Devoted Friends,

Your responses to my visit to the temple have been overwhelming. And even though I had wanted to perhaps talk of other matters, I must dwell on this a little more because some very valuable and interesting observations have come up.

Many amongst you wonder what I ask for from the Gods when I am in their presence and the need for me to make a public spectacle of it. Others complain of keeping devotees waiting in cues whilst we get special treatment. Many amongst you and a large majority, draw inspiration. And some misguided elements mischievously and wantonly make disgusting non secular remarks.

A new born child has no idea of what religion is, among several other things they have no idea of. Their upbringing their parenting guides them into  the world, into life, into belief. My Mother was a Sikh, my Father a Hindu. Neither of them ever deliberately forced me into following a particular religious thought. I grew up with my Mother reciting the verses and virtues of the Granth in one ear and the Ramayan in the other through my Father.

My apologies -

I wrote an entire piece on this further and the internet connect went off and i have lost it all.

I am so frustrated and angry.

I must now rush to several promotional activities for Sarkar Raj and shall end for now but I promise I shall complete what I can remember from memory and put it up.

Urghhrgh… so annoyed !

Amitabh Bachchan

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,

You can always use Microsoft word to write down your thoughts, instead of doing it online….That way you do not have to bother about internet connectivity…Once you are finished, you can copy the whole material onto your blog…

Remember to save your page on a frequent basis, when you are writing on Microsoft word…Otherwise, you could lose that too….

    hello sir,
Its nice to see that you are keeping bit low profile, there is certainly a overdose of you and your family sometime back. You have become quite a soft target of late. One advice select a good script and please dont try to act cool, you look very very annoying. look your old movies like diwar, parwarish and many more, you were very cool in them, So just be natural and you will look cool and please stop making faces like you usally make now days, for example in climax of the most horrible film JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM. JUST WATCH YOUR OLD MOVIES AND YOU LOOK COOL. And please let us know what vidihis and poojas you did and what stones you wore to become rich again you were almost bankcrupt one time, there is nothing be ashmed about if you are doing it, thats why you go to so many temple so you dont have to see those days again, nothing wrong in it but dont try to hide it.

I hope you do understand, ppl have different opinions, some are your fans, some die hard, some who love you, some who hold you in high respect and some who dont care and there are some, like you put it misguided elements. But on the whole, most Indians love and respect and we are so proud of you. So this kind of responses are just but natural. What struck me with that line you wrote: It is this perception that the upper strata of society made up of celebrities, big business owners, the elite, etc suffer no such ‘inconveniences’.

Your line highlighted that even technology can, at times, be the great equaliser!

I was revisiting Benaam yesterday. This is another film that for me represents everything that was marvelous about the 70s. A cinema that was rooted (another ‘Bombay’ film this..), real characters, an interesting narrative, and in this case a superb Asha/Rafi duet in Aa raat jaati hai chupke se mil jayen dono.. The film of course belongs to the thriller genre that was so popular in that decade. I keep making the claim that the 70s was the most variegated decade of cinema and the thriller genre is but one of the manifestations of the latter. And you also had another thriller in Majboor the same year.

One of the reasons the cinema of that decade fascinates me so much is because it is so much about the topography of Bombay. I still await the writer who does a book on this — Bombay as it was represented in Hindi cinema down the ages but especially in the 70s. In this regard let me mention two songs that function as love letters to the city in that period. The first one is from Manzil, this is the rim jhim gire saawan video but the female version. You and Moshumi Chatterjee walks through the streets of a rain swept Bombay. It’s a very evocative song sequence. Deeply nostalgic in some ways. The other one is from your “ardhangini’s” film, Piya Ka Ghar — the frenetically paced and shot Bambai shehr ki chal aa tujhe ser karadoon.

Since the 90s Bombay has very rarely been represented in Hindi cinema. Another casualty of ‘Bollywood’. In this regard Ram Gopal Varma’s Satya stands out as a magnificent exception. His film represents another ode to Bombay, on a very different scale. To be fair the signs have been healthier on this front over the last few years as cinema has been gradually decontaminated of its 90s admixture. I am perhaps a purist. I prefer that palatial residences in England not masquerade as Indian homes! Or that Swiss streets not be stand-ins for Bombay ones. Finally, as the ultimate admirer of that 70s cinema I will always resist the name ‘Mumbai’. The city will always be ‘bambai nagariya’ for me…

It is completely ignorant of you to call everyone that disagrees with you “misguided”. Maybe, you’ve lost objectivity in your personal life….40plus years in the film industry can’t help!! It is quite narcissistic of you to think that as your family gets dibs on Lord Ganesha, others get to watch this spectacle. I mean, c’mon!! Btw, when I went on to check the coverage of this incident by the press, on the net. There was one hilarious one (that is what I found and thought about it)

“According to reports, Amitabh and his family went to pay their respects due to the impending release & success of ‘Sarkar Raj’ “….

My mind, immediately starting asking “reports - whose reports” ! How did they know what thoughts were in the minds of Amitabh B & his family !!! The pity of it all, we as readers are so gullible. And think that what ever media has reported is “the” truth ! tch tch…

Coming back to this particular blog, please do complete this thought. There are many indian couples who have spouses from different faiths (like me :-)). I am sure it will help us.

    dearest amithji,
thank you so much for sharing your experience at ‘ siddhivinayak’.

I do not know what ” punya” i had done in my previous birth, that i get to read your thoughts.
reading your blogs is simply bliss

As i have written many times in my earlier posts[if u have read this post please acknowledge, its a request from the bottom of my heart] you are, sooo well , thru your blogs recreating ‘values’ in us like, loving ones parents, caring for the family, respecting friends etc.

How could anybody think that one goes to temple only to ask God for material gain!!! I , many times , simply thank god for giving me a beautiful, intelligent daughter or remind myself[ not that i ever forget] there is one supreme almighty who controls everything.

Here are a few interesting insights i would like to share with you

Hinduism is not a religion unlike other religions. It is a way of living giving utmost importance to Righteousness[Dharma]. Seers and Realistic souls from time to time, generation to generation, following the concept of Guru Shisya Parampara have stressed utmost importance of propagating Dharma. Sage like Mandavya cursed Dharma [Embodiment of Virtue itself] for the punishment he decreed, was far in execess of the deserts of a mistake committed by a mistake by a child in ignorance. He was born as a mortal in the world. He was Vidhura as we all know. Such is the greatness of Dharma Hinduism preaches us. However in course of time due to various reasons beyond control, Dharma
has become eroded and this has become a great retardation to progress in our country. Selfishness has also set in due to bad administration. Added to this there is no accepted spritual leader who can lead us removing superstitious beliefs and conventions which have no relevance today in our modern living. We talk of developed and developing countries and also analysing what democracy means to us. Hinduism tells us 5 important basic things for our living which are available to us , given by nature. They are Akash, Vayu, Agni, Apah and Prithvi. Our survival having good health depends on Pollution free atmoshpere, Fresh Air, Fire in the form of Dynamism, Water and land for equitable distribution. If these infrastructure are given to all human beings by the Administrators whoever govern us without biased outlook, then every individuall will utilise one’s resources and energy towards upliftment of higher plane of
thought. If not, life becomes mere existence alone. It is in this context that Hinduism commands 10 guidelines for our Happiness asserting it using the word COMMAND. They are Fortitude, Forgiveness, Noncoveting, Purity, Selfcontrol, Control over senses, Power of Mind to Discriminate between Good and Bad, Learning, Truthfulness and Absence of Anger. All these lead us to infinity. Supreme being is Ekam, Poornamadam as taught by Adi Sankara, by means of Monolism, Advaita Philosophy. . What is whole; this is whole; what has come out of the whole is also whole. When the whole is taken out, the whole still remains whole.

I can type some more, if only i knew that u would be intrested.

Always praying for your good health,

    with respect,

    kalpana kakade

You just come or other VIP people come and enter the temple where as commom people have to wait in long lines to visit the temple. I hope you agree to this and give a thought on it. I belive the fair mean to visit god is that you should not hurt anyone around which is more importan than visiting a temple. I think all are equal woeshipers a VIP doesnot worship god more than a non VIP all are is equal devotees and children. Well, it is rather upseting to find that even in God’s own place, ordinarey pilgrims are discriminated against because there is a VVIP coming for a darshan. At least in a temple, all mortals should be treated at par with each other. As for security, you are such a loved celebrity and I am sure no one will jostle you in a temple, at least. Anyway, I’m glad you are back, and awaiting your post on this personal matter of religion. Since my parents too came from different religions (Christian/Lutheran and Jewish) and left it to me whether I wanted to be part of any religion when grown up (which I never did - I believe in God, but not in any ‘exclusive’ way to reach him), I’m really curious to hear more about your thoughts and beliefs.

    Hello Sir,

I noticed very interesting increase in the trending of your blog readers and also their increase of interest in comments.

    Here are some readings

    Days Number of Comments
    Welome message 402
    Day 1 to 10 5750
    Day 11 to 20 6450
    Day 21 to 30 9472
    Day 31 to 38 8788
as noticed from day 1 to day 38 there is huge increase in the number of comments flowing in ..although the last figure is only for 8 days and not 10 days ..still a clear interest of readers and bloggers can be noticed.I had made many graphs but were unable to post them as the site does not allow.

Also have noticed many other things one of which is that there are certain days u post more than one comments…and there is tremendous increase trending seen in those days too….

some days in which you wrote more than once and those days are :-\

    Day 34 2995
    Day 32 939
    Day 30 1056
    Day 28 1694
    Day 23 1217
    Day 22 607
    Day 20 1143

    Day 17 627
    Day 16 539
    Day 11 1501
    Day 8 1260

Mr.Bachchan!! It is totally understandable…The Frustration of Losing all what you wrote…But it teaches a good Lesson..!! Next time, First write your thoughts ion a Word document or notepad, keep saving after every paragraph and then Copy and Paste it into your blog site!! That will save you a lot of effort!!

And you are absolutely right, no child knows anything about religion, we instill it into the white pages of his/her mind. And why do you feel the need of explaining so much? You are what you are…and if you feel the need to go and visit a temple , whats wrong with that? Even If it IS for praying for the success of Sarkar Raj, What is wrong with that…..? I mean we All do all this…When we are passionate about something or we really want something go according to our wish, we do every possible thing to Achieve that, and prying to God is firt and foremost. !! I mean People and Press!! Please Leave this nice, normal, down to earth family alone!!

Good Luck and Lots of Love and regards to All of you Mr.Bachchan!!

    ohoo..sir..so sad that was.
it happnes to everyone nd its so frustrating. specially when we jolt down points which come to us instantly at that time in that particular mood. its very difficult to re think it later.
about what you said bout god..sir my thoughts are a bit different.

most of us i beleive are in the initial childhood days allined to the way of thinking. there are very few who will change the track after gaining knowledge.
thats some thing about Brain. once some preset values are sprouted into our brains..we tend to build up on it. nd the roots gets its own earth.
nd beleive me.. an believer of god or an atheist will have hunderds of reason for supporting his stance. and no one can deter him/her from what he beleives.
actually according to me..there are two type of people..Stubborn or Confused.!

well i would like to clear it 1st..i am a Believer of God:)
my parents were relegious, so am i. when ever i get into difficult situation ..my beliefe gives me the strength to recover.
for me the definition of being good or bad come from believing god.
but as i grew up..i saw the world around..nd i found that many of my friends who are Atheist are much better humanbeings than those who are very religious. so where did these atheist got their values from.
may be i think they started it by challenging the so called psudo religious people..or what ever reason.
but i was wondering how the concept of God came into existance..imagin all human beings who are supposed to be the last level of evolution …so after milion years of evolution..it needed a human to create a concept of god?
what if the concept of god was not there..and all of us were Atheist? how would the world be.
may be some wise man created some rules to live life..some felt it was good. years passed nd he became God now. who knows..just a wild geuss.:)
if all of us were atheist? there was no vedas, geeha, kuran, bible ect..then how would we be living our lifes.
how would have those apes/humans defined good and bad.
how would have it started that hurting, stealing ect ect are bad..and so nd so are good thing to do.
    sometimes i get very confused.:)
have you ever been through this type of confusion in life?

Here they are again. Thanks for this.

    1. Jab tak jeevan hai, tab tak sangharsh hai.
    2. Jo beet gayi so baat gayi……….jeevan me ek sitaara tha, mana woh behad pyaara tha,woh doob gaya toh doob gaya, ambar ke aanan ko dekho, kitne iske taare tute, kitne uske pyaare chute,jo chut gaye phir kaha mile, par bolo tute taaro par, kab ambar shok manata hai…….jo beet gayi so baat gayi.
and 3rd the most important is:-
    3. Gar Mann ka ho toh achcha……aur agar na ho toh AUR BHI ACHCHA:)

Also i had a question about Table-Tennis. Whether you played the game in your break.”one of my old Table-Tennis friend Sameer Bhate had told us that you used to play TT when you had taken a break few years back. Is it true??”

    Dear Mr.Bachchan,

I have never participated in Blog discussions before I found your blog. I have read a few blogs but when I found your blog I just wanted to be a part of it. But somewhere responding to a blog entry is akin to sending up a prayer. When one says a prayer, it is said in good faith. You pray and you hope that the Almighty has heard it and then reality strikes and you reason that there are so many pressing issues and the Lord must take care of those first. Another thought that comes to mind is that there are millions of prayers in God’s inbox so how will He/She find mine? Then there are people who present themselves very well that I feel God is forced to sit up and take notice….like the aarti’s, the upvaas, the shoeless padh-yatras. Because I do none of these but only offer a heartfelt sincere prayer, I feel that it takes a while for mine to be heard and then too partially. Then we console ourselves with wise words like “man ka ho to achcha, man ka na ho tho aur achcha”.

I don’t mean to liken you to the Almighty but it is the best analogy I could draw. I repond to your blog when I feel a connection to something. When I write to you, I know what you probably never get to read it because it gets lost in the millions of responses, some better written and more meaningful than mine. I also don’t expect that you have time from the business of life and I do understand. This is not meant to be a complaint, merely an observation. Am just likening it to saying a prayer or like sending a message in a bottle. Kaun jane kab kahan kissi ki nazar mein aaye!!! This is a message lost in cyberspace koi padhe tho achcha, na padhe tho aur achcha…..

    With love…….take care…keep writing.

    Yours Truly.

In such cases of internet break, it is ideal to write first in your word processor /MS word on your computer, and then subsequently copy and paste/ upload on to the server. Love and regards to all in the family. Please have a good time, and take care of your health. Wish you lots of smiles and plenty of exciting, fulfilling work.
    Best wishes always, Harshika.

    Haha,

    Nice one.

I agree with you. Don’t know why some people make a fuss out of nothing. You are religious person just like any other human being.

You have the same right. But bcoz u are a celebrity and The King of Indian Cinema so people try to judge you and also wonder why?

Come on why would anyone go to templ and pray. Why are they going? Doesn’t mean that you want something thats why you go to templ early in the morning.

Yeh your site crashed i tried to access like 10 mins - knew something was wrong.

Well when you back write more. And a long page so we get more to read.

    Our Dear Mr. Bachchan,
One thing that has really touched me is the fact that after all the hurdles of life, the busy schedules, and maintaining deadlines. I must say I am impressed by the fact that you make time to offer your prayers to God with such devotion by taking that barefoot walk with your family to the temple regularly. To some, these things may not mean much but in fact, these things do mean a lot to the heart. I believe every little thing that we do matters in life. Even a small leaf cannot move without some divine intervention. I encourage you to keep doing what the heart pleases, no matter what the obstacles it may bring. Majority of the decisions that I’ve made in life have been from the heart. I believe that every decision that a heart makes is the right one, no matter what the world may say so do to prove it wrong.

I wish you all the best at the IIFA event. Bring back some trophies…

By the way…I am still waiting for you to provide me with your contact info regarding a screenplay that I written for you that I’ve mentioned in my previous postings.

    Best Regards,

“internet connect(ion) went off and i have lost it all.”

Each of the bloggers on this world would have gone through this frustration and anger at all the thoughts penned being lost on account of the ‘internet dropping the connection’.

I am one of the said bloggers. However, to overcome this and to have the added convenience of writing a blog when offline, I use a very featureful blog-writers tool - a piece of software that you would need to download to your computer/laptop.

The tool is the Windows Live Writer. I would suggest that you use this or a similar tool where you can have a copy of your ‘blog’ on your computer, safe from the intermittent ravages of the internet.

I have written a short blog about it at: Windows Live Writer: Overcoming Bloggers’ Block!

Hope this helps in some way or form.

I can see why you feel frustrated when your internet connection went down. If I may suggest a simple technique to avoid the frustration, please write your content locally in a word document and then paste it into the blog.

    Dear Sir,

I grew up watching you and your movies and I wish my kid grows up watching you.

My daughter Ria was 2 when she used to recognise you in any advertisemnt, picture or movie and for her you are family and the other person she adores is BUNTY, thats Abhishek for her.

I’d like to share a incident with you. Last week we had been to BHOOTHNATH and We all loved and RIA enjoyed it, but after the movie she was very quiet and did not talk to anyone on our way back home. When we reached back home her first question was “WHY DID BHOOTHNATH GO AWAY?”.

WE WISH THAT RIA’s BHOOTHNATH AND HER BUNTY WILL BE WITH HER FOREVER.

Will be waiting for your article. We wish you & Abhishek all the best for SARKAR RAJ…

Well I know it can’t go wrong. It will emerge a winner.

WE WISH YOU GOOD HEALTH AND ALL THE HAPPINESS IN THIS WORLD FOREVER.
