I was introduced today to one of the top brains of the class. P. Sharp, witty, studious, cute, eloquent, funny…in many ways, very likeable guy.
I have been harbouring nice admiration-type feelings for him for months now, but despite him being in all my classes and tutorials, I have never spoken to him. I didn’t want to seem stupid, and thing is, I am horrible at conversing with people I am not already friends with by some weird turn of fate.. I can’t do small talk and don’t want to be over-familiar (you know, my self-preservation thing).
So today I was introduced to him finally, by D. Wow!
And what was the first thing I told him after we had shook hands?
“I am sorry my hand smells like cat.”
Which he found amusing, although he was visibly taken aback. And you know what they say about first impressions, hey?
Actually before he joined D and I as we were walking home, we saw a cat and I couldn’t stop myself from stroking and playing with it, much to D’s disgust. So yeah.
I still can’t stop laughing about it. I have such weird social encounters, when I do have them, that is. Must write a book. Or, I could just blog

[ REPORT ABUSE ]Thanks Mihirji. I promise to try it out
I guess it is about time I start working on my social awkwardness. I’m such a typical nerd. So, hello it is. Will keep you updated.
[ REPORT ABUSE ]Blogging is fine. You have material that’s just right for a blog post. You may be encouraged to know that almost everybody gets cold feet when they’re about to be introduced to somebody they’ve been wanting to meet for a long time but just couldn’t figure out how.
[ REPORT ABUSE ]Allow me to let you in on a little secret. If you so desperately find yourself in a situation that you want to meet somebody and just don’t know anybody around who could introduce you, try a simple “hello”. That single word has opened many intersting doors for me. Honest.Just say “hello” and let the other person decide what to do with it. Chances are , 99% of the time he/she will respond with just as much warmth, cordiality, friendliness as you give out with that ‘hello’ of yours. Try it. And surprise yourself.
