I have not written this article !

But strange that it reflects what I did write some time ago.

There were 2 other articles that came out in  the Times Of India. One on the current box office results and the other on the results of the game shows on TV.

I did not put them up even though they were flattering. Many among you have advised silence. I will follow them. But poetic justice is an obscure term. Sometimes we do not get it in several lifetimes. Sometimes it is more immediate.

Greater love,

Amitabh Bachchan

By the way, have you seen Shahrukh’s latest ad where he talks about “being the best”? It’s so obvious he’s trying to ape your mannerisms, your voice - it’s all so awkward and FAKE! I wonder if the poor fellow even realises how obvious the whole thing is. Hilarious!

    Dear Sir,

Thanks for sharing another GOOD article. :)

Atleast this article asks the various ‘media’ to do a bit of ’soul searching’ and ‘introspection’. :) Maybe we, as a nation, do want to start moving in the RIGHT DIRECTION! And maybe this movement will start sooner rather than later! :)

Would like to quote a WISE oriental saying (I think it is Chinese) -
‘THE BEAUTY OF LIFE IS WHATEVER YOU DO COMES BACK TO YOU!’

Warm regards and all the best today, tomorrow and always!

I think you must create something along sundance festival in India, it will just be marvelous to see your energies poured into such a endeavor. have you always been so generous with sharing yourself with others or did you cultivate it, because you do it with such ease it is just amazing to see such a buffet of fluid thought from somebody in your position. I am reading dreams from my father by barack and having similar experience. a random thought about when was the last time you wrote a love letter to jaya and will i be asking too much of you to share that with us.

    Dear Amitji

Yes… like all us have observed and will believe. Media has become a business…. sadly new channels were already considered to be crap but with highest selling dailies (newspaper) becoming product catalogs and only about bought space, print was also getting strange. Yet there are some new unnoticed newspapers coming up who talk sense and give news…. don’t know if they will survive under political pressures.

As far as the future generation is concerned, they should not judge people from tabloids or news but only from official blogs or websites where a person / corporation can officially give news or messages to whomsever concerned (POSITIVELY). Amitji, you have fortunately shifted to the motto of new generation = FREE SPACE… FREE EXPRESSION … and that availibility of the net will make it easier. Just keep it official and in control. We dont want to believe anything in print or in news even if you tell us to do so, I am sure you also know that they would never be trustworthy again.

I will again use a slogan we use for MJ (Michael Jackson - “F*** the Press, Michael Jackson is the best”) in terms with you too…. “F*** The Press… BigB blogs are the best”

    Love n’ Regards

    God Bless

    DEAR SIR,
Today I was watching IIFA and It was good to see you in it and it was a rocking show. You and your whole family were looking so elegant and gracefull.

I wanted that at the award function the film industry should have acknowledged your and JAYA madam’s contribution to the Indian cinema, your outstanding performances that have led to the growing popularity of hindi films not only in India but abroad also and to honour you for your dedication, perseverance, steadfastness and above everything all your humility which has remained intact inspite of you achieving the status of the greatest actor the country has ever produced. We love you for that and we love you for being such a nice human being.Three cheers for you and your family.
And I sincerely hope that Abhisehk sir also achieve the pinnacle of success and glory just like you did.He is a very good actor and i really really believe that he is very nice human being and just as humble as yourself(I really do not believe that he slapped a spotboy. All these things are baseless rumours spread by your detractors and critics who are really jealous of you and Abhi sir’s success) and above all that he is really smart and handsome and dashing and has his own distinctive style of acting. He has a very calm demeanour and looks really down to earth with no trace of arrogance and that is what makes him stand in the crowd.
A little suggestion for you sir to avoid the inconvenience of losing your typed work for your blog and saving time on typing.
You can record your thoughts on a small voice recorder and it can translate your voice to text. All you need to do after is proof read and put it on your blog. Hope your techies can advise you on this. The voice recorders are smaller than your cell phone and can record upto 200 hours. It has a software which can convert your voice to text when connected to your notebook. Please investigate and you will be glad to invest into it.
I remember, back in college I was writing a research paper. After hours of researching, composing, and collecting my thoughts into, what I felt, was a pretty good research paper, it somehow got deleted as I was trying to print it. I thought I had saved it, but I guess I didn’t. It didn’t even print so I didn’t have a hard copy. I never wrote a rough draft, so I had no previous version to resort to. And I really didn’t remember exactly what I wrote word for word. Sometimes the creatives juices flow spontaneously and you just want to write without stopping. You don’t want to write a rough draft. You’ve done your research, you know what you want to say and how to say it, and you go with it. That’s what I did. Unfortunately it was gone. So then I spent another few hours retyping it, but I just wasn’t satisfied with it, as the first one I wrote was written with commitment, and the second one out of anger and frustration and helplessness. It left me feeling unfulfilled as I knew my first one was better. You were lucky that your blog was recoverable.
I was very interested when you wrote about your day on the shoot of the film Shoebite. I am very nostalgic about your movies of the 70’s and the early 80’s. It would be awesome if you wrote in your blog some incidents that made the most impact on you during your shootings and your interaction with your erstwhile co-stars like Vinod Khanna, Dharmendra,Dilip Kumar Saab, the late Sanjeev Kumarji and Shashi Kapoor to name a few.
We would also love to hear some anecdotes of behind the scenes that you experienced while shooting the epic film “SHOLAY”.It is the greatest hindi film ever made and the biggest hit in the history of Indian cinema.
    Please take care.Will write again.
    BEST WISHES AND WARM REGARDS

The proliferation of news channels doesn’t necessary mean that the stories around them are proliferating as well. So they begin to ‘manufacture’ news!

How I long for the time when the daily newspaper meant to be a black and white chronicle respected for its words. And however drab Doordarshan news was at least there was a respectability attached to it. Now there is colour, a flurry of movement, a horrible choice of words and intonation (watch Aaj Tak’s use of language and you instantly want to switch channels– they murder the dignity of their profession with the sarcasm and cynicism which drips over)— and it is not merely dilution of news— it is ruthless massacre. They have only themselves to blame for the complete degradation of their dignified profession.

They overused their ‘power’ as the media, and are now reduced to laughing stock. Tell me which media house you take seriously– I can think of none.

    Mr. Bachchan,

I agree that it is great to get poetic justices especially when one has been wrong or false accused by the unscrupulous media who will apparently do any and everything for a story no matter how ridiculous it is in reality. The media needs to go back to reporting the news, facts, and truth of every given situation. The days of this fake, fabricated, malicious and over sensational media tactics need to end.

    Best wishes!!

  20. Rupa says:

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,
When a journalist or news agency publishes a malicious or false piece they should be taken to court and penalised. That is poetic justice. When political goondaism feels secure enough to openly intimidate the press, it is not only the freedom of the press but the freedom of the common man that is at stake. After all, if the climate gets vicious enough then all news agencies (who like the rest of us work for the money) will be content with covering only film festivals and sports events.

Freedom of Press is one of the pillars on which the edifice of a vibrant Democracy rests. What is happening today in India is similar to what happened in various other countries before Revolutions overthrew the despotic regimes that took away the Freedom of Press. But the most intriguing thing about the whole scenario is that not only the ruling party but even people not in power are taking out cudgels against the “Fourth Estate”. But then the press also has to act in a responsible manner. All said and done, we are having worst form of press - intimidation here in Andhra Pradesh, which is unparalleled in the annals of history. The tirade against Eenadu & Andhra Jyothi is just a tip of the ice-berg.

Thank you for posting this article and I absolutely agree with the author. Finally! A COMPETENT journalist. Somebody who is reporting on fact and not FICTION. The journalists in India need to distance themselves from the Paparazzi. Before you report, get your FACTS straight! Its because of false reports generated by lazy journalists, who don’t do enough research before writing their story, that Media as a whole is getting a bad name. If this keeps up, it definitely will lose any respect that it currently garners from the public.

As a journalist, it is their RESPONSIBILITY to inform us of the happenings in this world that we would otherwise be ignorant of. If the Media itself becomes ignorant, then why should we pay any attention to it???

  26. Deepak Bhardwaj says:

With lots and lots of respect Sir—I haven’t written you since last four days and something is missing terribly in my life. It is like missing your daily meditation, whether you read it or not, I have to write you every day. But I didn’t miss reading, I read it everyday what you wrote.

Sir, why are you overly concerned about the concert and whether or not you would be able to deliver or not. Sir- we love, adore and admire and respect you so much that even if you just stand on the stage holding the mike and just talk to the audience would be more than enough. Don’t you worry too much about getting the dance steps right or anything like that. I just want to see you on the stage or rather I should say your darshan on the stage live in front of my eyes. Darshan is the right word to express my feelings towards you.

Sir, I am not too sure if I am right here but let me point it out to you———this quote from one of Babujee’s poem that is showing on the website “ Main chupana jaanta to jag mujhe saadhu samajta, shatru ban gaya hai mera , chal rahit vavahar mera.

I think Mera does not come twice in the second line. I think it is Shatru ban gaya hai chal rahit vavahar mera. I might not be correct but seems like mera only comes once.

We watched Baaghban today again and you made us cry again. In the Holi song, there are lyrics between you and Sharat Saxana, where he says some strange words to encourage you to apply color to Hema Malini and than you say some strange words to show your hesitation and than you walk to Hema Malini and do apply color. That part was done so nicely. I believe these lyrics were also from Babujee’s poetry and I wonder if these strange lyrics (incredibly going with the mood of the song and the situation in the film) were part of his poetry or some other lyrics writer incorporated them in the song. Or may be you suggested it but the end result was amazing, I love that part.

Sir, how is Abhishek doing? You didn’t tell us anything, all you said was he is unwell I would guess it must be viral flu. I hope he is feeling better.

How is the water condition at your home? I had really liked what you had written few days ago about the water condition when Mid day had asked you to write. You sounded so compassionate to fellow human beings and my respect for you grew more when I read that you have accommodated few people from your staff in your premises. I read out that part to my mother and she was also touched.

I watched Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic yesterday and I am sure you haven’t yet. It’s a nice movie and there is a scene in the movie, where Rani( Angel) explains to kids how God has some point system in place for every human being. How we get plus point and minus point whenever we do something good or bad. I was thinking about you , how much plus points you would have by doing the right and correct thing in every situation in life and influencing millions and millions people. One can guess how many plus points you already have, look how many people love you. Look what happened when you met an accident in 1982.
Sometime you know I talk to people in my family and friend circle about you and I am surprised at the observation people make. They might not be well read or well spoken people and they might not be necessarily your fans but I would often hear something like ——— Amitabh Bachchan is not like other stars, he doesn’t talk nonsense— Amitabh Bachchan dekh lo ek dum khatam ho gaya tha, par phir se kaisa ek dum se waapas aa gaya, taarif karne kee baat hai. And my heart fills with pride and more and more respect for you. You came with lots of plus points that you were born to parents like Babujee and Maanjee and than my God that kind of plus points you would have in God’s swiss bank. I sincerely think that you were gone in 1982 but first time ever God had to change his mind because of millions people’s prayer and if that is not having lots of plus points what it is.

You have often said that at the time when you were going down, at bankruptcy time, Mr. Amar Singh jee was with you. Sir—I was with you at that time as well. My prayers and my good wishes were with you at that time. I haven’t left you since 1977 and will NEVER.

I am jumping from one topic to another but Sir— your Indore video was quite scary. I didn’t see any of your personal bodyguards around you (I recognize all of them) and the way you were in the middle of millions people, anything could have happened. I understand they all love you but still Sir, we needed to take precautions there. I was scared for you safety when I watched the footage.

Its been pointed out to me that people in my town have read my comments to you and some of them had made fun of me through third party but that is not going to stop me from expressing my feelings towards you. I would consider myself fortunate if I am ridiculed for admiring you.

Sir—I called Ms. Rosy Singh yesterday, I was quite impressed the way my phone call was answered. The person who answered the phone call, very politely said “ Namaskar” in Hindi and I love talking to people in Hindi. He told me that she is not going to be in today and asked me if I wanted to leave a message. Sometime I think if I was still in India and living in Mumbai, I would have walked to your office and ask for a job. At least that way I would be guaranteed to see you once a day or so.

Take good care of yourself. With lots and lots of respect Sir- Deepak from Vancouver Canada

  28. Satyam says:

This is a useful piece in many ways. As for the question of remaining silent I personally find it hard to support such a choice, even if I can sometimes understand the strategic importance of this. The reason simply is that ’silence’ is a very ambiguous thing by definition and can be interpreted in various ways. But also those who have always been your lifelong supporters desire and expect more than ’silence’. I disagree with those who confuse this issue with some notion of the ‘dignified’. This de-politicizes, indeed de-voices you. Often those who are hardly sincerely committed to your interests use this line of argument cynically (this too argues against it; one might be ‘co-opted’). On the other hand there are true ‘fans’ who think you should simply remain above the fray. With the latter course you can see the results and so should your ‘fans’. When you remained silent the media did not cease attacking you or ‘defaming’ you but kept doing so on a continual basis. I am not sure therefore what the ’silence’ achieved.

Recently on the eve of the Sarkar Raj release Abhishek stated that he had put on weight once again after Guru (even if not to the same extent) on the instructions of Ram Gopal Varma. He added that many in the media criticized him for not being ‘fit’ but he had not clarified things as he felt there was no point to it. But note what happened. For months the media kept referring snidely to his weight issues. He revealed the truth on this anyway. He could have done this much earlier! The film industry is unfortunately not an institution that rewards subtlety and discretion! Nor is (and let’s be frank!) the Indian audience anymore delicate in terms of registering the same! Things have to be laid out. One need to be vulgar as many others are in the interests of blatant self-promotion. But one should also never make the mistake of assuming the media does not exist or that it can simply be ignored. Once again the Sarkar Raj campaign was well handled in all of its aspects and this ought to be the template going forward.

Since I have brought in Abhishek I should take a moment here to congratulate him on his latest Motorola and Idea ads. The Motorola ones are always brilliant. I believe these are among the best anywhere in the world for their genuine subversion. The new Idea ad is also a very heartwarming one. I loved their first one as well with Abhishek playing the mukhia (again a very subversive message here), didn’t like the second Taj Mahal one as much. But the Motorola ads are just so zany. The new one with the Tamil superhit song, Appadi Podu, is a total riot!

It really is a Sad state of affairs as far as the journalists are concerned. Imagine all these things happening to them and no one has mentioned it, or raised a voice against it, except the journalists themselves.

It his high time that the media and it’s barons do some soul searching. It will be for their benefit. If I can say so…the channel that started this degradation of the press (print and TV) is AajTak and Headlines Today. Basicly the Today Network.

All such side effects of Reality shows is not just because of the shows itself but also because of parents pushing their child beyond limits to achieve something this is just achievable by the child. But because parents want to show off in the society they are pushing their children in all areas of life be it studying, dancing, exercising, etc.

This is one of the reason why DEPRESSION is a common syndrome in children living in Metropolis.

Ultimately I would not blame this totally on Reality Shows.

    BLAME IT ON PARENTS also.

At one level, it is the change in society (a dumbing down, in my opinion), which has now reached an interesting stage where we value “instant” over dissent, debate and discussion. Analysis is painful, you have to consider several sides, it takes time and thought, are we doing it? Who has the time? We look for instant solutions. Media is also part of society, right? So the same standards and same approach, why should we be surprised? Yes, once upon a time, media was supposed to be credible and above reproach.

A very introspective article !!! The proliferation of tv news channels and newspapers has created a very competitive environment…In their eagerness to grab eyeballs, journalists sometimes create news and indulge in sensationalist reporting…Over a long period of time this has led to a corrosion of values and the integrity of most of the news media is now suspect. Most articles lack objectivity and are a manifestation of the writer’s individual prejudices or his political affiliations. In such a scenario, one cannot help but be indifferent to the attacks on the fourth estate…This only makes the system weaker as the press or the fourth estate is one of the pillars of any democracy…The need of the hour is for someone from the press to put their hands up and start reporting only the truth irrespective of the consequences and market themselves as such…I’m sure that the Indian public is discerning enough to choose the authentic newspapers and channels and in the long run this would translate to “business”.

I think we all including myself are responsible for the undue attention given to media and its tricks.. it is fast paced world and everyone is this rat race of getting richer with less efforts..Even the latest race of bollywood doing all the stunts to get that instant limelight !!! it is so temporary … Also Amount of reality shows which are pouring on TV shows it all. We love to copy , and success of the one reality show is making everyone copy the same format so much so that even the judges use the same word ” Mind Blowing ” !! I think we should just stop or ignore the reality shows or excesses of news channel where in they make us believe everything other than the truth.

    Sir
Good that some body has written this article in Biz Std. I 100% agree with you and firmly believe that this is a serious problem. All these guys are reporting fake information for their own benefit or because of money or favour received. This is the third most corrupt piller after politician and police. They are going down the drain by writing what suites them and not what is correct.
I have read TOI’s article about BoxOffice report which has SR as third biggest hit for year just behind JA & Race. Also analysis on game shows which clearly shows Panchvi Paas etc are not doing well at all. Actually Panchvi Pass is even behind Salman’s Dus Ka Dum (Salman is doing a good job there). But some guys continue to report that show is doing well, second season is coming - for what to make more losses.
But slowly people have started realising what is correct and what is wrong and don’t get influenced with the everyday crap. What ever may be written but people are not fools.

  66. Anurag says:

Well thanks to Business Standard who came up with this article. But I think there are other reasons than have been said in this article. They are as follows:

Who owns the media in India ?

There are several major publishing groups in India, the most prominent
among them being the Times of India Group, the Indian Express Group, the
Hindustan Times Group, The Hindu group, the Anandabazar Patrika Group, the
Eenadu Group, the Malayalam Manorama Group, the Mathrubhumi group, the
Sahara group, the Bhaskar group, and the Dainik Jagran group.

Let us see the ownership of different media agencies.

NDTV: A very popular TV news media is funded by Gospels of Charity in Spain
supports Communism. Recently it has developed a soft corner towards
Pakistan because Pakistan President has allowed only this channel to be
aired in Pakistan. Indian CEO Prannoy Roy is co-brother of Prakash Karat,
General Secretary of Communist party of India. His wife and Brinda Karat are
    sisters.

India Today which used to be the only national weekly who supported BJP is
now bought by NDTV!! Since then the tone has changed drastically and turned
    into Hindu bashing.

CNN-IBN: This is 100 percent funded by Southern Baptist Church with its
branches in all over the world with HQ in US. The Church annually allocates
$800 million for promotion of its channel. Its Indian head is Rajdeep
Sardesai and his wife Sagarika Ghosh.

    Times group list:
Times Of India, Mid-Day, Nav-Bharth Times, Stardust, Femina, Vijaya Times,
Vijaya Karnataka, Times now (24- hour news channel) and many more. Times
Group is owned by Bennet & Coleman. ‘World Christian Council’ does 80
percent of the Funding, and an Englishman and an Italian equally share
balance 20 percent. The Italian Robertio Mindo is a close relative of Sonia
    Gandhi.

Star TV: It is run by an Australian, who is supported by St. Peters
    Pontificial Church Melbourne.

Hindustan Times: Owned by Birla Group, but hands have changed since Shobana
Bhartiya took over. Presently it is working in Collobration with Times
    Group.

    The Hindu:
English daily, started over 125 years has been recently taken over by
Joshua Society, Berne, Switzerland. N.Ram’s wife is a Swiss national.

Indian Express: Divided into two groups.

The Indian Express and new Indian Express (southern edition)

ACTS Christian Ministries have major stake in the Indian Express and later
is still with the Indian counterpart.

Eeenadu: Still to date controlled by an Indian named Ramoji Rao. Ramoji Rao
is connected with film industry and owns a huge studio in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Jyothi: The Muslim party of Hyderabad known as MIM along with a
Congress Minister has purchased this Telgu daily very recently.

The Statesman: It is controlled by Communist Party of India. Kairal TV: It
is controlled by Communist party of India (Marxist)

Mathrubhoomi: Leaders of Muslim League and Communist leaders have major
    investment.

Asian Age and Deccan Chronicle: Is owned by a Saudi Arabian Company with
    its chief Editor M.J. Akbar.

The ownership explains the control of media in India by foreigners. The
    result is obvious.

I’m writing here as there doesn’t seem to be any other place to leave a generic comment.
I am, like millions of others, a huge fan of the true King of Indian cinema. What makes me special you ask? I’ll tell you :o)
Many eons ago, during a photo shoot being shot by Dabboo Ratnani on the streets of Bombay, Mr Bachchan was going about his work as usual. I know Dabboo really well and pestered him to allow me to be a silent observer :o) He knew better of it but my puppy dog eyes must have melted him because he allowed me with the express condition that under NO circumstances was I to embarrass him in front of Mr B. I agreed. And then promptly forgot :o)
The shoot spanned almost the entire morning and at the fag end of the shoot we reached Sterling cinema where Mr B would sit on the steps of the theater….
I saw a playing card on the street and picked it up. It was the King of Hearts. It was filthy and it looked like it had been to very questionable places :o)
It was like I was having an out of body experience….but I just mustered up my courage and walked over to Mr B who was getting his make-up retouched. (Dabboo looked like he would have liked to see me 6 feet under but he couldn’t get to me on time :o) )
When I reached Mr B, he gave me one of the warmest smiles I have EVER seen and said hi! I just looked at him, gave him the filthy playing card and said ” You truly are the King of Hearts” (At this point Dabboo was dying a painful death) After I had done that I realised what I had actually done! I had given the great Mr B a filthy playing card from the street and delivered the corniest line ever!!Oh lordy!!! I literally ran back to the other side of the street!
During the entire shot, i was feeling like a complete idiot! But then when the shoot was done, Mr B walked towards me, and on a tissue paper that I was holding, he wrote ” To the Princess, Much Love, Amitabh”
I was floored!!! That should have been my cue to shut up but of course I didn’t! I actually had the gall to say” Princess? Can’t I be Queen?” ( sigh….) and he smiled his warm smile and said ” I wish, but that place is for Jaya” :o)
In that singular moment - for me - he truly became Big B :o)
There are millions of fans who adore him and I’m convinced I’m not his number 1 fan….but for that one moment - he made me feel like he was mine :o)
I have the utmost regard and respect for a man who has stayed the course through adversities and still come out upright. The press and other people who are envious of you can say what they want - You rock!
Keep going Mr B - like you said in “Koffee with Karan” - your best is truly yet to come.
    Many warm hugs,
    your Princess :o)

Kindly detail us some information on the same. When are these movies releasing, are the promos about to be aired shortyly? Please be kind to answer my queries.
Goo to see another triumph of yours over Mid Day. Some people know they can’t beat the lion but they still never leave the race!!!!!! Anyways, let them ponder over useless issues while you keep marching from spectacular movies to dramatic achievements.
Reality shows are really becoming filthy these days. They show false arguments just for the sake of TRP, they demean the participants for no reason. Most importantly the credibility of the people judging these shows may be questioned. I think one can only judge another talent if someone is exceptionally superior in the field. Otherwise you’ve to judge like the common public who goes through the notions.
I believe in Bernard Shaw’s saying when it comes to politics - “Politics is a third class game played by fourth class people”.

    Dear Mr. Bachchan,

yea the article mentions many things that you talked about several times…as i mentioned in the previous post, i believe that the media has an important task to shape the minds and thought of the nation, it forms ideologies, consolidate them, it has a role to play in the developing of the nation on various levels.
but now as bussiness has come to be the sole concern, media has lost its task…it is not a profession anymore. but rather it misguides and misleads.

i believe that silence is gold…yea, but i also believe that sometimes we need to retort back, to reply…it is only when we have to be silent, and when we have to reply back. things like these fabricated topics, i think, should be neglected because they don’t deserve your attention. there are more important things that deserves your attention and your energy.

if there are few people who might attack you, or might be against you…there are lots of other people who love you, trust you, and believe in you…actually they outnumber those who are against you.
