like a wine- the older the better. I can see how many fun you have in your job. You really like this job. Especially when you are dancing with your son Abhishek as in “BaB”. It is so sweet. I like your style of dancing. It is so much fun to watch you dancing. Can you remember all the films you shooted?
Do you have a favourite film? In the future I will watch more of your classic films. Can you give me a hint what films I should watch? Is there a film you are proud of? Sorry for my many questions.
I would like so much to meet you one day. I would give everything for this.
To see you only one time live on the stage- that is my greatest dream!
Perhaps this dream will come true. I heard that you are planning a World Tour for 2008. The Unforgettable Tour. Could you give me more informations? I would be so thankful for any details. Unfortunately you will not come to Germany with your Tour. Why not? Here are many many fans of you. Really.
But I hope I will see you in London. I pray that this dream will come true and that you stay healthy. I pray every day for you.
If you have read my mail, I thank you from the bottom of my heart that you have spent your time. I would be so happy if you would answer me. This would be very significant for me. I hope I did not irritate you with my English. If so, I want to apologize for it. I absolutely wanted to tell you that Germany loves you.
For you and your family all the best from the bottom of my heart. Keep healthy and retain shooting so wonderful films in future! I love you and you are forever in my heart. And I love your beard. Please do not shave it !!!!!
Best regards from Germany
Yours
Carina :o) (Big B forever)

This blog has now really started working. Today I saw a news saying Ramgopal Varma has messed up his relationship with Amitabh where Ramu insulted Abhishek in front of everybody in a promotional function of SarkarRaaj (the same one where Abhishek and Aishwarya had been connected through video conferencing). I ridiculed that news as yesterday only Amitji had mentioned about SMS from Ramu which he reached him yesterday itself where he joked about ‘Aag’ setting a benchmark for flops. If I would have the medium to tell the news channel that please stop spreading rumours which would effect the relationship, I would have done on the top of my voice. Infact I would like to tell all the channels that now please no rumours or gossips about Amitji as we NOW KNOW whats happening in his life and around. Thanks bigadda. Take care Amitji! Hows your injury now?

Dear Mr Bachchan,
Namaste, very interesting blog today…i loved this quote told by your father, very inspirational…we miss things like that in our lives today…words, like you say, carrying values and traditions along with them.
Actually i agree with Miss Jaya, yea who abuses in public, should apologize in puplic, or else there is no need to his apology in the first place.
i think it was a great decision leaving politics. I remeber i was talking with my father about you, many years ago, and he told me then Amitabh Bachchan is now a prominent politician in India. At that time i felt proud..cause i thought wow…India Loves Amitabh Bachchan that much…and believes in him that much. But when i get older and get to know more about politics, i get to think that you leaving politics is one of the best decisions, because yea, India loves Amitabh Bachchan and believes in him, but politics is not a good thing, i believe it is a trap.
there is a saying says “if talk is from silver, silence is from gold”. what would be the hardest thing on someone, than ignoring him and what he says. the person who abuses you or talkes in a bad way about you, makes a mistake and shows his true self. Actually he exposes himself to his society. at that time, silence is dignity. those who say you have to leave the industry, it is their opinion. those who think you have done nothing to you community, it is their opinion. you don’t have to justify everything for them. people know who are you,and what have you done. and they love you, without expectations.
i enjoy reading your blogs, cause it takes me to deep releams and get to know more about Mr. Bachchan.; i always believed you are a great human being.
goodnight,
with love,

Love the “surya uday “quotation. Its always the little things and moments ( the time we have spent with our loved ones) that have such profound meaning. Parents teach by example and when children absorb those teachings with such reverence and respect, you know the parents have done a great job.
about Jayaji, You know the women are always right!! You both are on the same page there too.
What you have learned from your parents, the relationship you have with your spouse and what you pass on to your children is what really matters in life . All the money and accomplishments are just a bonus

not fair! even today I wasn’t a part of your blog!! That made me really really upset! That was the childish part of me…please don;t take offense to that…
Yesterday after reading your blog , I was thinking to myself how come Jaya aunty doesn’t get mentioned in your blogs… It seems like you read my mind…. I have deep respect for her and really idolize her….
I am not into politics but yes I agree that it’s best when protagonists don’t support a particular party..cause on one hand I may not agree with the parties ethos but on the other hand be a die hard fan…. what do I do? It’s best not to sway the mind…
When does your world tour commence and I am hoping that you have Chicago in your list cause what makes me upset is that though this a very beautiful city but yet none from our film world have showcased this city….
Keeping my hopes high … someday I hope you respond to me….
Thank you

Fans tend to like one artist over others, which is common, but it won’t be unfortunate so long as other artists are not looked down at. I think when you like an artist, you tend to follow everything your favourite star has participated in, in my case, reading his blog in the middle of night.

Dear Amit-ji,
I am one among your millions of fans worldwide. Your every post / blog increases my respect for you. My dad is already a huge fan of your humility (and not of the “angry young man” :-)) and awaits your sexagenarian roles with bated breath.
You may not be the greatest actor around, but the way you have conducted yourself in public and in private speaks volumes of your equanimity of mind and intellect. Moreover, it is said that kids are a reflection of their parents. My best wishes to Abhishek and Shweta, and heart-felt wishes to yourself and Jaya-ji from my parents.
I can’t believe my voice will actually be heard by Amit-ji (or his team)!! Skeptics ask me how am I so sure it is indeed Amit-ji writing all those blogs?? Well, it only comes down to one’s belief. Internet is an extremely misleading medium to gain any sort of reliable information. But going through your posts, it does seem like no one but you (or some team member close enough to you) is the writer.
Here’s wishing you lots of varied and exciting roles in films to come, and to live life on your terms and conditions (within the 3 Cs) with health and prosperity,
Vivek Vasudevan

The whole Fan fraternity knows….. including so called storng rivals ….that AB is ….. AB……. and no one can add any C (Crisis ) to it. “Hard Core Fact”.
I can understand Jaya ji’s emotions for her husband… any loyal indian wife would do the same…. Dear Jaya Ji !!!! believe me !!!! no one can shatter the image of Amitabh Sir !!!! he has a “Midas Touch” in his acting and thougths…. so please keep cool !!!!

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
I can’t believe that I am actually writing to you. I am amongst those who feel its silly to be one of those crazy fans. But nevertheless I am still writing and feeling excited as well for being the first one to comment to your post. There are a few points that I want to make:
That I have immense respect for you, for the way you maintain your public image, for the efforts you put in to give the best to your viewers always. I love your work and sometimes feel that time should stop for you, you should keep giving us movies like Sarkar, Cheeni Kum and Black. You should not grow old, we need greats like you.
There is something else that bothers me as well. I am studying since almost an year now, and I still wonder that bollywood being the biggest fil industry in the world, why is it that our actors are not world wide known. Hardly people know the names of any of bollywood actors, while everybody invariably in the world know of Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise. Why don’t we consciously put in efforts to make bollywood world famous. Our actors do no less hard work than them, so why don’t they get international fame (this does not mean they should necessarily do hollywood films). Why not make bolllywood cinema really popular world wide. With this new interest in India due to 9% growth, I want this should be the biggest agenda.
Well, I am a movie freak and enjoy good films. I would be most happy to see that people from Bollywood are as well known as their Hollywood counterparts. Let each one of us do our bit to add to the recently earned glory of India.
I wish you great health and warm regards,
Niedhie

I have had a problem concerning silence also. When I was a kid, and extremely shy, it was brought to my attention by my mother that a fellow student thought I was a snob. I still have problems with shyness and consider myself a loner. Outside of work, about 99 percent of my time is spent alone even in a crowd. Thank you for this blog because, pathetic as it sounds, I feel as though I have a friend to talk to even though I obviously don’t know you personally. After I click on “submit comment”, I don’t feel so alone anymore. Enough of the violin music.
Right now I’m in the middle of the Tribeca Film Festival. Three films down, two to go for today, my busiest day. My two favorite films so far are the documentary “Donkey In Lahore” and the animated film “Sita Sings the Blues”.
Last night I watched the last part of Hindi News which I recorded from Zee TV. I enjoyed seeing the scenes from Bhootnah. I wish I knew Hindi because I have the South Asian package. I record the films from Zee TV because they always have subtitles. I was going to a Hindi conversation meetup group, but there hasn’t been a lesson in a while. I have a book but it is hard not having someone with which to practice.(Is that grammar right?) A while ago I watched six tapes of KBC 2 without subtitles and was extremely frustrated because I could not understand what you were saying at the start of each show when the audience would laugh and applaud.
Well, I have to give my tired eyes a rest before the next film.

Dear Amitabh Ji,
I have been reading your blogs in regular interval. it looks interesting. I appretiate for your decision, atleast now electronic media in India will stop all false gossips. you really look a person very down to earth, your words are as like a common man, your problems seems to be same as of a common man and the way you explain is really good. I know actors are also a common man and women but not all actor understand this because they have special category of being said stars. They lack ground reality of country like India.
Not many actors from hindi film industry or hollywood looks to be natural, they try lot but they fail, because they lack reality.
it seems you are the peron who knows ground reality. great gesture from your side.
good luck in your life and films…!

Hello Sir,
Once again I thank you for your blog. Having lived in Egypt for 10 years (I’m Africian American Born and raised in the US) I applaud you for staying in your country and putting yourself in the hands of the doctors of your country. Somehow we have been deceived to believe that the west has the best to offer. I love my country I truly do but I do not beleive we have the best of everything to offer. When I lived in Egypt with my family I found it to be a great country and many of the doctors who I encountered were as competant or more so as any I would find in my own country.
I do have a question though….totally different subject..Why are some Indian and Arabic words similar. As I watch several of the Indian movies I noticed that several works are similar or have similar meaning. (ex. the work enough in Arabic Bes or Bas!) If you answer fine if not that’s fine too. Just curious…

Mr. Bachchan,
It appears that Salim Khan’s irritation stems from the fact that he and his family were not invited to Abhishek’s wedding.
Being as how Salman abused Aishwarya during their relationship, Mr. Khan should have understood the awkward position you were put in. It is totally understandable that you wouldn’t want Aishwarya to feel uncomfortable at her own wedding!
If Salim Khan fails to comprehend why you’d make such a reasonable decision, do not let it concern you. You can’t make everyone happy, and you did the right thing by putting your daughter-in-law’s interests above Salim Khans.
Best,
Khan

Mr. Big B…I was watching Mrs. Doubtfire on TV with my 7 years old daughters Lara & Vara (who are twins and despite being growing up in USA they love to watch your movies and they are waiting for Sarkar Raj just for you and Abhishek) and just then they showed the clip of Salman Khan’s dad saying thing about you.
I feel bad for them and not you. WHY? Just becasue they must be envy of you. You are doing great and god bless you. You are the example I give my dad. I want him to be active, do what he loves to do and keep himself busy. There should be no age for retirement.
If people talk about you in that way then sorry for them. As for Salim Khan..he should focus on his career rather than commenting on others. He should give a deep look in himself and see where the otehr co-writer of Sholay Mr. Javed Akhtar is. He should pick his pen and write something worthwhile.
I guess what Jaya ji says is correct there should be no excuse for “abusing in public and apologizing in private”. This shows that they do this only to get the publicity which normally they do not get.
I wonder how you cope with all that…get up in morning wondering what they have written about me in the paper today.

Since coming onto this amazing site to which I’m so grateful you have created, I have been fascinated with your father’s beautiful poetry.
and I thought I would write a short one for you.
As a statue I stand alone,
Under golden lights,

But not bigger than my own heart.
Its just my way of saying thank you for having such a big heart!:)

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
It is really a tremendous experience to read your blog and to feel the fact that you are writing for us. Your words, expressions and clarification of several remarks reflects your dignity and humble nature. But tell me truely, how can you sound so polite and humble, when you find your fellow collegue throwing nasty beans on you for no reason. I agree in public and in front of the pleamorphic indian media you need to be politically correct all the time. But dont you get angry and shock while reading these remarks. It is now a daily affair to get response from some tom, dick or harry against you.
Sometimes I wonder what could be the reason for all these. Politics, success, image or for not being invited for the Abhi-Ash marriage. The situation reminds me of the “Nayak”, a film by the great Satyajit Ray.
Keep going Amitji,
God bless you

Dear Amitji,

I had written you the below reply on day 8 of your blog, but am writing again as you haven’t replied to any of my queries. Please be kind enough to reply some of them. Thanks, Kind regards - Anand Sachdev
p.s you are and will always be my inspiration.
—
You are a very straight person, who tries very hard to be as simple as one can. You like to defy only when someone has pin pointed or questioned your Integrity. These days with the help of this blog space, you are answering all questions , small and big. Great Going.
As per answer to what you have mentioned above, I think you should try to understand that anything that you say, or do becomes a BIG thing. Even though you do not acknowledge that you are BIG (due to your humble nature).
But what about those people who like you more than they like themselves. Those people who respect you more than anyone else in the whole world. There are thousands like me who get hurt when somebody pin points at you say on a farmer case, tax related case or such related cases.
Please, you need to be very careful because by what you are saying or doing - media is already watching you. When you say anything and it becomes a Statement.
Anyways, I will keep talking to you on this blog. I’m in New York and I read this blog every morning to get some inspiring message from you. And then I go to office with the message of the day.
I have some questions for you, it would be very kind of you if you could take some time and answer these. Some of the below question I have preserved in my mind since years and I used to think, that I will ask you someday, but never knew how and when.
Through this Blog thankfully you can answer such millions of queries from your fans.
1. Celebrities like to meet (or prefer to meet) a fan whose crazy, doing the craziest things like maybe coming all the way walking from a village, or maybe coming up with an photo album of all your old movies collection or doing something that is wierd, a simple, rational thinker won’t do. They will not like to meet ordinary guys. Is it the fault, of a rational thinker that he’s your fan and still thinks and behaves in a rational manner, and in a responsibile manner. Not doing anything crazy to attract attention.
2.Are you in touch with your old pals like Shashi Kapoor, Pran etc. How about Prakash Mehra, who gave your first Super Hit ?
3. Why have you kept a thick and white milky beard these days, I think, you are looking even older than you actually are. Frankly, the trimmed white looks better on you.
4. Why don’t you slow down, many top actors are doing fewer movies, maybe just 1 or 2 a year.
5. Nishabd and ChiniKum were good, but playing an uncle Sam or a Gabbar(Babban), c’mon what was the need ?
6. How do you feel when constantly being compared to actors since decades from Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna to the recent Rajnikant and SRK.
I personally feel you are higher, much higher than all actors, thats why you ARE. What do you say ?
7. I think I’m lucky to be born in a Century when you ARE. Sometimes I wonder if you are God or an Avataar…I’m not kidding, you really have many attributes.
8. When you write a blog, I have observed you write ‘I’ as a small letter, normally ‘I’ should never be ‘i’, any specific reason for you to keep it small ?
9. Like you I’m a shy guy, and can never ever dance on a floor. How did you overcome your shyness ?
10. Will this be published and replied ?
Thanks for reading. You can cancel any question you may not want to answer, but please answer some of the queries.
Thanks & Have a Great Day,
Get well soooon.

My question does not end at Gandhi family but why is your relations with everyone getting spoil? Sharthugan Sinha, the great actor and a great friend of you in past, SRK, Raj Thakare. I can understand Raj Thakare because that entire episode is to get political millage but not for others, I don’t think they need to do that. And I read a new name added to the list, legendary film writer and a great friend who had boosted your carear with the help of his stories in past turned against you. Why sir why?

SirG,
Your impeccable intelligence and your wisdom both by following your father’s will and also practicing by self have jelled together and must have formed a SURAKSHA CHAKRA of sorts. Above that a TADKA of the profession you follow and having a life partner like JayaG, facing the media for more than 30 years now has transformed into a SURAKSHA KAVACH.
I firmly support the belief now is the time to test the KAVACH, and take them head on. HALLA BOL as we say. Let there be WAR for PEACE. WAR of WORDS, WAR of sheltering and protecting the DIGNIFIED SILENCE.
I just want to refer the MAHABHARATA here the war was not for land or power the war was putting the records straight. WAR for a purpose to protect our personal rights so that the next generation and the next has a path to follow.
Nobody is as qualified and well informed and complete to give or suggest any advice to you or GYAN. Its just we are trying to raise a voice with your voice and only because you choose to make us feel important to you. A quality that CHACHA NEHRU had and followed as read by me in school books when he used to go and meet out people all over INDIA. Your self crowned CHELA. Great. Amit jee don’t you think don’t you think it will be too much for you to write like this daily?
Your experience with life is certainly something great to hear from the horse’s mouth.
Somewhere I feel Amitabh is Amitabh and not someone who needs to give justification to anyone. He needs not to prove to anyone that he is not wrong in any controversy.
This world knows the humbleness of a dignified family you belongs. Harivansh, Teji, Amitabh, Jaya and now Abhishek and Aishwarya what else someone can expect from a family where each individual in itself is a gem of a person.
You have always been dragged into the controversies and the reason being is your immense popularity in India and an easy target for the others.
I respect Amar Singh ji and his relationship with you as a brother and friend but one thing probably frankly makes all your fans feel bad are the remarks and/or statements from Amar ji on behalf of you. I agree as a strong support to you he has all right to do so but since Amar Singh ji is a political figure, his stature comes in front of people than the relationship with you. Moreover his statements/remarks sound more political than in your support.
One fact is whether we do like Amar Singh ji statements on behalf of you or not, we would always respect you as a dignified person, great actor of all time and a living legend who deserves no comparison.

Dear Amitji,
Politics is a game of divide and rule. And just as in films where you may admire one actor and it doesn’t stop you from loving another; perhaps in politics we need to separate the individual from the party. No party is perfect. And neither are any of their political strategies. So while we choose people to govern us, I believe that the only way out for the public is to select representatives who are capable and own a conscience which speaks—- irrespective of their political affiliations. Maybe, just maybe, we will be able to select able people instead of political foxes.

Dear Amitji,
Wish you will not respond to Salim or any of those statements against you. Not because it makes you look ‘dignified’. But because your speaking out gives weightage to such inane comments. Don’t react via your blog because those comments are not worth reacting to.
But still, as you would advise Abhishek, read everything your critics say, for if there is an iota of truth in what they say, you yourself will know where you need to change.

Dear Sir,
I currently live in USA and going through medical school, your comments about Indian doctors make me proud. I work with many Indian medical graduates who never cease to impress everyone with their knowledge and tireless work ethic. It is satisfying to see people from the upper strata of society supporting Indian graduates…in spite of the advancements in India…..India still faces Brain drain because of numerous reasons…I constantly watch on Indian news how Indian doctors are treated badly by the administrations….AIIMS doctors protesting….ramados not signing the degress….low salary for government doctors…and numerous other reasons lead to our brightest leaving the country. I commend your faith in Indian doctors and in the Indian educational system. Please convey my above concerns to Mrs. Jaya Bachchan…hopefully she can bring this matter to Rajya Sabha for further debate.

Amit ji:
Just started reading your article. Both me and my wife are big fans of yours, since our school days in India. We are now settled in NJ, USA - news of this blog was a great pleasure. We are Bengalis from Calcutta - so as you know, apni amadaer JamaiBabu !!!! Also in passing, would like to mention that I also studied your father’s poems in our Hindi classes for Std 11-12 (Maulana Azad College, Calcutta).
Hope to keep sharing our thoughts with you…

Dear Sir,
What you did in case of Mr. Basu was absolutely right! I completely agree with what Mrs. Jaya ji said. This is dignified silence. Silence doen’t necessarily mean loss of voice. For example the great Mahatma advised Ahimsa but not ‘in-action’. So, I repeat maintain dignified silence but do not let your voice go un-noticed!
Oh one complaint! Somehow my comments always end up in the moderation mode and never end up posting on time! I hope you do get a chance to read them. Expecting you to reply to each and every message is what I would say as ‘anyAyam’ on you. But, somewhere deep inside, I do ‘hope’ that you end up reading my message!! Can’t let go of that hope!!
More to write to you as you keep blogging. Wishing the best for you and your family!
Sincere Regards,
Sarang-

I’m just curious if you type using all fingers or just a finger of each hand like perhaps most people of your age do. Are you a fast typist or a slow one?
Idle curiousity.

Mr. Bachchan,
I have been reading your blog from day one and have resisted in writing any comments to you so far. Just the thought that whatever I write online on this blog, you may actually be reading it is just unreal. It also somehow made me more conscious to write something which should be perfect. But today I just thought to write something to you and I don’t want it be perfect….so here it is..
I have been a big fan of you all my life… Beside your movies which I watch no matter how bad it had fared at the box office, I am very very selective in watching other movies no matter how big hit, good or universally accepted movies it might have been… and now I am a big fan of Abhishek too. I have watched all his moves too. I see all ingredients of success in him like you and he too will rule the Hindi movies for a long time. The case in point is Guru; I don’t think some of his contemporaries who are given more importance and are considered more successful by media would have carried the role like he did.
I still remember the day when I had watched my first full Hindi movie(Adaalat) in theater in 1977, I was 10 year old. It was different in those days when a new movie used to release in Bombay, and it used to take months before we were able to watch the same movie in smaller towns. Now days the movies are released throughout the world on same Friday and in couple of weeks or less a film becomes hit or flop.
Since you started your blog it is strange that all sorts of people are making some outrageous statements about you and to me it seems more of a case of getting mileage in media by riding on your shoulder. I would have never read or watched the interview of Anurag Basu if it would have not been because of his statement about you and what followed after that and same is the case with Shatrughan’s comments. I am sure there are millions more like me who would have done same… I was of the opinion that you should have not reacted to them and should have kept ‘dignified’ silence but I read your point and I agree that you should put them to where they belong and not allow them to take you for a ride like this and hopefully this will prevent or at least give some warning to similar other characters who will be more careful before opening their mouth.
I just watched the 2 min trailer of Sarkar Raj on one of the website and it is looking very promising. I am eagerly waiting for this movie.
The one thing I would like to see you in is a big international movie. I have read that you will be doing a movie with Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta. I hope that happens soon as it will given you even more exposure in the world and it will also give a chance to those who don’t watch hindi moves to watch one of the best actor in the world in these movie. I have let my American colleagues borrow my DVD of Black at my work and they just could not believe how good you were in that movie. The one other movie they like was Khakee.
I hope to see more good movies of yours and waiting for your BEST ever movie to come. The one thing which keeps an artist going is the thought that his next work is going to be his best or his best is yet to come…

Dear Mr Bachchan,
The more I read you, the more I am impressed. This is not to say that I was not impressed earlier. I think you are a great man and a learned one at that, a rare combination.
I agree with you that dignified silence does not mean anything. One must clarify one’s opinions, in the light of others who may deride us. Being silent does not add to one’s stature sometimes. However, sometimes if one wrestles with mud, then one’s own clothes will also be muddied.
Last time I was in Bombay I stayed at Juhu and in my morning walk I would walk past your home. Some policemen would sit idly outside. I would walk past silently and salute you and your family.
Reading your views, I can imagine the wonderful upbringing your son has got and the wonderful father that you are to your bahu. Next time I will salute you again from outside your home. May your detractors keep crying!
With regards, Dinesh Kumar, Chandigarh

Dear sir,
It is only since the past 2 days that I have begun reading your blog. However, I must say that I am deeply touched with all that I have read.
I must learn from you, how to be professional and how not to mix personal and private aspects of life.
Sir, since yesterday, I have posted three comments, including this one but yet they are awaiting moderation. In fact, shockingly, there are no comments on your blog entry for day 10!!! Do your blog moderators take a holiday on sunday?
Anyway, sir, whether my comments are posted or not and whether they get your attention or not, I shall continue to post comments on your blog.
Have a great day.
More power to you.

hallo sir,
i am one among the billions of fans of yours,i was just reading your quotes on 11th day blog reg ur stint in politics.i understand ur position of not returning to this field , but pls advise one thing u are quite well aware of the state our politics is in, dont u think that a level headed person like u can make a difference, do u think we need politicians who just believe in changing the name of states, cities, railway stations and airports and thinking that by doing that they stamp their authority on it and at the same time not doing one bit to improve the infrastructure of those places( egs like victoria terminus to cst, bombay to mumbai etc ) , or the people who just to get some political milleage they drag ur name in to their stupid and pathetic policies of getting north indians out of bombay , for marathi manus etc, they fail to understand that we are all indians 1st then marathi or punjabi etc .

I saw u the other day at the press meet talking to ur bahu and son via telephone conference and u were really rude to one of the cameramen shooing him away as though he were some piece of shit. sorry but thats not something which endeares u to ur fans atleast not me.

Hi Bachchan ji,
I have been a fan of you for such a long time. I always wanted to ask you about you hair. Are you bald? And hiding your baldness with a wig all these years. I had read somewhere that its a closely guarded secret and you don’t allow anybody to enter your makeup van. And also you had threatened star plus of quitting KBC if they aired an interview where there was reference to your baldness.
I think its ok for you to wear a wig in your films if the character you play demands it. But in real life why do you need to hide your true reality. If the reason is due to the fear of losing fan following, then I should assure you that you will get many more admirers. Take for example Rajnikant. He has a great fan following even though he looks pretty odd.

I’ve stated this before and there is no harm in restating it. I believe that there is no dignity in silence, always. If one is to defend themselves against slander how could it be done in silence? Dignity comes not with inaction but with acting right and that’s that.
I think after the whole “Amitabh says Tashan is a flop” headline run by Headlines Today and Aaj Tak, I am no longer going to be watching those tabloid channels. Majority of the news is received online anyways so what is the point of these 24 hr news channels? Doordarshan with their 30 min coverage did far more than what these “tabloids” can ever claim to. Their so-called EXPOSE’ appear half-baked and biased. And that’s that.

TO ANSWER EVERY CRITIC WOULD BE DIFFICULT AND CAUSE UNPLEASANT WORDS TO BE UTTERED ..SOMETIMES WHEN THE MEDIA REPORTS ARE EXAGGERATED OR FALSE..SO A DIGNIFIED SILENCE WOULD BE BETTER UNLESS THERE IS A DIRECT QUESTION ABOUT SOMETHING OR A REALLY SHOCKING ALLEGATION…AGGRESSION IS NOT EXPECTED (OR ADMIRED) FROM OUR IDOLS….

As you mentioned here, that your father used to wake you up in the morning,i have a similar experience…Iam a muslim, our hose is near to Masjid and when is the for morning prayer my father would repeat the words of the call of prayer saying Assalathu hairum minanvaum..means Praying to GOD is greatest than sleeping….

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
I am a big fan of yours and am told I have pretty much modeled my personality on your persona. I now live in New York City and work with one of the leading Management Consulting firms - you remain one of my closest connections with my past and India.
Please dont let people like Anurag Basu or Salim Khan make you react - one is a cry baby while the other is a spent force. They gain limelight only when they speak for/against you.
I hope I am able to meet with you someday. I do look forward to that day.
Best regards,

Hello Ami Uncle,
Ibnlive.com The cnn of india printed an article regarding you today, it states that you said today that you will never work with Ram Gopal verma because what happened with Aag. But you are working with him in Sarkar Raj.
Im a Little confused as to what the article is saying. The Article also talks about the Salim Khan story. And you are right everyone had freedom to express.

Dear Sir: I have been reading your blogs with interest. Coming from a media background with over two decades of exposure, I feel that you have made two very valid points in your signed article in today’s Times of India (I read it today in the Bangalore edition). For starters, why do we believe that movie stars are worthy of hero worship? They are doing a job just as the rest of us are and the key to their job is making us believe what we see on celluloid. Similarly, I feel the media has no business to intrude into your innermost thoughts and feelings which are your very own. Whom you invite to a wedding and who are left out are pretty much your own concern and should have been so. I think in today’s age of TRP ratings (for TV), page views for the internet media (of which I am a part as Managing Editor of MSN India portal) and exclusivity for newspapers, the media is out to create stories. Reminds one of The Almighty, though the modern day media baron doesn’t kill people, he intrudes into areas where he has no business to be as do his readers. The only way around this is to do what you had done many years ago… go off air and do what you are best at. Having been a fan of yours for three decades, I know there are any amount of us in this country who’d prefer to associate with you on screen and not off it. So, dear Don, just do what your character said in the move…Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin, namumkin hai!
