Taj Banjara Hotel, Hyderabad June 15/16 , 2008 12:07 am
The plan for the day was to be in 3 cities in one day and be back in Mumbai at night. The only way to be able to achieve that was to hire a plane and keep a very tight schedule. We did that and all was set, announcements made, program and personnel sent to locations in advance. First stop Indore, then Lucknow, back to Hyderabad and by mid night return to Mumbai.
But.. the weather changed all that ! Lashing rain and clouds inundated the city from the early hours. We were due to take off at 7 am and it was not abating. Spoke to the captain of the chartered jet and he confirmed the satellite pictures were not looking good. In the monsoons in a private jet I had once had a terrible experience. Almost didn’t make it that afternoon some years ago. That haunted me and we had to regrettably cancel Indore and Lucknow. Instead we took a commercial flight to Hyderabad late afternoon when the weather improved and participated in the Idea IIFA competition for Sarkar Raj.
We shall programme Indore and Lucknow again for another day. Some of the readers had expressed their disappointment at our cancellation, but let me assure them that it is not a cancellation. It is a postponement. As soon as we can extract a little time out from our respective schedules we will be back !
Hyderabad is a delightful city. Full of culture and excitement and history and delicious food ! It has always amazed me how diverse our country is not just in language and caste and creed and religion and belief, but in so many other wonderful ways. The dress, the food, the festivals and the temperament of the people.
Its such a thrill to see the masses and their faces when in delight. Gives you that extra energy to do what you are doing with enhanced gusto. I would strongly recommend other members of my fraternity to go out and meet the public, when in depressed mode. It is a sure fire healer.
There were ‘meet and greet’ the contest winners, photo opportunities and the press conference. It was strange to be in the city on completion of Sarkar Raj and its subsequent release, when a year ago we were here to shoot the film.
Its Ram Gopal Varma territory. He was born and brought up in Hyderabad and in his speech at the PC narrated an emotional incident. The PVR Multiplex where the function was being held was the area where he during his college days used to run a video parlor and worse, had spent a night in the lock up of the police station of that region after he was caught playing a pirated copy of “Aakhri Raasta” - an Amitabh Bachchan movie !!
Strange are the ways of life !
Its almost like my first meeting with Dilip Saheb ( Dilip Kumar ), on a private visit to then Bombay in the 60’s and later to be standing in the same frame as him in the film ‘Shakti’.
Of which I must spend some time on another occasion, when I would like to talk of my experiences with the stalwarts I admired and worked with and my experiences with my other colleagues. Many among you have often wanted to know of those relationships. But for now they call me back on set and I shall not delay them. I need to finish in time to be able to rush for my rehearsal with Vishal@Shekhar for the Unforgettable Tour.

Dear Mr.Bachchan,
I was in the process of setting a few questions for a Indian community quiz program for children .
I set up a few question whose answers i was required to verify from the internet.
One such question was “first Indian to do his PhD in English Literature from Cambridge. ?”
Since i am a person who go through your blog daily i was sure of the answer - your respected dad Mr.Harivanshrai Bachchan.

well well well u are at hyderabad, the place that saw me grow up with ur pictures tucked away safely in my memories as they were then in all corners of my chilhood room. sighhhhhhhh, the days when i could catch ur movie first day first show. coming to shakti, yes the movie was good, still remember howling when the character was killed and hating a veteran like Dilip Kumar for that. haha. looking back, well now i really appreciate him for what he really is, a great actor. true i too have many a times wondered what is the kind of relationship actors of ur time shared and share with ur seniors, for now all i see are sickeningly negative relations. no new star seems to recognise and respect those who have laid the very paths on which they now tread.
Looking forward to ur blog regarding some great stars of yesteryears.

However, we think that the lives of celebrities are different from ours. We think they have something special which we can never have because we see only their outer lives, like their talent.
We cannot know about anything other than this outer life, but once we come to know these things, then we want to know more. We wonder about both the inner and outer lives of celebrities who seem to be special, of course very special like YOU!
However, we think that the celebrities also think that their real lives are ordinary. They are the same as us. They just had the fortune to become famous. so, if their lives are now special, so are ours.
We don’t need to know everything about them, and, in fact, we don’t have any right to do so. Maybe they don’t want to reveal their lives to everybody, just as we would not like to.

One of these days you must talk about an issue which is of prime importance for us all as Indians, which is:
The general state of affairs in our country today - the highs and the lows, the positives and the negatives - what all has gone wrong and what all has gone right in these 60 years after 1947 - our plus points and shortcomings as a nation. What all of us can do or should do to make it a better place for ourselves and the rest of the world.
Despite some marginal progress, as a nation we are still afflicted with many ills which hinder and greatly slow down our march to become a truly modern and developed nation where the basic needs of each citizen are taken care of and everyone gets an equal chance to do well and live a life of peace and harmony.
Some of the major weaknesses in our national system are:
- widespread corruption
- a heavy, lethargic, inefficient and insensitive bureaucracy,
- very poor infrastructure - especially
inadequate road & rail net work
a very inadequate power sector
inadequate education and health facilities,
low quality policing and weak law enforcement
delayed justice
- and above all a very slack and poor quality of governance for a major part of these six decades .
Apart from casting the votes every five years and focusing on its own personal immediate needs during the entire life time, most of our huge population remains quite indifferent and unconcerned which way the country is going - up or down.
People like you have the power to jolt and shake the public out of its complacency to some extent.
If the population is educated, made well aware and enlightened about its rights and responsibilities, there is no reason that elections would not throw up better competent leaders and politicians to run the affairs of this country. Once we have political forces at the helm of affairs who mean business , nothing should stop us from quickly getting out of the abysmal situation and march rapidly ahead.
To some extent, with the beginning of the reforms in 1990, the process towards improvement has already started but it is still painfully slow and a lot more needs to be done. It is here that celebrities like you can play a big role in snowballing the goodness effect.
Unfortunately after 1947, in the six decades of self governance, we have evolved a value system which does not care too much about honesty and merit and where it is not uncommon to adopt unfair means to reach your goal. This trend can only take us further down.
For a nation and people to flourish, success through hard work, honesty and merit should be the hallmark of all human endeavor. Unless we bring about that change in our national character and make fair play a reality in all the things we do, we can not hope to do any better as a country.

I am a great fan of Yours as thousand of other people around the world, however i am a even a greater fan of your father. I am by no stretch literate enough to comment on literary works of Harivansh sir however, i think Madhushala is a master piece and I have read that it started a new paradigm in the poetry called “Hallavad”. Some of my favorite lines from the masterpiece are :
Woh kacha pine wala hai, jiski mamta ghat payalo par
Jo sache madhu se jala hua hai, kab rota hai chilata hai
It will be a huge learning and enriching experience if you can provide some of your insights on the poetic work(Gems) of your father.
Moving on to the Films, I consider movies to be a mirror for our society,culture and the way of thinking apart from being the source of entertainment and pleasure. The kind of movies we appreciate and enjoy are a reflection, atleast to some extent to our intellectualism, depth of feelings and breadth of awareness.
I feel frustrated that we dont make movies like “Good Will Hunting”, “Dead Poet’s Society”,”The Shwashank Redemption”,”The Sixth Sense” and a lot more.
I feel disgusting that we even dont make movies like “Masoom”, “Izajat”, “Satykam”, “Anand”, “Sahab, Biwi aur Ghulam”,”Abhiman” anymore which are still so contemporary and refreshing to watch.
However I must say that movies like “Black”, “Swadesh”, “Tare Zameen Par”, “Maqbool” have been a refreshing change.
Below I am criticizing u a little and i must admit that i feel immesnly embarresed in doing so not only because i am illiterate for the world of art and cinema but also that u are far more experinced than me as far as the literary work of cinema is concerned. Irrespective of that i will do it, only because i Love You and want you to get every bit of accolade and praise that u truly deserve.
As an actor u have been a treat to watch carrying some poorly written, poorly scripted movies on your shoulders, however i am of the opinion(and it is very personal) that u have not done justice to your immense talent.
As the senior most actor, I feel you have the responsibility to take the common man through issue and subjects that are more relevant to our society and more deep in emotions. Emotions which every man goes through but which are difficult to comprehend. May be i am not able to express myself and so the above movies are for reference.
You talk about Indian Film Industry being getting respect all over the world but this is more because of the increasing presence of Indians all over the world than because of the quality of cinema that we cater to the world audience.
And we certainly dont do susbtantial there.
U say that u dont want to work in Other film industry but I feel as an actor u owe it to the people of the world. A literary piece of work is not and should not be confined to a particular boundary, be it of religion, country, society or people. The reposibility of art is to let the WORLD grow in some intricate way and every art form and every artist must confirm and add to his reason of existence.
You have the skills and the respect of other peeople in the Induastry that u can take indian cinema to the next level and i truly believe that You will.
In the end if You have the satisfaction that You did your best, I will be so immensly proud because inner satisfaction is all that matters!!!

I am not quite sure if Ram Gopal Verma was born and brought up in Hyderabad, as stated in your blog. I think he was brought up in Vijaywada. I am not sure of his birth place.

Dear Amit Ji,
It has indeed been an experience to be able to have your blog adn get insights into your personlity and itellect. Main aapke aage natmastak hoon. Greatness was destined for you, irrespective of te way you would have chosen. Its our good luck that it happened through cinema and now through your writing. Your writing inspires us to pick up a pen again and write, a thing forgotten in the times of computers, sms and printed greeting cards.
Your critique of reviewers has been great. However, in recent times your responses to your critics have become more and more shallow and no criticism seems welcome. It seems anyone who does not like your films or reviews it unfaviourably is bound to be thrashed by your choicest and must say impressive use of vocabulary and style( it is indeed highest of high class and one of the reasons for my being natmastak).
Especially your forwarding of Ramu’s critical blog on Sarkar Raj reviews. That got very personal as to even criticising people alike Raja Sen for being strugglers and dreaming to make movies. What’s wrong with that? The only review which has been apprciated is by Bhuvan Soumaya while its the only one which praises the film and the cast.
Now, i live in Switzerland and saw this film with my Swiss friends in a cinema hall. I love your work and cinema but this film was an insult to the audience intellect (especially with so many close-ups , slow speed and ofcourse this hidden assasin with his hand gestures creaked of kitsch and bordered on being cheap..you could really see teh whole hall laughing). In the second half of the film, people were seen talking and laughing in the most serious of scenes. This does not mean that we dont like you or your work but would like to give you a real picture of how the audience felt and hope that you will do great time.
Nothing gives your genuine fan more than seeing an amazingly interesting and succcessful film for yours. We always wait for a Cheeni kum, Silsila, Bunty aur Babli, Black and Agneepath (with original soundtrack). But if we or reviewer tells you that Toofan, Jadugar, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Lal Badshah and Sarakar Raj were tortures, it should be taken in the right spirit because all of us die hard fans want nothing short of best from you.
if you do like my genuine concern and feedback, I promise to provide you a detailed response for each one of you releases from now on.

PS: Is it possible to have Agneepath with original soundtrack from somewhere (not the redubbed version). I will love to see that film again and again but unfortunately we can only find the redubbed version in the market.

i viewed your almost all movies till date. But, one of movie named BANSI BIRJU, (which was produced and directed by Prakash Varma,realsed during 1972 and your co-star was JAYA BHABHI, Music direct was Vijay R Rao) i dint seen till date, due to non availibity of the CD/DVD. Can you suggest me how i can get this movie’s CD/DVD,sir. If possoble revert me.
i tried lot to get this movie since many years. I keen interested to see this movie.

Okay, so far there are only 5 comments posted and I went through them and have to say that I agree with Dolly & Mukesh - not entirely, but to a degree. I think I was over-awed by you, Jayaji, Sanjay Duttji, Shah Rukhji, Aamirji, Srideviji, Meenakshiji, to name a few, when I was a teen. Maybe because of this awed nature as an adolescent, every now and then I go through phases of wanting to watch only certain films. I’ll go back to nearly the beginning and watch your films one after the other or I’ll go back Meenakshi and want to see her in some of my favorite films of her. The same with Aamirji & Shah Rukhji.
However, I am not such a crazed fan now. I’ve grown up and before when I used to have fleeting thoughts about you all really just being people like the rest of us, on another level I never believed it. Now though, I completely believe that there is no great difference between celebrities and regular people. When we die, we all go to the same place (please, no nonsense about the Heaven and Hell dichotomy).
Now for Kamal, I second him, though I doubt I’m the only one since you say that many of us have asked you to elaborate on your work experiences with other celebrities. I’m sure the media is looking forward to those blog entries as well to create their own version and add ‘masala’. I just have one piece of advice for you in that respect (though I’d love to hear your experiences as well):
Please write the truth, but be careful in your wording. By being your honorable self, your words might get twisted by those word-sharks out there. So maybe, diplomacy would be best when rehashing your experiences on a public blog. Another piece of advice, since you are saving your blog entries on WORD now to save yourself the grief of having to re-write if the document is unsaved on the server, re-read what you’ve written before posting the entry. Just some safe guards that I follow when writing my own blog.

More examples of your busy schedule. Three cities in one day! I guess the elements forced you to slow down for once. I’m glad nobody took any unwise chances after reading of your terrible experience in the private jet. Thankfully you are here today to tell about it.
If meeting the public is a healing experience for you, let me tell you that it was many times the healing experience for me to have met you. Your being part of my life whether it is on screen, in concert, in person, or on this blog is helping me so much. Last night on the long train ride home from viewing Mere Baap Pehle Aap, my little sister gave me the good news of her acceptance of her boyfriend’s proposal for marriage. Of course I am thrilled for her. But I had to have several good cries because that leaves me, the oldest of three siblings as the only one who is alone. And the way my life has gone for the past twenty years, the chances of me ever having another date is about the same as the chances of RGV’s Aag being voted best film of the year. (Sorry about that but it shows how hopeless it really is.) Of course to make things even worse, on the subway platform last night, some sleezy guy tried to pick me up, asking me my name several times. I kept saying “why do you want to know?” and just walked away. In a few hours I have an endodontist appointment to start a root canal. The fun never ends!!! So you see why every time I find a new post my mood improves and a smile forms on my face. Seeing you on TV or on screen does the same. Now you know that you are a sure fire healer for at least one of your public.
I see that now there is more rushing in your life for rehearsals for the Unforgettable Tour. Good luck with those and take care of yourself. That is a funny story about RGV’s police lock-up. I look forward to reading about the experiences with your colleagues.

Dear Amit Sir,
I did not know that you were going to be in Hyd and that too at PVR which is 5 min from where i currentely stay (Shall blame my ignorance for it). Imagine me dying to see you in person and here i miss a golden opportunity.
Any ways whats done is done.
Just wanted to let u know that i saw Sarkar Raj this fri and it was great. Your performance was superb ( to say the least). Abhi and Ash were good but you were fantastic. But i must say that i was a wee bit disappointed with the climax as there was a lot of narration. If Sarkar could find out the whole mystery by just making a few phone calls then how come Sankar was so ignorant despite the fact that he is shown to be so powerful and clever.
There is another part in the movie that was not convincing was What was sankar doing all alone when he was shot. Where was his body guard who is always with him like a shadow.
Am not being critical but just few pointers that i observed. But overall a great performance by you.

Good to hear that you decided to postpone your trip to Lucknow and Indore because of the weather conditions. I don’t think it would be possible for you to plan another trip in the near future as Monsoon in India is in full swing, reaching many parts of the country earlier than expected. Surprising that the TV channels have not come up with the “Breaking News”… “Amitabh Bachchan ko dar lagta hai”.
Please may we know what made you all decide to take the yatra to these specific three cities. I understand Hyderabad as most of the movie was shot there but Lucknow and Indore?
I don’t remember who said it but when asked to define India he/she said “Unity in Diversity”. According to my father, India is such a diverse country that it will take us a couple of life times trying the different foods. India sure is Incredible.
Dr. H.R. Bachchan must have written something about India and it’s diversity. If yes I would be obliged if you could share it with me.

Honestly(?) ..I do not beleive that you get the time to type ALL OF your daily diary and post it personally on the blog…….everyday.
Possibly you have a ghost-writer who does the act for you. And you are dictating to him/her and the gaps are filled and posted in your blog.
No problems with that. It is understandable.
But, frankly I do not think you read everyone’s comments. Again, Can’t blame you ! There are hundreds of comments posted on each of your daily routines.
No one, especially as busy as you are, can have to time/energy to read them all……leave alone posting a response to it..
So, what is the purpose of people posting comments to you ?
(Haha, I guess this is my 2nd and last one)..!
I have never seen your answer or explanation to any comment.
You just keep on and on with your daily dairy…..!
And people just keep reading it and type away their comments.
My guess is that your blog is just to promote yourself and the movies that you act in….. Haha, Nothing wrong again !!

While you are at it (chronicling your relationship with other stars), I would like you to talk about comedy, comedians as well. I have seen, enjoyed and appreciated many of your comedy scenes.
Tell me, for instance what do you think of Jim Carrey? There was a time when he and his kind of jokes made me puke or turn a prudish shoulder. Later someone taught me to laugh for such jokes too. And I have never stopped wondering about the immense talent of Carrey/ or that Mr Bean etc. Are you happy doing comic roles too? You must be –as you do them well. But then, they are more of “asides” (pun intended). What do you have to say about comedy in Indian cinema?
Also, please write about your “friendships” with Rajnikanth…(Amar Singh, you can spare us! with due respects to whatever you see in him), whether you knew late Kannada matinee idol, Dr Rajkumar; your impressions about other language movies/stars/film culture; the experiences you have had while “remaking” language movies or working with artistes from other regions etc.
I am looking forward to such posts.

Recently when I was going thru wikipedia, I was surprised to read that your dad was the second Indian to do phd from Cambridge university. where as a few days ago I had read in your blog that he was the first Indian , so please , amitji let us know who is correct.for your quick reference I am reproducing a paragraph of it , from wikipedia.
From 1941 to 1952 he taught English at Allahabad University and then spent two years at Cambridge University, at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. There he studied with the famous English literature don, Thomas Rice Henn, and received a doctorate in English Literature for his work on the Irish poet W.B. Yeats. It was then that he used ‘Bachchan’ as his last name instead of Srivastav. Bachchan was the second Indian to get his doctorate in English literature from Cambridge University.

there is an Egyptian Version of the movie, made by Egyptian actors…but i’ve never seen it.
that’s the first movie i saw for you, many years ago…it was gifted to me by a relative and a friend…i was still a child, 10 or 11 years maybe…and since that time i am obsessed with you. yea really “Strange are the ways of life !”
sometimes the best things that might happen, are those happen by chance…and really i consider this movie that was presented to me, is the one of the best things.

I am writing to you from Lahore, Pakistan. First things first, it is an honor and a privilege to be speaking directly to somebody who has inspired and enthralled me for the most of my 32 years of existence. This is, of course, assuming that you actually personally go through all messages posted here daily; looking at the kind of response that you get here daily, I would say that my message getting buried in the plethora of messages is distinctly probable, yet the prospect of one’s hero actually reading one’s thoughts and quite possibly, even responding to something that I may have to say is too much of a temptation for me not to be writing these lines. Needless to say, I am but one of the millions of Pakistanis who remain your very ardent and loyal fans. Growing up in the eighties and nineties, we, the urban youth of Pakistan had two equally popular and clear heroes, men who surpassed everybody else with their charisma, class and accomplishments, one of course was Imran Khan, the other was yourself, which goes to show the kind of popularity you enjoyed and enjoy in my country.
I just saw Sarkar Raj the other day, on DVD, of course and have a few observations to make. I see all these comments where people seem to be gushing over how great a movie it is! But I would beg to differ. I think I have seen Sarkar (the first one) twice and as I sat through Sarkar Raj, I kept looking for something, anything, which would be different from Sarkar, something which would “surprise” a student of RGV cinema, a true “surprise” amongst surprises because unless I am completely mistaken, looking at the last half an hour of the film, that really seemed to be the whole objective of making the movie! It may have worked for people who have just stumbled onto RGV brand of cinema, but for someone who has seen all his work and who knows his method of storytelling, it was yawn! yawn! NOTHING NEW!
It essentially had the same ingrediants, two towering characters, Subhash and Shankar Nagrey, dominating the screen and the storyline. The only difference from Sarkar was a more restrained Subhash and a more in-charge Shankar. Unfortunately, these were the only two characters that the director was interested in exploring and the story had time for. Like most other Hindi films , RGV seemed more interested to move the story forward and generate interest through events rather than some improvisation, e.g. introducing a stronger negative character, someone who had the class to stand toe to toe with Shankar and Subhash but a different perspective on life, or by using Aishwariya more intelligently, giving her role a different , maybe negative facet. Nothing of the sort! Instead what we got here was the standard dose of five or six crooked “kameena” villains (just like Sarkar), one big conspiracy (just like Sarkar) and the swift wiping out of the criminals, once Subhash had found out everything (just like Sarkar), the only difference being a shocked, surprised and dismayed Aishwarya getting a crash course in dirty politics. So what is the big deal about the film?
Only one in my humble opinion, that is Abhieshek’s acting, although being a die-hard Big B fan(much like the white, blue collar angry women in the US democratic primaries who were irreversibly glued to Clinton and just would not vote for Obama) it is very difficult to admit that anyone can give you the run for your money on screen, Abhieshek did it. There was a maturity and a finesse to his acting that was hard not to appreciate! I will also show some flexibility and admit that he is better looking than you were in your prime, thanks to some of those genes he has got from Mrs. Bachchan, but that concession will only be available if he admits, publicly, which I think he has done a few times, that there can be no other Amitabh Bachchan!
As for Sarkar Raj, I would say it was, as they say in Lahore, Aiwayeen (So so).
BTW, you were absolutely brilliant in the movie, but that really is no news for anyone!

I heard and read this line from you sir.Frankly, we being very ambitious…this didn’t make sense till yesterday because at this age i guess we all have a fire to get whatever we want very quickly.
Would like to share a small incidence which changed my belief.Me and My husband are migrating abroad and were all set to fly next month.After so much suffering and stress…after so many sleepless nights…finally the last stage came and we just had to go for our visa.We didn’t wanted to wait a day more to complete our ambitions…until the last night when we realized that there are some rule changes and we have to wait till Oct now…and if we would have gone to without that prepration..we would have got rejected..spoiling all our plans.
So apne man ka hota to acha hota…nahin hua ..its better…it saved us timely from spoiling our plans for ever.I guess the delay is for good.
Now we will go late…but we will go…it feels bad..yes we are sad..but atleast the hope is there.apne man ka hota to shayad hope bhi khatam ho jati…
god saved us…hope now all goes well.please do give ur blessings to us so that we can also work and fullfill our ambitions as you have done.regards

Its been quite a while since I wrote to you. Well..it feels as though I have not been in touch with my friend for a long time !
Our vacation in Bangalore,India is soon coming to an end and we r leaving for Muscat soon ! Back to the furnace !! Back to the confines of the 4 A/conditioned walls !! Back to reading the Amitabh blog everyday ….
When you are with extended family, sometimes, one’s own hobbies are set aside, maybe one has no time when there are so many mundane chores to do…
But then we had a great pleasure trip to Mysore too .
Mysore is a beautiful city that still has a Victorian charm….but…but the techies are all out to inflate property prices and also destroy the charm of the city by bringing in development that can destroy the peace of the city and also its existing greenery.
Bangalore aka The Garden City does not really seem so GREEN NOW as compared to what it was 20 yrs ago.
What really irked me most in the city of Mysore was that in many temples of tourist interest , one really felt that there was trade and commerce and no DEVOTION. The big fat priests were more keen on money… the temple officers who were supposed to regulate crowds made money by just making way in the queue for which we already paid money in the form of SPECIAL DARSHAN TOLL !
UFFF !!!!GREEDY PEOPLE EVERYWHERE, NOT A BIT OF SHAME..
MONEY MAKES THEM SPIN..
THEY FORCE THE ONES WHO REFRAIN, TO GET INTO THIS SIN !!
Really sad state of affairs…

I finally saw Sarkar Raj yesterday night (I was soooo eager I went for the 11:15 pm show inspite of having school today morning !). I must say it was one of your best movies till date. I liked Bhoothnath but I LOVED Sarkar Raj.
Abhishek left me amazed….I mean I have always liked him (ever since his “Refugee” days) and defended him in my friend circle from critisim but he was simply superb !!! I don’t have the words to explain…..
Aishwarya looked really really classy and extremely pretty as usual.
I hope Sarkar Raj has got a good response from the audience as I personally feel there is absolutely no need for it to fail at the box office.
Abhishek’s death nearly left me in tears….it was violent but superbly filmed. But this film was better than SARKAR as even Ash was there and she too added a golden touch !!. You three rock !!!
I hope all of you make SARKAR 3 soon and bring Abhishek back at any cost !!!! Hehe.
P.S I didn’t really understand the climax of this film. Are they trying to portray that Ash will take over Abhi’s place or Abhi’s nephew will do that ???. The part where Ash asks for a cup of “chai”….I didnt really understand. Please explain…and reply whenever possible !!.

Have not yet seen Sarkar Raj II, but according to me your best performance has been in Shakti, with Mr Dilip Kumar. The intense father-son relationship and the script had something which I feel has not come across yet in any other film of yours. Also, I think, you were marvellous in “Main Azaad Hoon” but surprisingly, this film never gets mentioned anywhere. I cannot even seem to find a DVD of this movie. I remember this movie becoming entangled with some kind of a controversy, which I cannot recollect now.

I first of all disagree with the blog by Basit Humayun. Sarkar Raj was totally different from Sarkar. Story of Sarkar was more or less aware because we had the back ground of Godfather movie.
Undoubtedly Sarkar Raj’s story did surprise many of us.
Yes Abhishek was terrific in the movie and I make a point that Abhishek is due for many awards for this performance.

Sarkar Raj - what do I tell you? Just what do I tell you? I was totally awe-struck. I will never recover. Never.
In one of the scenes, Abhishek gave Ash something to eat, it looked like a puri/vada, that is what I was eating in the cinema at the time (I had smuggled some into the auditorium, not having had time for lunch). It was exactly the same shape and size. My husband watched me eat it. Also, I was comparing Abhishek’s role in this film with the one in Bunty or Babli - when we got home Bunty Babli was showing on Sony TV.
All three of you did so well. Congratulations. So many instances in the fim that I will never get over. Very very special. Much appreciated. Only you can do it.

Qoute, “Vishva painted a rosy picture of what a Cambridge doctorate would bring, such as headship of any English department in India; THE ONLY OTHER INDIAN TO HAVE A CAMBRIDGE PHD IN ENGLISH WAS DR. Here’s a thought or two about the ignored Bacchan…..Jaya Bacchan in “Love Songs” is IT!!! The woman is brilliant and as far as I’m concerned, the ONLY Bacchan ACTOR! What is disgruntling is how you’ve chosen to ignore this brilliance in your home while hyping mediocrity vis a vis Ash!! Abhishek has moments…I think he has Jaya to thank for that. Theres a lot of sensitivity in his eyes. You have obviously perfected the technique over the years and have achieved some authenticity in your performance in the last decade or so. Especially noteworthy is The Last Lear. Having said that, its disheartening to know that the Box Office numbers is such a huge part of your egomaniacal quest to be an “actor”. Afterall, you have more than most…what with endorsements and such. Shouldn’t you now work to satisfy the soul?? The last few days,you’ve blogged and bragged about collections (albeit attributing the information to RGV)…but I wish you had taken a moment to mention Jaya and the sacrifice that she made for your children. I do not agree with a lot of the things Jaya does in her personal life, but as an actor, India’s finest. May her light shine bright!

Hi Mr. Bachchan,
Its not like I don’t enjoy the big budget hollywood summer flicks, but its almost like I am watching a 10$ movie to enjoy a 4$ popcorn. Then comes Sarkar Raj. Fantastic movie, with a good plot, solid direction and absolutely brillliant performances (especially your performance was outstanding).This is the kind of commercial cinema that one looks forward to. 2 hours of thrill, enjoyment and fun (without popcorn).
We would also love to see the combination of Amitabh Bachchan and Yash Chopra again (especially in a drama/thriller genre).

About 10 year ago (Aproximate)I read a artical about “SWAR VIGYAN” in that i read there was (Country Name I Forget) a girl was ill from her birth after some time she got good health due to listen your voice, her parents came to you for your voice cassetes sir, is it true or not , pl.tell in details due to favour of swar vigyan that i want to follow the same.

i too am from hyderabad, and i stay very close to where shyam benegal used to stay around 40 years ago (lal bazar, trimulgherry)….and made his first movie ankur.
i liked sarkar raj….don’t worry about the criticizm in your personal and professional life…..you, sachin, rahman are the bharat ratnas.
how about a geraftaar now……you, kamal haasan, rajnikant….on the lines of pushpak or malgudi days …you can make it happen, just make the wish and its gonna be the command.

There is a saying “you get what you deserve”. How true it is about Hindi films.
It appears that the Indian movie going masses are quite happy to be handed out, one after the other, very mediocre films with pretty low artistic and aesthetic content - films with mundane themes with hardly any inspirational, educational or entertainment value. Such movies rarely leave any lasting impact on the viewers.
The public does not seem to have any high expectations from films. They easily digest the substandard stuff without complaining as a result of which our film industry is never under pressure to produce anything better and sublime. Similarly on TV we have a spate of very substandard soaps successfully running for years and still being liked.
This does not speaks very highly of our present day cultural and artistic tastes and values. Many civilized societies might find such content rather offensive to their sensibilities. That is one reason our movies are hardly to be seen in world forums on films. We do not seem to worry too much about that.
It is hoped that as the education and living standards improve in our country form third world level to the forefront, we too would start rejecting such superfluous shabby stuff and our masses would demand films with some serious artistic worth and content.
Till then would be quite futile for our film industry to wait to be awarded any Oscars just like we keep on waiting for a Nobel prize or an Olympic gold medal although we may be 130 crore strong and one sixth of the total humanity living on this earth in nearly 200 countries.
Our contribution to the world of sports, cinema, arts and sciences etc is rather meager but we certainly make up for these with our massive population. In that area we proudly stand at number two in the world.

I would like to say it is very good of you to write all this. Here in the UK, we dont get much of Bollywood or anyother films from India. I find it hard to find some of your movies, and movies that your family have made. I hope that they are all well.
I havent seen your new film, as where I live in the UK, nothing like this every gets shown. Your film Bhoothnath was supposed to get shown but it never did, I was so looking forward to actually seeing that film on the Big Screen, but alas it never happened as it never gave the certifacte or how long it was, so it never got shown.
All I have to do, is wait till you new film comes out on DVD so that I can watch it, but what I have seen of it throught the trailer, it just looks great.
Thanks again for this blog, its just a great idea.

I was touched after reading the incident that happened with RGV. Life is so strange….yes it is.
Some incidents in our life, occur just to make us feel responsible, to create that urge to do something, to remind us about our path of life. And only a few people are able to understand the indications given by The Almighty .. and RGV is one of them.
I quite like RGV’s work. Rather his style of work. Brilliant work boss !!
Something very strange is happening with me. As i read your blogs, and respond to them…i visualize the whole thing in my dreams..i see u coming at my home… having dinner with the whole family…. and i often see jaya aunt in my dreams… hehehe funny na… but it happens to me..
and every morning my hubby gets irritated and tells me in advance that ‘ pls dont tell me that u saw BIG B again in your dreams”
