DAY 32 carried a comment from Abhishek and this still from Sarkar Raj seems to epitomise all that I had to say or indeed what he had to say sitting in that lounge waiting to catch that flight. Its a moment of truth in the film, a moment that father and son reckon with given the realisation of sudden circumstances that occur. Its a moment that defines the course that each have to contend with.
Shot entirely in close ups, a forte with Ram Gopal Varma, it is a single shot through a circular trolley movement. Once over Abhishek’s shoulder and then over mine. Formal editing patterns or let us say conservative editing patterns never allow shots to be cut when camera is in movement. But this one has been done exactly opposite of that theory.

An important moment of decision between Subhash Nagre and Shankar his son. A decision that could have severe political repercussions. The intention is common to both, its execution perhaps different. Its the son exerting his desire to take responsibility for the future, politely putting it across the maturity of the father’s reasoning -

The benevolent Subhash Nagre at his birthday celebrations, in the background. The burden of responsibility on my shoulder Shankar in the foreground. Its business as usual -

A hard nosed business lady from overseas and the dawning of the harsh and intriguing environment she now finds herself in -

The angry realities of difficult decisions; sometimes hitting too personally -

……and the strains of nature attempting to wash it all away -

Deceit, unfaithfulness -

Life.. is a struggle always as long as it exists -

..and the determination of support and fulfillment

Great. This BLOG is getting more and more exciting by the day. You now have your own medium to reach out directly. Glad to see you are getting the media at their own game. I can imagine the small minds of the newspaper and magazine ‘mafia’ going in overdrive wondering what to do. There is little they can do but cringe with resentment. Keep it up.

dear sir,
thank you for the stills from sarkar raj 2.i hope it will be better than the first one , a tough ask…….. but not too tough considering all those who are involved in this movie.i am certain you will give us another memorable performance …….. .it will be interesting to see abhi-ash after guru. like always aishwarya rai bachan continues to look beautiful, one of the most underrated actresses of the day. people are too much bothered about her beauty to consider anything else, i have seen irruvar, a long time ago, and it was a great performance from a debutant… bas woh din hai aur aaj ka din.abhishek seems to be defying the laws of nature. children of exttordinary talents /geniuses tend to be below average or at best average individuals, but look at your son he has made the none too enviable choice of entering films and has proved to be worthy of being your son(i mean purely as an actor).his intense performances area delight for the audiences.
i am eagerly looking forward to this movie …… it is proving to be a great summer, first bhoothnath, then summer rain in delhi, and now sarkar raj 2, this world is surely becoming a better place.
unbelievable but true HTactually praised abhi-ash at cannes.

Hi,
Looking forward to Sarkar Raj……………
I hope that your decsion, persistence and favour to RGV pays off, as he has simply fallen into the pits for reasons unknown to me. If you are doing these movies with RGV because of the “jaban” that you must have given him then the only thing that I can say is that my respect for you has grown ten fold, as a man should live for his principles, but if it is not about any commitments then I will pray for the success of “SARKAR RAJ”.
The stills from the movie are interesting and encouraging for a must watch.
I was reading one of the responses to your blog’s and somebody mentioned about you coming up with the phrase “chen kuli ki…………..”. Amazing stuff that one. We(the expat community) even use it to spur on the Indian cricketers during their games here in South Africa and beleive me it works, Zaheer always gets a wicket the next ball.
Cheers and bye for now.

Simply Fantastic. Its an understatement to say that you have a very super-imposing (if i am allowed to use that word!) screen presence! ” Life…is a struggle always as long as it exists” Thats a statement conveying ineluctable reality arising out, i guess, from your own personal experience. We look forward to hear more of such lines containing words that are close to your heart and that have the power to profoundly affect multitudes. Hats off to you Sarkar.

Dear Amit Ji,

I think now you have listened to the complaints made by people like me who were unhappy reading stories about criticism and the answers for the criticism.
A blog is a written medium where you are free to express your feelings.
You have immense power in your writing and being a personality like you who is admired by so many , you have the power to influence many of the young minds.
You have made me happy by writing about your school /college days and sharing the lessons of your life. This is what I expect of you, Use this medium for adding value to the lives of many people who love you and will listen to you.
In your own words of wisdom , share the struggles that you faced and how you had the courage to overcome them all.
I think there are also a lot many youngsters who want to be actors/ performers etc. Would be great if you could share some practical tips about how they can achieve their dreams in today’s world.
In today’s times people/media focuses more on the wealth and the current controversies of the rich and famous people and neglect the times when they struggled to be where they are today.
Please share with us all the feelings that you had when you were facing the most troublesome periods of your life like entering into films , facing accident/health issues, problems in business/politics and what made you conquer them.
On a personal note , I did manage to catch a glimpse of you while you were moving from the Hotel Martinez to the cannes festival. I kept following your car.
Your waving at me twice and your gentle smile made my day
Could not get your autograph though
Wishing u good health always.
Pooja.

a beautiful coincidence that you should write on lauguage while you are on a private visit to cannes, in the same country that gave the world michel foucault. and the beautiful/ poetic blog comes in the same period as the rest of your blogs on media…..or more appropriately the absue of media power.lauguage -power discourse. perhaps there is a consciousness to places, that we are only dimly aware of but which nevertheles influence us.perhaps , perhaps….

Hi Amitabh
Kudos to you on hinging on to RGV even after the Aag debacle.
RGV is one great artiste; a filmmaker who has created a whole genre by himself. May be not created it, but given credence to the genre in a perfect manner (Satya, Company, Sarkar)
RGV might end up a pauper when he’s done (Hope not though). But he would have given the industry such wonderful movies that his life would be worth it. By then his movies would be benchmarks for aspiring movie makers. He comes across to me like Howard Roark of Fountainhead. In the meanwhile, anticipating Sarkar Raj….

I would like to know how would a father and a son react to circumstances when both of them have same motive behind an action but a different path?
How do you avoid or neglect the clash of personality which happens between two successful professionals. Sure, you can’t agree on all the issues and differences are bound to be there. How would you handle such a situation?

Dear Mr. Bachan,
This is the first time i am visiting your blog.First of all i want to request you to please read my full entry, it might be little big but i will be highly obliged if you read the full of it. i just came to know about this yesterday sir from ZOOM TV. First of all i think i should give brief introduction of mine. My name is Mohammad and i m from Pakistan (live in Lahore), 27 yrs old.
I have been your die hard fan since i came into my senses or you can say since the day i was born :)(smile). i remember when i was child around 6 or 7 years old i used to stand infront of mirror and act like you the way you did in your various films e.g. sharabi, sattay pe satta, hum and so many of them. You have been my God father and i always wanted to be Amitabh Bachan.
You know Sir, i belong to a family of writers. My dad is a quite famous urdu writer and so is my grand mother. My brought took place in the hands of famous poets and writers of Pakistan like Jon Alia, Enver Sajjad etc. And whenever these famous people used to ask me that what do you want to be in future i used to say Amitabh Bachan. Even in my school i always used to say the same. But my destiny was somewhere else i guess.
Sir, you won’t beleive that i am always scared of onething in my heart everyday i.e. what if i die without meeting the great great Amitabh Bachan? So many times i tried to come to India just to meet you but i guess God was not ready for that. Once i was on Frankfurt airport n there was some of my indian friends with me as i was working for Lufthansa Airlines and we all were on training in Frankfurt, on that day at the airport there was a rumor that Mr. Amitabh Bachan is inside the airport lounge and he will be coming out any moment. I stayed there for 7 hours just to wait that you will come out and finally i would be able to meet you. But that was a rumor.
I wish someday i meet you or you visit our country Pakistan, where i can guarantee people loves you the same way they do in India or may be more than that. I wish one day i would be able to hand shake you but i don’t know when will that day come?
I have so many things to say. But i know this is getting quite long and knowing that this is not the last time i am writing to you, so i leave few things on my next entry. I promise that i will become your regular blog visitor and will try to write you daily or every other day so you don’t get fed up of me :)(Smile). I never thought a day will come when i would be able to contact you direcly and i think this BIGADDA people for making it possible.
I hope to see a reply from you and trust me if you will reply me back that would be a happiest day of my life and i might die because of happiness Sir. But i request you to please please reply me back.
In the end wishing you a very health and looooonnnnng life.
Warm regards,
Mohammad

it’s so bad here in Egypt, that they are not interested that much in the Indian Movies and there is no market for it here too… and I struggle so much to know your news or get movies for you…
Any way, I know that you are the King and Legend Actor and for sure all your movies will be successful…
I wish I could here from you soon … or contact you directly .
God bless you always and please take good care of yourself..

Gosh Sir,
What a DEFINING MOMENT -
in that ONE SHOT!!!
Can somewhat imagine what the circular movement of the camera must have done! The scene would certainly have come out touching…
I am sure you’d have enacted the scene equally well with any other actor, but for Abhi, it would have mattered that he did it with you…. I mean maybe he’d found it more difficult with you, but his emotions would have come out real.
If I am imagining it correctly, then this scene would be one of the MOST DEFINING MOMENTS OF INDIAN CINEMA…!

Dearest Mr.Bachchan
Actually I was going to post or mail this letter, but now since you have your own blog there can be nothing better than putting it right here. I desperately hope you read it once. I will keep this posting untill you read it.
Dear Sir,
I know that this must be a very routine letter, as you may have received thousands of them all these years & it may be not possible to read each of them. But if you read my letter once then I will consider myself fortunate enough. When I was a child you were just a favourite film star for me, but after growing up I have started admiring you as a very good human being & a responsible citizen of our country.
I had heard in a film that “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility” & even though I am too small to comment on this I would still say without hesitation that you have used your powers in the right way. The power which god has bestowed upon you by giving fame in the entire world, by making you the star of the Millennium & also in the form of fans who love you so much & pray for your well being everyday. It’s no wonder that people consider you next to god.
I was very small somewhere around 3-4 yrs old when I started seeing your movies & my birthday gift used to be your movie without which I would feel incomplete every year. Today I am 32 yrs old & believe me my liking for you has gone far beyond a movie star. I have the highest level of respect for you & I always feel inspired by you to keep a smiling face while there may be a lot of pain within.
I have always wished that there should have been some kind of relation with you (Family or Friends) so that at least I could have had the opportunity of meeting you once in a while. It is my dream to meet you personally & sit with you for a while, but when I got a chance recently I could not utter a word before you.
I came to film city on the 3rd of Dec on the set of Alladin with my wife & 3 friends. We shook hands with you & got a photograph too which I was dying to have all these years, but I am so much in awe of you that I couldn’t utter a single word. I have seen you many times before at hotels, KBC (as a Spectator), but was never been able to get so close to you as I got at film city. I feel so proud when I look at my photo standing next to you. Also it gives me a high, thinking that I have a photo with one of the most Charismatic & Powerful Personality of the world.
Actually we were supposed to meet you on the 10th of Oct, so I had made a Birthday card for you, but since we came much later, I gave that card to one of your staff member when we came to film city. I hope you must have seen it.
I wish that you & your family may have a long, happy life with all the success & joy.

DEAR SIR,
Sarkar 2 seems to be a movie made on some prominent political figure . Is it a real story re-enacted on reel ?
The stills seem to be as captivating as the trailers that run on various channels.
We look forward to watching this movie as well as Bhoothnath when we come over to India next week from Muscat.
Until then,
CHAO.

Dear Sir
It’s good of you to personally keep in touch with your fans through this medium. You are Big B with really big acting skills and yet as a human being who is so gifted and loved and certainly blessed by some kind of power, you put yourself on the same level a eveyone else ie you connect to ordinary people.
When you came to Walkers Stadium in Leicester UK you had invited me to India when I stated ( I was one of the winners of people chosen to ask you questions)
that this was third time lucky for me. Why then did you run away after the
show? Can me and my husbad come to see you in India? I came to see you at the IFA promotions (2007) at the House of Parliament but you were overpowered by the press. I woul like to meet Jayaji. You both have been my idols since “Abhimaan” and will always remain so.

Hello Mr Bachchan,
I am truly enjoying your blog. While i still havent made-up my mind on your outspokenness, i believe in the fact that you have a right to do what “you want ” like everyone else on this earth. Knowing you, i am sure you will learn and evolve even through this blog in the next few years, and improve on your perfection. I dont know what that will be, but i know you will get there. If the pictures are to be read, Sarkar Raj seems like a promising venture.
OK, now I have been thinking in my head abt a story that will really work with a super star like you. Its that of an assassin who becomes a saviour. A master marksman, ex-armed forces from some place in africa, having lost his parents early and lived thru hardships (being part of some struggle in the home country where he gets the training) to be come the strong well rounded persoanlity that you display thru this caharcter. It shud start by showing you living in a small town in brazil, like any retired old man - and the story should slowly unravel to show your true identity - where you are in town to actually kill a very rich business man. A tenneage neighbour gets a glimpse of yr abilities through a sheer coincidence when he is in some incident where you bail him out showing strength and resolve that no ordinary man could possess. There is a love angle with his mother who is in her late 40’s, and the bulk of the story is yr transformation from who you are to a regular guy. this transformation happens through your being throwin a circumstance whereby you help a family/community/country in a extra ordinary way through the abilities that have helped you survive thus far. I dont think it requires a judgement on yr past but shud end in your embracing the future.
get some one to polish this please and do do it!

Dear Mr Bachchan
I visited your blog for the first time yesterday, 19 May 2008. Let’s just say, I spent most of my day reading your blog and then contemplating the brilliant words expressed in it. You see, I am a lover of beautiful words. I felt this urge to write something to you and caught myself thinking strategically on how best to attract your attention. I realised soon, that all I could was express my feelings, like you do everyday. I, too, like many people have been a fan of yours but also a sceptic at times. After reading your blog, I feel I have been touched by the true person within you. You have given me a wonderful opportunity to get to know the real you and believe me, I know its the real you! The honesty of your words (like Aishwarya said in an interview) and the clarity with which you express your words makes me feel like I should be a student of yours. I feel the deep inate desire to be in the company of a great person like you so that I too may learn to express myself both artistically and inately like you do. You are obviously a great dad, your children and extended family are lucky to be exposed and influenced by someone as brilliant as you. My words do not seem to do justice to the feelings in my heart- continue to write beautifully and conquer our hearts through your words. You speak beautiful words and these words make me feel inspired!!!
Wish I had an uncle like you!
Lots of Love

Just read the blog where you shared “Man ka ho to acchha. Man ka na ho to zyada acchha !”. I am just wondering if we all apply this to our life, will our life be simpler??? My dad is looking for a suitable guy for me. When I go to meet a guy, I think that we both are not compatible with each other. Now my father listens to me, but I think after some years, he will say now dont say no to every guy and marry whosoever you are getting..Do you think I should abide by his decision or I should have faith in myself and wait for the guy whom I would actually like to marry?????

Hope you and your family are in the best of health and spirits. Also hope you had a nice time with your family in cannes.
Finally I was able to watch bhoothnath yesterday with my mum, papa,my little niece(2.10 yrs)& my 8 yr. old nephew. We all enjoyed the movie thoroughly. The scenes between you and the banku were very natural and the movie was fantabulous. There was not a single moment where we felt film is losing it’s spirit. The climax really made me think how much our little -little rituals are important.
I read your personal experience and the lesson you learnt from your father’s words.(mann ka ho to achcha, mann ka naa ho to zyada achcha).I feel the words of wisdom which parents give to their children are significant in their life.Even I try my best to give right values and advices to my sister’s children. And I really feel accomplised when they listen and apply it even as small kids.
All the best .keep bloggng.

Hello again sir,
I hope to get a smile out of you if nothing else!
I am a UK based fan of YOU and your work.
In 1998 there was a Birmingham Internation Film Festival in which You were featured as a special guest. In Birmingham’s Odeon Cinema there was an event “An evening with Amitabh Bachchan”. You were interviewed in a cinema hall where clips of your movies where shown and your career discussed.
At the end of the interview there was an opportunity for the audience to ask questions…. I was finally chosen to stand up and speak! (by You!!)…
All i asked for was a photograph to be taken and you kindly obliged! The whole audience gasped as it was so unexpected…. i was mesmorized!
Then in June 2001, I won a competion to be a contestant on “KBC UK Special”.
In 2002, I met you in Manchester where You and Jayaji signed a copy of your book “To Be or Not To Be”.
Come on Sir!.. when a devotee meets his idol, the devotee is entitled to a boon!…
Next time you are in the UK, please come and dine with us.
Regards,
Uday..

Dear Amitabh Sir the Great,
Like so many others I am also one of the great and solid fans of yours.
I still remember one thing very distinctly that in 1983 you had come to Mysore for the shooting of the movie Mard. The location was just in front of Mysore University Hall and Oriental Research Institute(ORI). You were sitting in a Ghoda Gadi waiting for the instructions from the Director. Big crowd was there and everybody including me was watching you. You were generally smiling at all.
Then suddenly I waved at you and you did not wave me back. Sir, you did much bigger than that i.e. you bent your head and put your hand on your fore head in a very stylish way. I mean you acknowledged me with a “salute”. This was very nice gesture from your part totally unexpected. I was so thrilled and delighted. In fact I was sort of a hero among crowd and my friends. You could have simply ignored me by turning your face or just waved back. Sir but your reaction (which may appear very simple) was one thing I will not forget at all. The smile on your face with the salute is still very fresh in my memory.
May God give you best of the health and long life, so that we can see you more and more.
I thought you would visit Bangalore and I was hoping to see you there when Dr.Rajkumar passed away. That did not happen.
One day I would like to meet you personally. I do not know whether it is possible.
All the very best to you and your family. Please become dadaji (Grand father) at the earliest.
S Rajendra

Dear Pal-do-Pal,
Thats the name i used to call u when I was 4 yr old and at that time your movie had released where u sang this song. Being an Amitabh fan over last 30+ years have literally grown with you and as a ritual my dad used to take me out for your movie on every Saturday for a long time in those days. I always wanted to write a letter to you when I was 4 and today after 30 years its coming true…thanks to technology!
Today, I feel so great that i grew up mentoring a person who was worth mentoring and is an ideal human being and has very gracefully aged and has a high level of integrity and compassion for all around.
I am most pained to see you troubled at times and I felt so uncomfortable and helpless seeing you in one of recent interviews when they were questioning you on your decision to have a blog and fight back all the criticism and comments you have so gracefully tolerated over years. I think its only fare and most rightfully your prerogative to use technology which is so used and abused in todays world to clarify and clear the air for the sake of millions of fans like myself to know your point of view.
I am only writing to show my confidence in your decision to express yourself through a blog…its only fare and most needed of a man who is a mentor and a role model for millions on this planet. I acknowledge your grace and ur senstivity and am most certain you will use this rightfully to silent all those critics and most insensitive people out there, who use your influence, reach, charisma to reach out to millions of people.
I wish you the best always.
Cheers, Pooja

Respected Amitji,
I am a great fan of yours and have watched all your movies many times. You are a greatest actor that indian film industry has, you are the true Ambassador of Indian Film Fraternity outside India.
I really like you for the different types of roles you have played & even in this age the types of roles you take & play them very successfully like the one in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna marvellous thats the only word which comes to my mind.
I am confident & sure that nobody from this current generation of so called actors will be able to manage to hold themselves in the industry at their age of 65+ & with so much fan following as you have & with the roles which you still command & writers write for you.
I wish you ALL THE BEST to go on like this and play beautiful roles in the future.

Dear Amitji,
Charan sparsh. Its an honour to get in touch with you thru any form of media.I have just watched Bhoothnath..It was treat to watch. As often in BR Chopra movies, I was coming out with wet eyes from the theatre..In recent times you have been coming under many comments and criticisms which are really ridiculous.I am not that older to say anything to you but still I am requesting you to answer these comments whether bollywood gossip on SRK or the political words on North indian…For all of us you stand alongside the best the world will ever see.You are a rolemodel for everyone..You are bigger than the world Sir, so please dont allow these things to get underway so easily..
thanks..

Sir,
The Sarkar Raj stills again look as powerful as the 1st movie. More was spoken with eyes in the first one and seeing both of you in these stills, this looks as powerful of a performance.
Like the movie, you are passing the baton to a able son.

Very good stills. Good luck to you Abhi and Ash for this one. We will ensure that this becomes a big one. It will be second success for you after Bhoothnath (yes report says it is now closing to become a hit, moving up slowly and steadily). Best of luck for it’s sequel as well.
