Films today take their promotion and PR strategies very seriously. And Sikandar has not been any closer to an exception.
So as the first of a string of events, I recently got the opportunity to be a part of an event organized by Radio Mirchi called ‘Book Deke Dekho’. The concept circled around the common Mumbaikar donating any number of books to the radio house to be given to a school for the under-privileged children to provide them that opportunity to read as well.
The event took place at the Doorstep school in South Mumbai and I was overwhelmed to find a stack of well over 10000 books to be donated to the school for the children and their teachers.
Just being a part of it felt overwhelming, however small a part. The kids did seem excited and had a genuine smile on their face. Whatever their condition, they have that inner desire to learn and discover new things. Just about anything tapping that desire, in any small way brings them immense happiness.
I was interviewed during the event, during which I realized that books had been an important part of my life as well. Not just my study books, but I had often dipped my head into all sorts of fiction novels and stories as a child. It reduced over the years as I started taking my studies seriously, but I’m looking to get back into reading in full swing again.
But to be a part of providing that same opportunity to these children was a different forte all together.
And it felt great!
