New York, NYC July 30, 2008 11:45 am
I plan to step out of the room in a short while. Seems incongruous does it not, to be in this great city and not move out of your room ! But i shall venture out to the gym across the street to see how my body fares. It will be the first after I came out from India, which is horrendous. Illness kept me away. Time to get the body in shape again.
There have been however some committed comments from fellow bloggers and I thought it would be nice to respond to some picked randomly. The demand for more photographs is increasing and I am compiling some more, though this is not being received very well by the photographer since she has been assigned to do a book on the Tour and feels all her work is going out to the world before time.
So to -
gosh !! there has been a huge error ! I had selected all the names at random, highlighted them and stored them on desktop. Now that i open desktop they are not there. Horror !! This is so annoying and frustrating. I need a desperate course in computer training rather urgently !! O ! dear o dear o dear !!
Alright found some -
Prateek Thakkar - from bangalore, journo intern and your request for something in the South of India. Yes we shall put it up for consideration with the organisors.
Philip Vaz - thank you for the quotes and the old kahavats. I do not think we should draw conclusions on this. That is not ethical.
Jhanu - sorry you felt we did not wave out to the 100 $ seats. We wave out to everyone and we do not know where the 100$ seat is. Also the lights are so strong in the face that we cannot see at times. But apologies if you felt that way. Here is a special wave for you.. got it !!
Jayant Chatterji - from New Delhi - thank you for your story and your meeting with Amjad and your uncle Anil da. I shall inform Jaya about it.
Ajit - thank you for your copy on the Rajdeep Sardesai comment. I think it is very pertinent and honest of him to have admitted to all that he said.
Rajiv N - from Mauritius, thank you for connecting and for your good wishes. Your country and its people hold a very special place in my heart.
Kaushik Ray - you spoil me with your comments on the elixir and aphrodisiac of life. I am certainly not deserving of them.
Payal - yes your entries are seen and read and appreciated and i wish to thank you for your sentiments. So for you 3rd time lucky. My feet are not deserving of your grace.
Vijay - from Surat Gujarat, thank you for the message. This is to wish your wife all the best. Happiness and joy always.
OK.. enjoy the photos on DAY 98(i)
My love as ever…
Amitabh Bachchan

Dear Amit ji
Congratulations on a wonderful show in LA. My husband and I were there and loved the show…especially the part where you won the won the crowd over with your beautiful dialogues…loved it! I think the crowd came alive during that part (crowd looked a little sleepy until then). I really feel the crowd could have done a lot better with their applause..hmph! I applaud you for coming on to the stage and delivering such a brilliant performance despite being sick..hats off!
On a different note, I love your style of writing on your blog. I know you’ll say you have no particular style but I’ll still say i love your style. With the kind of work you do and considering your popularity, you are either praised or abused, i’m sure you encounter the extremes in everything. At times it may be difficult to let some things go. I would like to suggest a book that talks about little and not so little things in life and how you can perhaps shrug it off. You may have heard of this book before - “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff–and it’s all small stuff†by Richard Carlson. Its a wonderful book.
I hope you feel better very soon. Enjoy the rest of the tour!
Love and best wishes.

Amit ji,
Hope your gym session went well! The photos you posted are great but would like to see more of you. While I am on I would just like to share something with you! I remember back when I was about 13 years old, must have been 1982 possibly, you were doing a show at the Wembley Arena, London. there was no way I was going to be able to attend the show, my parents were strict muslims & were not to keen on exposing their daughter to any kind of singing & dancing shows (Its a wonder they let me watch hindi movies) - anyway on the evening of your show I try to ring the Arena & asked to speaked to yourself, the woman on the other end immediately told me there was 0% chance of this. I had used a phone box & spent my pocket money on the phone call & was so disappointed! When I think back to this event of over 25 years ago I think I must have been so naive to think that I would be able to speak to you. Now nearly at the age of 40 you realise what is possible & what is not! I may never be able to meet you or speak to you but please please please please please please please please please just say “”HELLO”" to me. It really would be a dream come true!!!!
Lots of Love

Wow Amit Uncle,
So many thank-yous and all, mera number kab aayega..!!!
Wow, excellent blog entry earlier today though. Yes, you are right, everything is documented here. From the first sonograms of the baby to every graduation be it fourth grade or high school to every moment of one’s life, I see my aunts do that to their kids. Every piano recital, no matter how pitiful is stored for posterity. Yes, In India we rarely document, we only recite. Like my trip to Chandigarh, such a vibrant culture and so many old Punjabi folk songs, but no recordings, just memories of the aunties, their enthusiasm and perverseness too. All in good fun.
I am glad you are having such a great time. We in US are absolutely starved of our country and to have a chance of seeing someone like you is to create an oasis in deepest reaches of the barren Sahara. I just can’t believe that I let it go. Probably the arrogance or hope of youth, that better times will come and one day I shall get to see you.
Please put up some snaps of Jaya aunty and photos that you captured - your personal collection of the US trip. I am sure you have a digital camera - if you don’t I will be compelled to send one to Pratiksha. Really, everyone has one, so does my 5 year old cousin. Its actually pretty hilarious, my mom and dad have similar problems with the computer, they saved something - its gone, they pressed a button - it disappeared and they often get scolded, very good naturedly, but now seeing your predicament, I understand that things happen. To me, I cannot believe how something can just disappear off the computer screen, but I guess it happens.
It is apparent you are having a fantastic time, albiet for the tongue sores etc. but no pain - I guess, no gain. Your energy and enthusiasm rivals the youngsters also. God bless..!!!!!
Sincerely,
Ghunoo
P.S. Mera number aayega

Hi Amit Uncle,
Thank you for the nice pics…When you came to open the tour in Toronto, I didn’t bring my camera because I wasn’t sure if we were allowed to. I’ve been to many shows in the past where we weren’t allowed to …BUT I had my camera phone…the pics weren’t all that great as I was in the stands behind the floor seats…but I tried to record Akshay’s speech…I missed part cuz I forgot to hit record. Anyhoo…I’m glad to hear that you are out and about and starting to feel better. I have a question, but I am afraid to state it here as I don’t want Abhishek bhaiyya to bombarded with emails and messages. My email address is attached to my post. If you happen to read my post, I would appreciate it if you could email me so that I may ask the question in private.
Thank you Amit Uncle. My Salaam’s to all.

Welcome to NY! Sorry I wouldn’t be able to see your show since I will be away from NY for a while. Although I had always wanted to see you when I was growing up as kid in my country (think 80’s) I have now drifted away from Bollywood and somehow seem never to find the time for any shows (even though I must admit you are the only one I remember). But I still would like to see you someday.

Hi Mr. Bachchan
Wish you a speedy recovery. I started reading your blog a few weeks ago . Belive it or not I went back and read your blog entries from day 1. The contents in the blog are intresting and thought provoking. I was touched by the entries about your father and about his teaching “man ka ho to accha, na ho to zaada accha”. It makes you accept what you do not get with ease.
The more I read your blog the more I want to see you perform in the unforgettable tour. I live in Dallas, so wanted to see you in Houston.
But there are times whan you have to decide between dil and dimag. I had to decide with my dimag this time. I have a 9month old daughter and it will not be good for her to be in the auditorium with loud noise for 4 hours. Hence had to give up my dream.
I don’t know in this situation man ka nahi hua to kaise accha hai. Anyways,
I just wanted to ask you if you are going to make a DVD of your unforgettable tour, for people like me who could not make it to your show.
Have a great show.

Dear Sir,
Needless to say i am your greatest fan….
I m copy-pasting few jokes i came across browsing….hope it brings some comfort to the fatigue brought in by this strenous tour…
•A boy goes to a strip club. His mom gets angry & asks him: Did u see anything there that u were not supposed to see?
Boy: Yes, I saw dad!
• Aftr robbing d Bank, robber 2 clerk: Did u see me robbing?
Clerk: Yes.
Robber shot him dead & asked d next clerk: Did u?
2nd clerk: No, But my wife saw u!
• Newly divorced woman explaining reason for splitting: We had religious differences - he thought he was God, I didn’t.
• A cute Nurse came 4 the interview.
Dr: What salary U Xpect?
Nurse: Rs.10,000.
Dr was overjoyed & said: My Pleasure.
Nurse: With pleasure it’s 25,000
• Q: What’s the difference between a good lawyer and a great lawyer?
A: A good lawyer knows the law. A great lawyer knows the judge.
• Two women were talking about their new milkman.
First: He’s very good looking, punctual & dresses so smartly.
And so quickly too!, said the other.
• Two old ladies were attending a rather long church service. One leaned over & whispered: My butt is going to sleep. ‘I know,’ replied the other, ‘I heard it snore three times.’
• Teacher: Four beautiful girls are walking on the road. Change it to exclamatory sentence.
Student: WOW !
• Pappu: Mom, when I was on the bus with Dad this morning, he told me to give up my seat to a lady.
Jeeto: Well, you have done the right thing.
Pappu: But mom, I was sitting on daddy’s lap.
• The Smiths were dining out when his wife noticed a familiar face at the bar.
“Honey,” she said as she pointed the guy out, “That guy at the bar has been drinking like that since I left him seven years ago.”
Her husband said, “That’s silly, no one celebrates that much!”
Sir, Pls write back if u get time and let me know if u liked it.

Today is Wednesday and the concert was this past Saturday in LA. My friends and family and I still cannot stop talking about it. Truly UNFORGETTABLE! Thank you for making my sister’s dream come true in San Francisco. She travelled all the way from Michigan to see you and she was the one who you stopped and took a picture with in the hotel as you were leaving for the concert. I am so exited to hear that a book is being made about the tour. Also I read that NDTV is making a documentary on a behind the scenes look with a full concert also. I hope a DVD is released on this. You are amazing. Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your tour.

Dear Mr. Bachchan,
Hope you are doing well. It’s nice to hear that the shows are going so successfully. However, I was wondering that if the shows really are such a success, why has the Vancouver show been cancelled? I’m from Canada, and was intending to go to the Vancouver show. Is it because the ticket sales were low? On behalf of all your western Canadian fans, I’d greatly appreciate it if you could explain why this show has been cancelled. It seems unfair to have promised to do this show, and then cancel it and not provide a reason.
Also, just a reminder to you — I had posted a few weeks ago about global warming. Again, while I laud your efforts at raising awareness of the issue, you should also note that the amount of air travel you and your tour colleagues are doing for this tour, is in fact contributing to pollution and global warming in a very significant way. Perhaps you should consider that before going on tours and preaching about global warming. It seems a double standard.
I hope you reply!
Thanks,
Tasneem

It kind of sucks that you arent staying in NJ because now there won’t be a chance of me getting lucky and running into you on the streets and maybe getting a picture with you, but may be some other time. I was wondering though, will there be a documentary type dvd on this show with behind the scenes and things of that sort? We see the final result on stage, but it would be a treat to see what goes on behind the scenes, and see what kind of things you do in the very little free time you get on these tours. Hope I’m one of the lucky ones to get a reply in the next post, in the mean time take care and enjoy the greatest city on the world.

Dear Amitji,
Just two days ago I logged on to your blog………..and have read through your daily journal of the last couple of weeks. Needless to say its fun - and strangely gives a sense of “connectedness” ……which is what fans and audiences so keenly look forward to. I am enjoying the show through your eyes and through posted pictures - wonder why Washington DC was not included? am sure we would have gathered up a crowd here too……..
Good luck! and keep well

Dear Sir
In 1985 while studying at a jr. college, I fell in love with a girl studying with me and residing not very far from my residence. I never had the guts to tell her my feelings about her. One day she informed me that she wish to come to my house to borrow some books. I knew she was a big fan of yours. I was not a big movie buff at that time. A plan came to my mind. I rushed to the nearby market and bought a lot of your card sized photographs and pasted them on the walls of my room. There were more than 50 photos I pasted that afternoon. She arrived.. she was so impressed, the entire evening she was talking about you and your films. I could feel she has started liking me.Probably she might have thought we shared the same passion - Amitabh Bachhan. Then gradually we came close to each other. One fine day I confessed my love to her. She accepted. I always cherish this memory. In the process of impressing her further I started watching your movies, started liking them and finally I turned your ardent fan. Seen all your movies so far. Not only as an actor or a superstar but you being a humble, sensitive and responsible human being & citizen multiplied my respect towards you and heighten the sense of pride of being your fan. Today my little daughters like watching your movies. They like Abhishek & Aishwarya too.
Sir, I wish you, Jaya ji, Abhishek & Aishwarya all the happiness of LIFE!
Thankyou for entertaining us and in the process teaching us modesty and all those good qualities a superstar in hollywood or in our bollywood normally is not suppose to possess.
Best regards

Dear Harsh,
To my mind the lines by Bachchan ji simply wonder as to what would it be like on the other side of the curtain (death), and unfamiliarity of that side compared to the familiarity on this side appears makes one wonder even more if there will anything even remotely similar to what one is familiar with.
And the perennial question keeps haunting one — if death is the end or the new beginning or somewhere between the two.
Rest our dear Mr. Bachchan would explain as to what he makes of it.
Yours Truly,
HemRaj Singh

Dear Mr. Bachchan ,
I get pleasantly surprised to note that you select comments of fans & go on to respond to them as well . With your kind of hectic schedule , how do you get time to read all the comments being written here / even a few of them ? There have been reports earlier in the section of press in India that the texts written on the blogs by Superstars are not really written by them but by their helpers . However , reading your texts here ( the honesty of expression & the childlike innocense / simplicity of narration ) , I get a feeling that it could be coming from you only . A helper can put events / thoughts / feelings into sentences but can not live them the way you do . I only wish to get to read more & more from you . It would be so great to learn from your experiences of life & your exposer to the world & times .
The above thought also pushes me to ask you about various image building / brandbuilding efforts done by people in showbiz to remain in limelight / news all the time . Most of the times , it does not even matter to them what is the need / relevance of the matter at an hour . There seems to be a belief growing - ‘ any publicity is good publicity ‘ . In past , we have seen some unpleasant remarks done on you too by such people . What is your stand on such kind of publicity idea / today’s promotional tactics of people thru media & other plateforms ?
best regards ,
Malay M.

I feel so happy today knowing you have gone for a workout, this is a sign you are getting better and the energy has started kicking in. I continue to pray so that the your batteries
get fully charged again. SFO is on fire after your departure and people are still in a daze.
A mania has taken hold and it seems like I have witnessed a historical event. Glad I could attend the show with my small family as I have preserved the tickets for nostalgia, or documentation in American fashion as you have mentioned earlier. But this ticket stub will be accompanied with a verbal account of the day for generations to come by me, my wife and daughter in a way that only Indians can do. Until next time, Nomoskar

THE MEANING OF DR. HARIVANSH RAI BACHCHAN’S COUPLET IS DEEP. I WILL TRY TO EXPLAIN-
1. THIS SIDE THERE IS SWEET LIFE LIKE HONEY ALONG WITH THE COMPANY OF BELOVED, WHAT WILL BE THAT SIDE NOBODY KNOWS. (IT SPEAKS ABOUT THE UNCERTAINTY OF LIFE).
2. AFTER CONSUMING MADHU (SHARAB), I SEE MY BELOVED. BUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN ONCE I COME OUT OF THIS INTOXICATION. MY BELOVED WILL NOT BE THERE (THIS SPEAKS ABOUT MAYA, THE REALITY OF WORLD ie THE WORLD IS UNREAL ANDTRANSIENT.
3. IT SPEAKS ABOUT THE REALITY OF LIFE AND DEATH. “IS PAAR” MEANS LIFE. “US PAAR” means death.Life is sweet like madhu (honey) but death is enigma. Nobody knows what happens about death.
This interpretation is mine- I don’t claim that this, and only this is a correct interpretation. Amitabh ji may explain better BECAUSE HE HAS READ MADHUSHALA COMPLETELY, I HAVE NOT.

Dear Amitji,
Ever since the days when I could understand movies till today, I have seen almost all your movies. The acting, those simple yet very superb dance steps ( DON, Sharabi, Yarana )the songs to which you lent your voice, the Miss World pageant in Bangalore, the TV show - I just admire your patience, perseverance and sheer guts with which you have covered this distance in life.
If the movies showed the actor in you, the blog shows your down to earth attitude - your writing is just amazing. The language, the phrases are inspiring.
Please perform in Bangalore.

Thanks for posting photos again. Kindly do post more.. sp.. madhuri’s. Mean while, take good care of your health.
I could not attend your show @ Oakland. My kid fell sick and was demanding my full attention. The same day when you had landed at SF airport, my hubby was there with my friend to pick her husband. I had earlier expressed my wish to accompany him to airport(something in my mind was telling me to go). He grinned over and said ” Why entire family has to come to pick up one guy?”Like an obedient girl, stayed back @ home with 2 kids clinging to me. On the way back from airport, my friend spotted you and Abhishek (arranging luggage in car). She started to scream… and immediately she called me & told this incident. Now U can imagine how mad I was…………..
I have more to write.. but have to go.. lunch break and colleagues r calling me..
Pl don’t exaggerate yourself at the gym. Take good care..
Bye & my prayers r with U..

Hello,
Congrats for the great success of all the shows till now. I always wanted to make it for the show but this time also couldn’t. Thanks for the image.
A small REQUEST! Could you/team please add Detroit as a part of the schedule next time? Yes, Chicago is nearby but still 5 hrs drive from Lansing. Gas prices make it impossible.
Till now none of the Bollywood shows are performed here. Like SF there are umpteen number of Indians here (Michigan is second highest after CA). Thousands of your fan would be happy. It would great if our consider my request.
Best Wishes,

Mr Bachchan Sir:
I am one one of your biggest fans (more for younger days) and I have always wanted to ask you this question: As an actor you have had the greatest roles. Some of my favorites include, Jai in Sholay (by the way, just the eye contact between you & Jayaji were the most romantic scenes ever), Vijay in Deewar, Trishul & Shakti, and Vicky Baboo in Sharabhi. But in my opinion, your greatest role was Sikander in MKS, it displayed all your talents. My question is what was your favorite character/role you played in the 70s-80s?
I believe when you were on top, there is/was no actor in the world historically that could match you in terms of acting and looks. You were this mythical/mysterious figure at that time and I think you have lost that because of over-exposure recently.

——— AUDIENCE FEEDBACK FROM LA ON UNFORGETTABLE TOUR —————
Hello Amitji,
First of all thank you for coming live in front of your loving audience after so many years.
My name is Nauzad Sadry. I am a well-known singer and event manager in Los Angeles. It was a pleasure to watch your show on Saturday from the VVIP area. I wanted to offer a professional feedback to your LA show & would really appreciate if you could convey my message to Wizcraft.
From personal experience I know that producing & performing in a show of this magnitude is not an easy job. At the same time I understand how valuable productive feedback & constructive criticism can be. Amitji, the feedback below is something I have gathered from almost everyone that I met that night or after (from close to 1000 people). So it is not just a personal opinion.
Pros - The good things
* Amitabh Bachchan - Your own performance was simply outstanding. Considering that you were not in the best of health, you put up a mind blowing performance. Everyone loved your singing with Rang Barse taking the honors. The crowning jewel of your performance was your dialogue monologue. Simply brilliant. Sir you speak those dialogues with the same intensity (may be better) as you did 20-30 yrs ago. God Bless You & we request more dialogue-baazi in your future films.
* Fantastic & sensational production values. The lights, the stage, the sound, the grandeur was something people have never seen before in an Indian show. Credit to the A/V team .. surely an unforgettable setup
* Madhuri Dixit - She was just magical .. Her grace, her energy & her expressions were a lesson for all youngsters. Everyone wished to see more of her in the show. Also one missed an item featuring Amitabh Bachchan & Madhuri Dixit (something to consider for remaining shows)
* Abhishek Bachchan - Everyone appreciated his energetic efforts in the show. We all know that he is not the best dancer, but he gave his 100% & that really counts. However he needs to learn all his dance steps well. He was goofing up at many places.
Cons - The disappointing aspects
* Complete lack of continuity & energy - Amitji you & everyone in your team must have noticed that except a few youngsters no one was standing up & cheering the performances continuously. Thats because there was no continuity in the show, there were breaks after every act & by and large there was no sustained energy in the show. As we say in show business “show tight nahi thaâ€. We were expecting a “non-stop†bonanza full of energy for at least the last 1 to 2 hrs. That was sadly missing. As a performer myself, I know how difficult it is to get people to dance & clap in the 1st place. The Golden rule is never let them sit once you get the people on the dance floor. I would really appreciate if you could communicate this message to Wizcraft. Please ask them to differentiate between putting up performances at IIFA & those in a Live show. It appeared as if I was watching an IIFA or Filmfare award show. If possible please rework the show in such a way that the audience gets a boost of “non-stop†entertainment in the 2nd half at least.
* Aishwariya Rai - She was the no.1 disappointing artist of the evening. Her energy was completely missing, no grace, no expressions, nothing. It appeared as if she was doing a “favor†to the audience by performing. Sorry to sound harsh Amitji - I know she is your laadli bahu, but as an artist she is where she is because of her loyal fans & she owes them a charismatic performance. She did well in Dola Re Dola because of Madhuri Dixit’s presence. She is the lead female artist of your show & needs to pull up her socks. Very disappointing.
* Shiamak Davar’s choreography - Shiamak Davar’s name spells well-choreographed stage shows around the world. However the dancers were really going through the motions. No Energy at all. I realized that atleast 50% of the dancers were local dancers & not from his troupe in India. Therefore the coordination was missing at several places. In fact some of the kid dancers showed more energy than anyone else in the show.
* Vishal Shekhar - Their singing was just awful & horrible. Agreed they were having problems with the vocal microphones, but they do not have the ability as stage singers to get the audience involved. Vishal was getting besura all the time & its important to know that audiences in foreign countries are well educated in their music and cannot tolerate nonsense. They need to take a cue from Himesh Reshamiya about how to get the audience involved without running around everywhere. Maybe singing in +1 track can be a better option sometimes.
* Priety Zinta - She has never been known as a performer on stage & she really looked out of place. Again no energy in her performance. The audience were taking their own breaks when she was performing.
Amitji, my earliest childhood memories include my parents & Amitabh Bachchan in Naseeb, Laawaris and Shaan. You have been a role-model for me for many years & I am so glad that today you share your day to day activities with us. Your approach to life, your discipline & motivation energize me everyday.
Amitji, please dont get offended or demoralized by my comments mentioned. My sole intention is to make sure everyone’s hard work is appreciated by one & all. Once people have paid $100 for a show ticket, they expect a Las Vegas style show. Your name is more than enough to fill up 12,000 seats in a stadium. However please note that the “extra†special element was missing in the show & so overall one would rate it 3/5 stars.
Amitji, we would really appreciate if you guys could work on the show presentation & other minus points during your breaks. We all learn from our mistakes & a leader like you will get the message across to your team.

Your fan forever,

dear respected amitji,
just wanted to let you know that we were just informed that the vancouver, bc show on aug 17th that we’d bought tickets to go see has been cancelled
needless to say we are extremely extremely disappointed. we were going to travel up to vancouver from seattle to see you all and now unfortunately we’ve missed the chance of a lifetime
my 10 year old son was dying to see abhishek and i’ve not even told him yet. he is going to be so heartbroken.
i can;t belive this is happening. i had bought the tickets the first day when available and we were so looking forward to it. we even had booked hotel room in vancouver to stay after the concert was over.
how can ethnic guru the promoters do this… and that too so late in the game?
again, i apologize sir for bending your ear and completely understand that its not your fault and that its out of your hands, but i just had to let it out…just had to let you know how much this hurts. deep inside i keep on thinking that this is just a bad dream and everything will be fine once I get up … alas it’s not the case.
we do however wish you all nothing but the best and hope that this becomes the show of a lifetime… and hope that we get a chance to see you all again some other time… until then we’ll have to just read up on your blog and the tour blog/diaries online.
we are just heartbroken and going to miss the opportunity of a lifetime…. this sir is truly unforgettable.
